Horizons Getting my money back for Horizons upgrade. Very angry.

So with some enthusiasm I downloaded the Horizons update. Only to find that my graphics card appears to not be up to it.

I get a message on loading saying my PC spec is too low to run horizons and as a result, I assume, I am unable to get out of orbital cruise and onto a planet.

If this message is cutting the game out for me then I feel I have not got what I ordered.

Reading through the forum I see people quoting £100+ for a new graphics card to run this game.

Sorry I can't and won't afford that much. I never have before and I'm not about to this time. Not for a game that I'm only going to tinker with.

So Frontier, please give my money back.

DB said those who don't have the specs to run the game will get a refund. Sorry you can't play.

I have the very minimum card able to play the game but I really need to upgrade. My machine is very old.

Maybe some of that enthusiasm should be placed in an email to their customer support and not in a general forum? You might fare better for a refund doing that way...
And you don't even state any specs of your PC?! Is this just a public rant or?

Strange.

if i may ask, what gpu do you have?

Well to be honest I'm trying hard to find out what to do. Forums always get a quicker response than customer support. This being because there are fans out there.

First of all I need to know that I'm right and that this really is the problem. As a very casual gamer I don't have the desire or time to start investigating into what DB said, etc...

The GPU is a GeForce GTS 250 and runs Elite fine normally.

I noticed a comment on the loader about updating graphics drivers so I'm trying that now.

I have now tried installing new graphics drivers as well. I note that the drivers that Elite Dangerous Horizons requires are actually newer than the most recent ones that support my GPU.

So, in defeat I have opened a ticket for a refund on the support page.

Well that doth sucketh mightily. :(

You may still be able to run 1.5 though. You'll get the new ships and some of the other updates at least.

So OP, you didn't bother to check the minimum requirements for Horizons before buying?
<sigh>

Don't worry, you'll get your refund anyway.

You got exactly what you ordered.
If you should be angry any anyone it is yourself for ignoring the written requirements.

Just get your refund.

I know the biggest sport on this forum is to belittle others but have you guys actually considered the big push for pre ordering this game before any specs were given, how many signed up for Horizons before even knowing the specs? They were even taking money from mac users..

I suppose that doesn't suit your mirth at others policy..

OP on the Australian Ebay site you can buy the minimum spec card for just $50AUD and a second hand recommended card for $200 or $500 dollars new. Maybe consider upgrading your computer if possible.

Well, you did get what you ordered, but your pc isn't able to run it.

If you're after advice...

- You should ask FD for a refund.

- You should not be angry. There is nobody to be angry at. Don't ever be angry at yourself.

If you're not after advice, you're better off contacting FD directly via a ticket (from your ED launcher) requesting a refund.

Angry may be overdoing it I suppose. Very disappointed after rather a lot of hype.

Disappointed that I was drawn back into the PC upgrading scam that I managed to leave behind me so many years ago.

Very happy that instead I will return to RL and waste less time on PC games.

Back to Space invaders for you then .... Ha Ha Ha

Real Life actually...

It isn't a scam as long as you buy the right hardware. Both Nvidia and AMD have great price/performance on certain GPU's.

i don't know what vga do you have, but i have a gtx titan x and it performs like a console at crappy 30fps... i'm deeply disapointed with this game otimization/render technique
