[Video] Combat in a Cobra

Sam (in my best Ferris Bueller voice):
Try out the Cobra Mk III with Gimbaled Pulse Lasers and Gimbaled guns with a couple of point defense if you have the means. I heartily recommend getting you one. You will giggle like a school girl firing all four at once.

Oh, and the Military Composite Hull is icing on the cake.
Now, if I could only learn how to fly.
:D

Also I've seen that loadout swapped around a little Stu.

So you have a Class 1 and Class 3 for both. Lasers on one side, cannons on the other :)

I had pulse and burst but like Sam said they overheat in nothing flat.
This build the cannons don't suck the heat and I have both cannons on secondary with pulse lasers on primary. When all 4 are firing it's magic.
You have to try it to really appreciate it. Gimbaled all the way, baby!!!

Is there any difference in the missile loadout you can put in the different size hardpoints? The Sidewinder carries six / clip, doesn't it? What about using a siz 4 hardpoint on the Cobra for missiles?

I love the build with two gimballed beam lasers, but I'm wondering what to put in the lower mounts. How useful / important are missiles? Can missiles be shot down with gimballed weapons? Twin gimballed beams on top and twin multi-cannons in the smaller mounts sounds lovely, but that means going entirely without missiles. Man, I wish I could afford to join you guys in testing this...

How about non-gimballed twin rail guns at the bottom, for shooting at larger, slower targets like an Anaconda? That would be my first idea, something for tracking and hitting fast moving targets, and a second weapon group with something that packs as much punch as possible for slower targets.

I forgot about the damned railguns. Something that hits that hard shouldn't be hitscan speed! Argh

Nice, loving the half lunar eclipse in the back ground 2.

I like that they havent gone overboard with lens flare and blinding over the top lighting that seems to be all the rage with devs these days.. :)

But why does it say 'Beam laser Malfunction', are they unreliable, and how do they still work anyway :)

Is there no military lasers?

Holy crap, this is some mouth watering videos guys. Ishmat, great flying!

Looking forward to July-August, when I get Oculus Rift DK2, and maybe playing the beta of this.. :D

I think that happens when they have received enough damage. I'm not sure if it is a certain percentage, or an amount of damage over a period of time.

Although I don't have beam lasers with my load-out, malfunctions to my plulse laser occured from taking damage. The repair module can repair percentage but I still had occasional malfunction so either it's a bug or certain damage is only repairable at the station.

The thing I get from watching these videos is that combat seems too easy. In Frontier Elite 2 the combat was flipping frenetic seat of your pants scary, I am not getting that sort of sense so far watching the combat in ED. Certainly the AI (or are they other players) dont seem to be doing anything very fancy about losing their tail in the dogfight when you get behind them. But I suppose though maybe when missiles, ECM, mines and chaff etc are introduced there will be more options for some decent combat tactics.

I would hope also that some of the ships will be designed along rthe lines of WW1 fighter combat for example - where you mgiht have some super fast ships with grerat acceleration but little manoeuverability that can employ boom and zoom to very good effect, whereas other might be better in the climb or faster at banking turns due to better manouevering thrusters in certain places. Some might be better with powerful weapons that can saturate an enemies shields over a short period but need to get a quick kill (like a cheetah). Still others might have very good rear shields but less powerful side ones that might dictate certain attack moves against them (and defensive moves), and maybe others might have very good rear facing turrets where frontal assaults might be safer - like WW2 Battle of Britain pilots used to implement against the German bomber formations.

It would be nice to see some of these sorts of intricacies in combat eventually.

If somebody could do a video showing what it's like outfitting the cobra with four maximum size multicannons I'd be very happy. The burst damage must be pretty amazing if you can keep all four guns on target.

Might be easier said than done, especially with the lower hardpoints having such wide separation. Probably better to just fit four gimballed cannons, since it's no longer a taboo combination.

@Ishmat

I've been watching more of your videos, and I really like what I see. What is your controller setup, and what do you use to look around the cockpit and track targets visually as you do?

Nice, I noticed everyone has that weird crab launch style

There is about a half second delay before your side thrusters adjust for the rotation of the station on launch, resulting in the right lurch. Now, with inertia and all the ship should go up at the same speed as the station rotation, so hopefully it's not intended and will be fixed.

The best way to leave the pad is to up thrust as the ship is freed for take-off.
