The Star Citizen Thread v 3.0

The PTU 2.0 update has more content in it than any of the previous updates. It has quite wide ranging changes and an iteration on the flight model, which wasn't exactly the main focus of the build. So while you may have spent hours in AC, you are being very hypocritical in asking for a refund after spending so much time in game already, then not even testing the 2.0 patch which shows the beginning of the Persistent Universe.
While I understand what you are trying to say, I respectfully disagree. Over the course of the last year and a half there are other backers and testers whose experience and feedback I have come to trust. Whether we have agreed or disagreed on the particulars of any issue we developed a mutual respect for one another's opinions and ability to reflect on available shared content. Some of them are in the PTU 2.0 now. Between their feedback and available YouTube footage I am able to reflect on content and come to a reasonable conclusion. If I hadn't lost so much trust over the years I would gladly download and continue testing myself, but at this point the incentive and cost (mostly time and bandwidth) does not justify my giving them another chance. This is a personal decision and I would not cast judgement on others for taking a different position. Calling me closed minded for having come to a decision to stop giving them the benefit of the doubt is off putting and unfair of you. I hope you can understand that.

Seems like balanced reasoning to me. If they aren't heading in the direction for you and you feel disappointed by previous releases then aye..vote with the feet! I'm similar myself where wavering on refund time but I'm going to wait for 2.0 to drop for the masses where hopefully some more work will have been applied. If 2.0 isn't feeling what id come to hope at that point then I'm off also. Then buy into the game at some later point in the future.

Well, I eventually let it finish downloading whilst I was out. So 19 hours after starting the download I launched the game, and after about 5 minutes with the "Loading Game" screen trying to get into the Universe, it just immediately crashes to desktop, and does this every time (if it ever manages to get past the "All Instances Full" bit).

Not particularly impressive TBH.

So the CIG design choice of make the Mobiglass visible to all players surrounding a player might raise... uhhh... Privacy Concerns, as this image can illustrate: http://i.imgur.com/UnluRS9.jpg
:D

Welcome to PTU! As said it's the known issues to be hotfixed, it's the GIM putting you on instances already full (the crash to desktop on loading), and specially telling you all of them are full when there's empty instances. Get to one stable instance is the most complicated thing attm. If you're not up to deal with the breaking issues currently, it's mostly about let it be and wait for the next patch said to be on Monday.

I shall post this again here. Those who are not willing to test and help with the progression of SC Alpha 2.0 should wait for the live version. This build is for testing purposes only.

Dude, most of us here are experience Elite: Dangerous alpha testers. Not only that, I'm a software developer by trade, so I know all about testing and broken software.

All that being said, unless you can actually get into the game, then there's not a lot of testing you can actually do.

And who are you to say that ?
What if I got an invite, wanted to try it out, write my impression here, but not help with progression of Alpha 2.0 ?
If it sucks, that's exactly what's gonna happen.
Either way, people will leave impressions whether you liked it or not.

If the impressions are going to be "it sucks" because it has breaking issues on crashes, or server problems, then that's a complete fail over the whole point of the PTU invites.
It's like the people doing negative reviews on Steam Early Access Alpha/Betas because they have crash, bug or optimization issues.

Still, it's their liberty to do so and we all know they will do so, no matter what.
After all, that's why it's called public test build.

EDIT:
Maybe I should clear it out that by "it sucks", I personally mean it sucks the way it plays, not related to crashes and bugs.

That isnt any more helpful than people coming here and understandably wanting to vent about the thing not even letting folk into the test environment (let's not call it a game just yet). This issue with the GIM putting folk into full instances "seems" like a easy fix to me? ED had similar problems during the alpha phases on and off which got sorted between patches.

The PTU is an internal testing environment. It's not meant for Public consumption. Sadly most people who go in to 2.0 expecting to play the game for hours will be disappointed. The main purpose of the PTU is to test and help Alpha 2.0 with bug reports. That many of SC's backers are doing.

So, PTU (Public Test Universe) is not meant for public testing ?
Maybe they should then rename it to PTU. Private Test Universe, and hide the changelog somewhere in the soon-to-be-buried ToS, between the removal of refund policy and else.

It's meant to be tested but not to be consumed as a live version. The TOS of games and companies changed. People should get used to that. Refund is not a must they do it out of kindness.

I guess private means "by invitation only" if Max said they sent out 50,000 invites this week. I'm fairly sure that is more than ED had for Beta 1.4, let alone Alpha testing?

This things with the GIM are under works and it's on the known issues once you login. The hard to track usually server-side stuff is the problems that trigger the server crash causing the instance to RIP, that with them on US on thanksgiving break, is a have to to wait for it as Monday will bring more patches. It's really a controlled test environment, they limit things on propose to see how they react under pressure, they have to handle it on the PTU otherwise they won't handle it on Live. Nothing we can do but wait.

Yeah they should rename PTU to PTU, lel, but currently PTU is not Public from the start you need to be invited to access it, whatever one can call it, the Test remains there. ;)

In fairness I think that people at least expect to get in. Plenty of alpha testers here and they understand the process.

If the thing is so unstable that people can't get in then expanding this alpha test to even more backers is ill advised at best and destructive to the games perception.

This isn't the RSI forum alternate viewpoints and opinions are allowed.

My opinion is that people should get refunds, the games far too broken considering it's been in development since October 2011.

What's that got to do with people commenting on it ?
Do they need to sink in 50hrs of testing and do a written elaborate on it, to be eligible to write their opinion on the forums ?
