UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Great post. Thanks. I've noticed the POIs seem to have a different sound than the rocks as well. I'm not sure how common that knowledge is.

For Beta players, very common. I'd post everything I know, but despite Beta being out, I still feel it's spoiler territory. So... spoiler tags ahoy

Last I checked, there were the following signals (apologies for the lack of screenshots, quick post before work, so also not 100% accurate)
- Geiger counter-like noise, 2 bars near bottom = Outcrop, 4 bars near bottom = Bronze Chromite
- Metallic "static", 1 bar near bottom = Mesoderite (or whatever it's called), 2 bars near bottom = outcrop/metallic meteorite
- 'Whistling' noise + bars =~ 2/3rd height: Cargo/Mining pods
- 'Radio Static', bars near top of scanner: Data access point (usually in a guarded compound/crashed nav beacon)
- <can't remember the noise or bars, but you can check next time you jump in an SRV>, ship (inc. your own) / shipwreck.
- Cant remember the signal, but structures have a unique one too

On an aside, considering this post (which i never realised was a thing), and that other posts have already been Galnetted since my post, I'm already not holding my breath on my Galnet article amounting to anything at all, having danced this dance a few times now. If it's a choice between running around for a week saying "Take 17m credits off me for an unacknowledged occurrence" and actually playing Horizons, fighting for my home system and doing Science!™ I'll stick with the latter.

Sorry, bit more cynical than I expected, time to get my coffee...

I had a quick look around Merope 1 D this evening (not much time to play today) but I need more practice tracking the source of the blue circles down on the ground. I found only one, which turned out to be some wreckage with a pair of skimmers and a canister of gold marked legal salvage. I'm a terrible shot and need to rework my controls for the turret: I had to run with 38% health left. There are plenty of good materials on this world and outcrops are especially useful: I got both sulphur and phosphorous from one (enough for a basic SRV fuel refill). I also found a couple of units of vanadium and germanium, one or two of manganese, and plenty of iron, nickel and carbon.
There were a couple of commanders with hardpoints out in the system but not close to Merope 1 when I was there (one looked to be near Merope 2).

Put the trailer into premiere to get a better look at the barnacle shot. Unfortunately compression gives us a lot of artifacts (NO PUN INTENDED) so this is the best I can get for now.

Based on what I see and my opinion (most of which has already been stated by others) :
- Soil color is very light / sandy brown
- Same illuminated "honeycomb" as the UA's on the structure
- Structure has a "foam" look - meta-alloy construction?
- Doesn't look to be located inside of a canyon
- Background seems to be blue in hue. Color graded the clip to bring white-balance back to something somewhat balanced. Again, compression limits us a ton on what we can pull out of the shadows - total loss of detail in most of it. Clip just before this shows illumination from a red nebula, this one either has no illumination, or possibly a blue nebula? You can also tell there's rolling hills in the background, and no stars visible. Could this be out in the dark area CMDR's were attempting to reach earlier in the year? With the new FSD injections, crossing that void may not be as difficult as before.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that in my opinion, wherever this object is, it's wayyyy out there. Also going to state that I think this object is massive, and we are potentially only seeing one "foot" of the structure. I'm gonna guess that whatever the structure is, I think we *could* be able to spot it from orbital cruise

Also, gonna agree that this is 100% not in Merope. But what is still so special about Merope that the UA's all point there? WE MUST GO DEEPER!

*edit* here's a still of the crashed t9 for good measure.

Noticed it looks like a ship bone-yard out there. The structure on the right looks like a wing-tip of a federal drop/assault/gun ship? Structure on the left foreground looks like a piece of a hull, and the object in the back looks like another downed ship.

Well done with the editing there.

The Green "things" by the pyramid/zigurrat/thargoid construct whatever with the green lights almost look like petrified trees mixed with corn (maize) plants. Obviously that's not the case because we're in airless worlds..... unless of course we're looking for a planet that used to have an atmosphere and now doesn't.

Somebody get me a new roll of Reynolds there are hats to be made!

I was scouting Merope 3B,
i found several POI from ship, when i had a hatch-malfunction.
The UA dropped to the ground and was still intact.
My Gunship is a real Guppy, as i picked up the UA and several tons of gold by ship!

YES! Take that SRV!

Any word on d-scanners? Are they still needed to identify the name of a planet?
I have none, but was able to resolve Merope 3B from unknown to Merope 3B.

Has anyone attempted to drop into a Salvageable Wreckage site since Horizons/1.5 released? I've been having issues with the game crashing on me when I do that, and so far I haven't had that issue with any other signal source.

You don't need the surface scanner to get the name of the body.

I meant i don't even have any sort of discovery scanner fitted.
In earlier iterations i required a discovery scanner to find, and name planets and the surface scanner for extra info.
No foghorn on my warship.

Just turned off my d-scanner and jumped to an unknown system to me, was able to scan once i got within 2.7-ish LS away. Was really hoping I'd have no scan happen so we could find out the UA can scan for you. Anything happen to show up on the planet map for you by chance?

i did a bit of looking around on Maia A7, it's a 1.96G world:

the thrusters on the buggy are angled more to the ground than in the trailer.

Maia A7 thruster position:

trailer thruster position:

so we're looking at a 1.2-1.3 G world i guess... not exact science but :)
Just a thought, and I can't check for a few hours now but: will the SRV thruster position change when enabling or disabling "drive assist"?

Negatory, i didn't scout for too long though.
Will give it another shot tomorrow.

So you can confirm that without UA and with discovery scanners deactivated
you can resolve a planet's name.
Hmm, maybe let us try to completely remove the d-scanner and have no UA fitted.
Might be a bug, having the d-scanner only be required to be present.

What i can tell you, is that the scan of the planet sounded a ot like the older discovery scanner sound, mixed with some UA snarls.
I will try to set up shadowplay for tomorrow and go test out wreckages with the UA deployed aswell.

Has anyone tried triggering technical malfunctions at planet side black markets yet. Someething i might try between HIP 18987 (pickup point) and ngalia ( planet side black market cant remmeber which one but there is one on planet 1)

Unsure on that, was thinking to put the UA into the Ant-Hill later on however.
Might cause some technical issues there:)

Sidenote i didn't check:
Where is Jaque?
Still in the same old spot?
If he is still there and UAs always point to the sun of merope (tested dropping from OC close to Merope 3B, UA dropped and realigned with sun),
is this a clue, something on the line from Jaque to Merope?

I've been reading a lot of this stuff for a long time (Since a day before the Horizons patch), and after the patch I noticed my FSD would click quite a lot after "spooling down" from a system jump. I was talking to a friend about it but I wasn't able to record the audio, although that could be because I was flying in my Vulture at the time over the Cobra I was in once the patch went live.

Whether it has any relevance to this, I have no clue, but it certainly was creepy after reading about a bunch of mantis men that shoot you only to hear something that sounded like a giant insect behind my chair.

There is only so much you can describe with words, but I'll give it a shot. The sound was chittery or clicklike in nature. If you've given Fallout 4 a shot it was similar to the "endoskeleton noises" all the insects and mirelurks made (or like a pitch shifted version of the little chitters the HUD makes when you use it). The sequence of sounds only lasted about a second, and going off of memory it could've clicked about 15 times.

Again, no idea if it is relevant or is just a sound unique to the Cobra after exiting FSD Jump, but it creeped me out quite fair bit.
