Patch Notes Update Horizons 2.0 beta change log #5 incoming...

  • Fix a confirmed cause of players loading into the game up to a kilometer up or down from where they saved
This fixes spawning underground then.

  • Attacking settlement generators now counts as Assault, and triggers settlement aggro
  • Scanning private data links now counts as Major Trespass (up from minor, so now a bounty instead of a fine), and triggers settlement aggro
Any chance of a super-aggressive class of settlements that will shoot you as soon as they IFF you?

  • Updated additional POIs to be visible from the ship and adjusting their radar radius size
Made some of the smaller POIs only visible in the buggy
This sounds like swings and roundabouts - but I hope that any wreckage larger than a cargo canister will remain visible from flight.
  • Don’t render no fly zones on the scanner if you’re in the SRV
Wait what? No fly zones? Where?

  • Fixed longitude and latitude using the wrong time to establish location
So this fixes the locating yourself bugs seen during the first Beta CG?

  • Fade POIs from the radar down based on altitude so that they're at full opacity at 2.25km altitude and transparent at 2.00km
What does this mean - POI circles are only visible in the radar scanner when you're within a 250m altitude band, or are they replaced on the radar with blips below 2.00km altitude?

  • Fixed cargo items in the cargo merge panel not using loc strings

  • Prevent the attempted parsing of $; on data links when scanned info is empty string
Great - another two of my pet bugs fixed.

Agreed - human artefacts, even down to the size of a SRV wreck, should be visible from low level flight. Flying Search and Rescue missions in my Eagle, looking out of the cockpit side windows for anything man-made amongst the sand and stone, pushes my buttons of RAF biplanes flying above the Egyptian deserts in WWII or snow speeders looking for Luke on Hoth.

It applies to outcrops and similar objects. Wrecks are still visible from the ship.

I hope POIs will scale with system population as well as distance to Sol. A small system with 500 people shouldn't have crash sites everywhere.

Looking good for launch otherwise. :)

Unless that's the reason they only have 500 people left :D I do agree though.

I can see the Galnet article now:

STELLAR DISASTER STRIKES AIR RALLY

The 207th Annual Kitty Hawk Rally ended in disaster today when an undetected solar flare crippled the entire field as they circumnavigated the planetoid. The Rally, where every able-bodied adult of this famously intrepid colony attempts to race around the world in home-made flying machines, saw the main group just about to reach the opposite pole from the settlement when a Class X flare from the system's sun struck. Due to Kitty Hawk's lack of atmosphere and weak magnetic field, the tiny unshielded racers were swatted from the skies like flies. Only children, the elderly and infirm are left at the base. Nearby Commanders are requested to aid in a Search And Rescue operation to recover as many of the surviving aeronauts from the sands as possible!

Yeah because your tone was light and airy :D I'm not trying to start an argument, my point I was trying to make was that there are other small things you can find (the SRV cab for example) that would be incredibly hard to spot from your ship unless you're hovering meters above the surface.
Ah my apologizes for the misunderstanding then.

Ok outcrops only being visible from within the SRV is something I can live with. Just... please, don't hide other things from the ship. If you don't want the ship to interact with something on the ground for balance reasons, add a ship deterring factor like an anti-ship skimmer or something like that.

Thank you ^^

Hi Michael, Zac,

By "visible" I hope you mean in scanners, right?

Or do you really mean that from a ship we will never see them physically no matter how close we are unless we deploy the buggy?

I thought you had precisely corrected that issue in beta 4, no?

As it only goes for outcrops, I think the difference is purely academic. You're not going to see these anyway until you're WAY close to the ground.

No - the smallest like outcrops won't be visible from the ship at all, you have to be in the SRV to find them.

Wow, another update! Thanks, FDev :)

I'm concerned about some remaining control issues, though - Will the throttle and Headlook/UI Focus button mapping concerns I mentioned in this thread get fixed at some point?

Also, it would be nice if FD considered bumping up the boost speed on the Cobra IV, even if just a little. I know you guys are concerned about balance issues, but as it stands the boost speed in particular is a deal-breaker for a great many folks (as seen in the poll in this thread here). Many, many good arguments have been made for at least some slight tweaking on the MK IV's stats, and I haven't seen very many at all arguing the opposite. I hope FD will at least seriously consider taking another pass on this latest iteration of such an iconic ship :)

Anyways, don't mean to sound ungrateful - Thanks again for the update!
