I'm not sure it takes any pressure off. As a developer myself, when I miss my deadline, I feel even more pressure!
It's funny that Space Engineers got planets added to the game before ED did it, and they didn't try to sell it as a new game.
You're not being silly. But. The purpose of a beta is not solely to find bugs, however you define 'bug'.
All software, irrespective at what stage they are at in development, maintenance etc. have bugs. So saying 'beta' software is synonymous with software having bugs is saying all software is in beta whether open beta or closed beta.
And let's not forget that after finding a bug it does not necessarily mean the bug will be 'fixed'.
One thing of note though. I agree with you that FD has achieved the nice feat of getting people to pay for the 'privilege' of being beta testers by waving the carrot of early access under their flaring nostrils.
Some people just can't wait!![]()
The planets in space engineers are ridiculously cartoonish though. They even make NMS seem realistic by comparison.
To me they look like this:
I really hope your NOT someone from Frontier or any of the Developers, telling someone "your over-entitlement is showing" How dare you say that to a customer (joke or not).
I personally expect a beta to have faults, that's why we bought into it, to help.... Not to keep getting shoved back.
Yes it's ALL great and yes we WILL all wait until it is released, BUT, you need to recognise that even with all the best will in the world, it has not been handled very business like (as far as charging and dates etc go).
But I am STILL massively looking forward to it "whenever we get it" and I do appreciate ALL the hard work that's gone into all of Elite Dangerous. But equally, people do need to stop praising the devs for delaying it and realise that's wrong as well.
As I said in an earlier post (which was removed):
I'm a business person and I would NOT get away with advertising a product with a date and charging for that product, then NOT delivering it. But that's maybe just my point of view. Frontier or whoever, could have done more to announce the delay, like putting it on their store nice and clear or even better, on the Launcher.
Also, as a business person, I do realise that things don't always go to plan, especially as we employ human-beings and one thing they're great at, is making mistakes (being polite here!!). The problem or issue isn't the actual problem, it's how you deal with it, that can make you stand out better than other companies. Even a very bad situation can be turned round, especially when you have such a dedicated fan base like the community here. Just don't take them for granted, because what you have with your fans is special and they will tolerate it, but there's still a limit. They should never feel like they've been taken for granted, just like the Devs should never think "Ah, we'll just put it back another few days, they'll not mind" and think it's ok.
It always brings a smile to my face when I see a post like this saying that they are a 'business person'. As if that is some kind of 'badge' to grant them credibility or authority in whatever they espouse. It doesn't take a 'business person' to realise things don't always go to plan.
And 'you' business persons employ human-beings? Yeah, so you lot keep saying. As you lot keep on pointing out us human-beings are great at making mistakes.
And what business are you in? Not software development I'd wager.
You did say you would not get away with ADVERTISING a product didn't you?
Says it all really. Have you ever a made, created or manufactured a product? With your own brains and hands?
Don't take me seriously, I'm a software engineer; what do I know about business?
Monday now, is it? Methinks it's just an excuse for more pizza! ![]()

As a Bzzzzzzzzness person you would realise the poster you refer to does not work for frontier and in fact FD have been very open an honest.
Wipegate returneth! It has already been taken, prior to 1.5.
1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.
(Oops - I think I just made an announcement...!)
Does this mean when horizons is out we have to start all over again? oh please no.
