Some thoughts...

Thargoid ships are biomechanical.

UAs appear to be biomechanical. What are the blue particles they emit. Viral agents, spores, or just a nice graphical effect?

We almost wiped out the Thargoids with a virus.

Human technology is now being affected by a "virus" shortly after UAs start appearing. Galnet used that particular term accidentally on purpose. There was a specific reason they used the term "virus", instead of leaving the cause as something vague.

There are recon probes in our space scanning, primarily, military capable ships and now taking out habitats by unknown means.

Prelude to war?

As suspected initially - the mass sale of UAs appears to be playing into somebody's hands. Yes, FD's - but I fear somebody else.

Remember: the price went up, then more and more people started selling them (yes, I know: some people already were, but since the reports of the price increase it's gone nuts). Now it's darn well obvious that act causes station malfunctions and shutdowns - so, logically, whoever caused the price increase knew what would happen. It works on two levels - FD/MB wanted us to sell them, and increased demand for a weird and wonderful illegal item is plausible purely in lore; but there could be a deeper conspiracy going on.

Doesn't have to be, but there could be.

Few thoughts:

1) The UA is pointing to Merope just because it's there that we will find the "cure" to the stations damage: a specific unknown material, a DEVICE, whatever. By pointing to Merope, it is not explicitly "helping" us: it just points there because of some unknown reason. But as a collateral effect, it's there that we will find the answer.
I personally don't think that we can find it in beta already. We'll have to wait.

Or:

2) There's a particular commodity or Rare item, that counters the corrosive effects of the UAs. Question to the CMDRs that performed the huge rares sell to Bonds Hub: did you notice some change in the 30 seconds delay between two modules damage? It could even be just few seconds: I mean, one ton of that commodity will delay the damage by, let's say, 2 seconds; more tonnes and the delay will be more.
When I performed my huge commodities test, back in 1.3, I was very careful to the damage delay: it didn't change. But who knows, perhaps after 1.4 things have changed?

I did do some timing sat on the dock bays. Sorry no change always 30sec, did this when we did the tests with you, when we found the T7 wasn't being scanned...

That's what I think, to. And I think they point to Merope because I believe that's going to be their staging area.

I no longer consider these thoughts a theory, but treat them as fact. I don’t think there is a solution currently inthe game. It is the start of the Thargoid invasion and people need to be intrigued and frightend about what is going on. We will see a lot more over the coming season until TPTB release the Thargoids on us. I am pretty sure, that we won’t find a real solution until in 1 or 2 years we will have dealt with the invaders according to FDevs plans.

Edit... tried to quote Kicks and my PC thew a wobbly. I agree with Kicks...it's a staging area!

Merope and possibly Obsidian Orbital (by way of provocation), is going to be at the centre of all of this.

Remember Z'Ha'Dum from Babylon5? Everything stemmed from that one system.

I don't think the Thargoids are at Merope, as yet, but they will be. I think Merope performs that same function here as Z'Ha'Dum did for the Shadows. It's their point of entry into our galaxy.

When Horizons goes live, I am gearing myself for Merope in the long haul. As much as I can, I am going to patrol Merope until either I lose my mind, or they come.

But why?

Why would the Thargoids attack us? They are not interested in us. They think we are weird and useless.

Why would the Thargoids send something as primitive as the UA? Why warn us if the intend to attack? They could just show up and demand surrender. We would have to accept.

The UA has a short range ship scanner 1km. It has a decent discovery scanner, but it's only able to pick out the closest celestial body.
They are found in a region outside human space.
It's corrosive and a strong signal source. It's not strange that it damages stuff, but it does not seem intended to me.

Unless the UA evolves greatly, it's not capable of doing any real harm.

That's exactly what I am doing in my battle python, I will be scouring for evidence of Thargoid tech on Merope and any other nearby systems, especially near Obsidian Orbital. Hopefully that tech will be a warship in space and not just some mangled wires on the planet surface.

After what they did to my ma and pa in '84, it's clobberin' time! :D

Make sure to add KICKS next time you play. We might need to wing up :)

MB stated that how alien's would appear in E: D depended on how we initially treated them. So maybe, the aliens (Thargoids) are testing to ground to see how stupid we really are this time round.

Merope Star.jpg

Sorry if we're not talking about Horizons in this thread, but a very weird thing happened in 2.0 in Merope system map.

Insert your image within a [ spoiler ] tag please.

According to me, Merope will be exactly like Achenar, Alioth or Sol. It's gonna be the capital city, hence all the UAs pointing at it. As others have theorized before, the shell marks the protective bubble for the soon-to-be-discovered new alien species. That's why I think the next stage in the UA behaviour - as stated in that post - will be weaponization. It will defend the bubble and stand its ground. We may even get interdicted by them!

I don't think the Thargoids will be surprised either way. There is a limit to how many first encounters you can have with the same species.
They know very well that a lot of humans will shoot at the first sighting of them.

Other species are looming in the dark. We will probably be begging the Thargiods for help.

Might well be that we will be the ones asking the Thargoids for help... Especially if they are cats, cute, or [otherwise alluring] and we find ourselves fatally attracted...

That's cool, but as you are saying it's your choice. You are stating that you have chosen to believe a theory without sufficient evidence because you like that theory, for whatever reasons.

Not trying to antagonise but just to make that clear :). As some people may read your statement and think that you are basing it on some indisputable proof, perhaps posted elsewhere in the thread.
