No NPC around planets anytime soon :/

I guess I will be out exploring for quite some time then.

Seriously, this is just quite bad TBH, really hope they'll go full tilt to fix it as fast as possible, i.e. during Q1.

it's not broken, is how they are deploying it for season one, so a 'fix' is not goign to happen in season one, unless they change plans based on feedback, which is unlikely.

So no NPC around planets till one full year (ie. 2017). Geez, that quite nuts.

Well, I suppose that's their game, after all ;)

I really hoped we could hire crewmates, with the ai controlling the ship to a basic level but with the ability to hunt out more skilled crew, complete with salaries (unless they were slaves) as well as chances for them to die etc.

also would have added life to our ships once we get real avatars.. my python and clipper looks like the Mary Celeste at the moment

Frontier and 1st enc both had ships crew.

For the life of me I can't understand the attitude towards single players where Elite is concerned. First there was 'Wings' without AI wingmen (despite the fact they exist in the training missions) and now no NPC crew. Why? How does its absence benefit the multiplayer? I choose to play single player, simply because getting a team together is quite difficult for a length of time - so the addition of NPC crew to fill the gaps would have been ace.

Please Frontier, stop cutting out AI content!

Just looking back last year, I can't even imagine what tweaks and extensions to NPC presence, communications and interaction could have done to transform the existing V1.x game already.
Too bad they're not capitalizing on that potential (yet).

Oh well, they have a 10 year plan and we just finished the 1st. There's still hope for getting all that and filling the void with credible life.

I'd love to see NPCs getting a far bigger role and see Players one day having to respect them just like they would have any other Player.

Disappointing, again. Seems they've basically given up on AI - no NPC Wingmen, no NPC SRVs, no NPC copilots.

Concur. I rarely fly in a wing but would if their was NPC's to wing with. Same with multicrew, it's another feature I am unlikely to use.

The lack of NPC fighting on planets as well.... very disappointing. Not often I am disappointed by their announcements but, I was really looking forward to dogfighting on and around the surface - if not for the geometry just for the views.

Would you actually bother? Playing one sub role in a ship rather than all of them at once? I can't really see the point except for a beer fuelled laugh once every 6 months or so.

Yes, because I have several friends who like the idea of the game, and enjoy playing it, but find managing everything at once overwhelming. This will allow me to get them back in the game and help them learn it one step at a time.

I know one guy who doesn't want to do anything but drive an SRV. I'm going to bring him along on some base raids after I get done with my deep space exploration and see how that goes. Hopefully by that time attacking bases will actually be interesting. If nothing else I'll just drop him off on a planet to play while I go buzz around in a CZ or something.

How? When I'm in a federal corvette what good are two condors going to do? Those things die in 2 seconds from anything.

Well you could possibly have up to four flying at once IIRC, with more in your ship if its big enough to carry them. It was suggested they will be disaposable and possibly flown by neural network - and yes they are made of glass, but the challenge appeared to be that they can do damage if not taken down.

Really? Overwhelming? Like what?! There's not an awful lot to it and you don't even need to use a lot of the mechanics if you don't want to - I hope your friends aren't pilots or doctors or anything serious! ;)

I get the awful feeling that they are trying to force us into playing multiplayer.

no npc crew, no npc ships combat on surface.. seems like they want to nudge us to playing multiplayer which I'm sure is awesome for some people.

However some of us love playing the lone wolf and we are getting less love all the time and even cut out of things. My feeling of excitement for Horizons just dimmed about 40%.

"If you don't want to" is the key phrase. Most gamers aren't satisfied with being ignorant of mechanics, and ED doesn't provide a lot of feedback for many of the things we do, such as controlling pips, throttle, thrusters, etc.... Being required to do it all at once, and then not getting any direct response as to whether what you did was effective, or even affected anything at all, when you are also being required to immediately shift your attention somewhere else, is frustrating for a lot of people. If they don't feel they are making progress in learning the game, they're not going to bother, because it just feels like a waste of time.

Everyone encounters this with different varieties of games. RTS is my particular bugbear. Unless you can convince me that you enjoy all games and their mechanics equally, in which case I want to see screenshots of your Train Simulator Hours Played.

Have to agree here. Without love to NPC's and 'solo' players I doubt I will buy into any future seasons. I play in Open primarily but very rarely with anyone else, there is rarely anyone else in my specific area and planning to meet with people is too much of a commitment for my liking. I've winged two or three times since it was released and although it was great fun it's a feature that has largely gone unused for me. Multicrew is going to get even less attention by the sounds of it.

Very disappointed.

The last days I played with version 1.4 in RES, the NPC ships crashed very often into the asteroids.

It certainly does happen, but considering avoidance of thousands of rocks in a planetary ring is considerably harder than avoidance of a "bumpy plane" on a planet's surface, they do ok. They probably don't crash into rocks much more than I do myself!

Actually, running into asteroids makes them seem more human. :p
It's when they come to a complete stop and just spinning around I get thrown out of immersion.

So many good posts here, it's sad I can't rep you all again and again.

Hah, very much so. Seeing them 'panic' when attacked and faceplant into a massive rock is an immersion *maker* to me. But spinning around and around is very.. meh. Maybe it just needs a soundtrack:

"I'm spinning aroundMove out of my way
I know you're shootin' me 'cuz you like it like this"
