The Star Citizen Thread v 3.0

For the question the current 2.0 is about 30% of the system we start in, it seems we're be getting Nynx really soon as it's ongoing already on the final passes of lighting/polish, not sure what Nynx is about for certain yet.

About exploration on SC, the exploration mission on 2.0 on the Covalex shipping HUB is really cool ( footage here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJx1H_yLNE8 ), gives us the vibe of what kind of stuff are they aiming to do when you just are around and find this kind of things to explore, you might find a Search & Rescue Mission or just explore around for Lore, is really cool. There's also a quite early "derelicts", this is ship derelicts that will spawn on enemy protected areas that you eventually can turn back on and claim (like the first 2.0 Demo on Gamescon).

As pretty much all MMOs, SC is not "unlimited" so there can be a ecaton of content to explore on 100 systems, but you will eventually run trough it, then the gameplay will change more to the Radar/Scanning more of activities to find delericts, jump-points, and i guess that's more about it.

Reminded me of....

I just educated myself to the point where I understood that and found it mildly amusing.

The ED exploration is a placeholder you know that, I'm NOT going to derail this thread but you should go back and read the design paper on explorations.

I`m sorry its not. Michael said its fine as it is.

What we know on the other hand is that DDF means nothing now...

Anyway... I`m watching this thread since I can remember (and the Katamari on Cig`s site)... The fanb... excited fans on both sides... really good fun watching you guys... lol

Totally on SC topic - the latest launcher 2.4.3 completely refuses to run on my swanky new Razer Blade Pro, as in it will not even attempt to open :(

Interesting emergent gameplay in that video! Too bad the ships still move like they have no weight. :|

After nearly two months my ticket is responded to in such vague terms that I felt pushed over the edge. I've applied for a refund. Whatever SC will be, it won't be the game they are announcing when it comes to its flight sim elements. I'm sure those of you excited for an FPS MMO will be quite happy with what it is they are doing and good luck to you.

Those who had the issue it wouldn't start, if run it as admin didn't work you can re-install it again, if you have the game installed it might uninstall it with the launcher so i believe copy/pastes should work around that.

I have concerns about exploration in SC.

There's supposed to be 100 systems, according to RSI they've got 1,000,000 backers that's 10,000 players per system (if distributed evenly). How much scope for exploration is there likely to be in a game environment that small and overcrowded. The chances of finding a new system or planet are absolutely minute. And adding new handcrafted systems isn't going to keep up with demand from all those budding explorers.

There's just not enough space and stars.

So why have an exploration trailer (titled RSI constellation commercial) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG-82TakEqk

And why sell a dedicated exploration ship (constellation aquila) for $390 when within a few days of (new system) content release there's going to be nothing left to explore.

I don't see how explorers are going to get to explore.

Probably something like, we will attend your ticket shortly, X is not in the office right now as he had some private matters to take care of. Or, we have assigned a new assisted to attend you ticket, we will be back in a few days, thank you for your patience.

However 2 month is a very long time, it took me 5 weeks to get it, and I thought it took forever!

:D there will never be 1million players playing at same time **unless SC gets up to like 10mil players or something...generally the concurrent user base(amount of folks playing a game at any given time) is normally is much much smaller than total player base.

with that said, I do wonder how they plan to do exploration.. my theory is that it will be close to how eve does it since Q-jumping appears to basicly work like warping in EVE....

I don't see how explorers are going to get to explore.

The % of the players online vs the total number of players is always going to be just a small part of it. That and the instancing no matter how many thousands there are on the same map you're not playing with all of them. On MMOs that reward exploration, every one of them with a different design in how you actually get to do it, you always get to explore the whole maps after a while and that's it, nobody has unlimited content to offer on there alone, so... Exploration is not going to be around finding new solar systems or planets, yet about what's inside of those systems.

The game world is not supposed to be as static as most people tend to think in terms of maps.
Now the Exploration is to be one actual profit able activity, is the one that they will do with Procedural Generation: Anomalies & Derelicts.

And i think it will be the 2nd one, the Derelicts that will add the most gameplay and also ability to generate profit even after you run trough all the systems has this will not be static, as you come across relatively small objects floating in space. When in range, these can include lost ships (and/or dead crew), but out past the fringes generally concern small clusters of natural debris (or debris of a destroyed ship), mine-able resources, alien constructs, alien wrecks or even objects that have some form of unconventional value. Something where the Salvage in-game activity will have a deep focus on as well.

So one player with one Constellation aquila will certainly make use of its radar and scanners to follow this type of gameplay with more depth than any of the other ships without that focus. This specific examples if generated per instance not globally should make it nice, may not be so nice call people to your coords and they don't enter the same instance, oh this reminds me of GW2. Anyway this is all i know about exploration outside the static content, that yes you will eventually run trough, on SC.

Well this is interesting. I just got an email from RSI with a Alpha 2.0 PTU invite - except I am not a backer, though I am forum member 25,000 or so (I joined the forum a few weeks before the kickstarter launched).

Are they sending out the invites just based on backer number or is everyone starting to get these now?

Far the weekly development goes, 50K people were invited. They may be sending invites to active accounts now that can't get in. :|

Thanks that makes sense, sounds a bit limited to me though but we'll have to wait and see. I don't like the whole strange new worlds thing not being an in game feature, that's a shame.

The exploration trailer really was wildly off the mark.
