Planets grapihics quality leaves a lot to be desired

I doubt we'll see improvements before release, but the texture quality on the planets is very much below par, at least in beta (maybe I'm wrong, maybe they will up the textures before release) but i doubt it, my guess is the low textures on the planets are to ensure the game runs well on the XBOX unfortunately.

Like i said recently look how good Alpha looked compared to now, there is a reason for the "removal of fidelity" but FD are very much keeping quiet on the subject.

Also, the stations on planets are a copy-paste of the space stations which seems really cheap (check out the enter hanger scene on Europa)

Hangars being the same is only logical. In the world today, there are standards. Think about your car. Ever traffic worthy vehicle must adhere to the same standards as with other vehicles in their class. So, every parking lot looks bout the same. Doing this in a different way in the game would serve no other real purpose than deter criticisms of laziness such as yours.

Thats a pretty weak response, the station looks IDENTICAL, as in its EXACTLY the same down to the chips in the paint work because it is the same. Every multi-story car park i go in to dosent look identical, you go under ground on these stations, these are underground hangers. Some rocky walls showing this would be pretty cool rather than the same space stations recycled.

Its not a huge issue for me, but it does show that assists are being reused.

Time and money and priorities. I'm sure to-do list for Art department is huge (starting with textures and ending with new landbased structures and ships).

I'm sure it will improve. When they first put Outposts in they also did rough copy-paste and gradually improved their landing pad area to make it (atleast little) different from big Stations. I'm sure it is same for land base structures. Work in progress.

Many rocks yes, but still bland and only variations of brown. I'ts not an atmosphereless planet by the way.

Sorry but if the video does not represent anything near the quality of the actual game play it should not have been shown. What worries me is they did show, the its only a beta excuse does not wash. People were using the its only a beta when we were playing beta/gamma, the game then released and there huge leaps in content and quality did not emerge.

FD gave us the video and while I think quality may improve once horizons is released I also think it isn't going to improve as much as you think.

What broke immersion for me was your ship going into "glide" mode, the planet has no atmosphere, gliding is not an option.

Yes, yes. I see I gave a bad example. Every piece of industrial machinery though, be it cranes, elevators, rail cars for cargo containers etc are almost exactly the same in the real world. If you went to a harbour or a loading station in a factory, you have pretty much seen it all. If only fans of EuroTruck Simulator games had seen this complaint.

For the uninitiated, they all look more or less like this wherever you go in the world.

i think the graphics look great! its a Beta... there are bound to be bugs. Beta means bugs are implied. I'm just happy we have a game like this!
 
Guys guys guys... Let's stop fooling ourselves. OP is right. There are so many things in this game from mildly unsatisfactory to outright horrendous, I prepared the following template. Fill in as you see fit.

This rant is important to me. There are some things in this game, which I payed for out of my hard earned fortune, that doesn't live up to my expectations. As an example <insert your pet peeve about the game here> is simply unacceptable in a game made in 2015. Also <feature unique to ED> is a hundred times worse than it's version in <pretty unrelated game in another genre>.

How can FD go out and advertise this piece of 'software' as worthy of 50 euros is beyond me. FD, be ashamed of yourself.

Why there is no a PC version and a XB1 version separated at the level of the code of graphs ?

There are. Otherwise XBox would be getting everything at the same time with the PC releases.

The reason they have to turn off some graphics features is actually because of the statistics they get from their hardware surveys.

Apparently (otherwise it doesn't make sense) a considerable portion of the playerbase run the game on something other than a cutting edge gaming rig. It explains why they waited so long to go 64bit only without dx10 support. This is in no way an XBox issue. They have to have seen something in their statistics that made them go 'this and this and this feature of our shaders, this piece of shadow rendering and this lighting thingy breaks the game for this much people' for them to disable graphics features like they did.

No other explanation makes sense.
 
A few months ago following comments on here about the subject of nerfing PC graphics for XBox I spoke to 2 people in the industry, one a graphics programmer on several AAA games. I was told it's absolutely nonsense.

Try googling 'Europa surface'. The place is astonishing.

Apart from the artists impressions of the surface the actual images we have look rather similar to what I saw in the video. It's all well and good to moan and groan about how it looks but I'm afraid in this case it's pointless without a frame of reference to start from.

NASA and ESA are planning to land on Europa but all we have now are the scribbleings of a few mad scientists.
