News Elite Dangerous: Horizons on Steam

Not resolved yet - no button for me :(

Grrr can't even raise a ticket to report the problem. Submit a ticket - but it doesn't actually submit just goes back to main support page, click on tickets and it's in bloody draft!

Since I know for sure I need the ED Horizons update, I'll prioritize that for now and pause the other download.

I had issues downloading the ED 64-bit client (maybe they still have to add it), so I just hit "UPGRADE" on the 32-bit version and I had both ED 32-bit and ED:H 64-bit playable after download.

I have the redeem button (bought horizins via steam yesterday)
I came tyo install it today. steam copied the key to clip board and i went through the process of redeeming the game to be told:

Sorry, the access key you entered is not valid.

this needs to be fixed..

Edit:

ok so to fix this.. i had to:
go to : https://www.frontierstore.net/customer/account/
register a billing address.
then go to 3rd party access
log in through steam. (this added my original elite dangerous)
then go to redeem product key
enter the horizons key manually.
and Finally it added horizons to my account..

Also the redeem button is only on the elite dangerous horizons launcher. it appears as a sperate game in my steam account.

Hope this helps others.

I was finally able to redeem my key, now I have Elite Dangerous: Horizons on Steam - yay!

But there is something I don't understand. Why two different games, and not a DLC? I assume I should install and play Elite Dangerous: Horizons, but why isn't it just an expansion for Elite: Dangerous. What about my friends who only have Elite: Dangerous - can I still play with them, or what? I understand that they cannot land on planets, but just regularly play? Furthermore, it looks like both the base game and Horizons is updating - which mean I have to download the whole stuff twice from Steam. It really seems odd.

This is way too confusing, I think Frontier should have made some clear statements about this matter.

You only need to download horizon.
You can still play with you're friends, but if you try to land on a planet, they will get kicked from you're squad if they don't own horizon.

Okay, thanks. I guess you mean get kicked out of the wing, but I guess that is reasonable.

Still very confused why they would register it as a separate game, and not just an expansion.

But why does Frontier is making a completely separate game in Steam ? I certainly don't want to lose my precious game hours (and also waste a great amount of time redownloading the game) So, eh ?? Dafuk, may I say.

Yeah I'm narked off at this as well, I'm not sure why but I really like knowing how much I've played my games and now my hours in Elite on Steam won't carry over to Horizons...PITA! Mind you, if FD would just put the hours played stat into the game anyway I'd drop the steam version!!

+1 I just want the time played stat back in the stats screen, like it was in Alpha.

My guess would be money. If you have a Steam key for Elite Dangerous then Steam gets a cut of all your future purchases, including from the fontier store from what I've read. Maybe by making Horizons a stand alone game FD doesn't have to give Steam a cut of its presales.

Steam will still take around 30% from the sales of the game

Just got this on Steam, it's down loading now and I'm very happy. Paid £29.99 due to having Elite Dangerous already, which I've actually only played for about 5 minutes. Hoping will find time to get into this but mainly got Elite to support 'Frontier' and to say thanks for all preceding Elites I've enjoyed over the years.
The 5 minutes were amazing, btw.:D

My Frontier store account is linked with my Steam Account and I get the Horizons button, but when I click it the page just flashes. :/

Finally just got my key... so I add it to Steam, and the penny finally drops... I'm going to have TWO installations of Elite Dangerous? That's not, er, not quite what I expected?!
