UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Has the thought crossed anyone's mind that if the UA indeed is the cause of stations infection then selling them at a surface starport then will do the same plus potentially corrupting the planet as well? Maybe random not traveled ports need to be tested and in different types of worlds too just to see what happens. Who knows that might trigger a system wide quarantine and cause "things" to grow? The Tiberium point made me think of it but metal life forms make me think that high metal worlds should be the likely candidate for this sort of event, after all we hit in the past on the observation that UAs seemed to prefer systems with a lot of metal.

Someone (he knows who he is) suggested the same via Twitter @CanonnResearch yesterday. It's an interesting thought.

Last time I saw a Thargoid was in Miackce. Polaris was just before that.

I think so. I think the barnacles are a metal based life form (cells of metal, not carbon based).

I don't think we need to saw. I think that job is done.

I'm still looking for barnacle eggs in the UA shell :D

Barnacles have a larval stage.

looks familiar doesn't it

When i reflect the whole story on the UA being found first,
it didn't really require a special module to do so, right?
They were spotted in convoys, given you didn't know one was present,
until the discovery of the "weird" comm lines the transporter chatted.

So basically every player was able to obtain them.
Without cargo scanners, limpets and so on.
Then it was discovered they did point to merope,
where they still can be found in a pattern around it in S.S.S.es.

Now i see the horizon release has most players enthusiastic on the idea,
we find the next step to the UA-riddle on ground,
but i don't think so.
Wouldn't the designer want this community effort be carried on by everyone, horizon-purchase or not?
I don't think a SRV-bay is required, nor that the next clue is planetside.

It also is funny, that Horizons is released in this time of the year,
although logical (monetary reasons) wise.
But this leads me to think, we are in the
Advent of Horizons.

I think i put those things on my todo-list today:
- check merope's sun with ua
- check wreckages in space with ua
- check distress calls
- sell ua in maia later on
- check if i can resolve planet names without explo-gear and ua

I totally agree! FD staff know their customers too well and the staff were very happy to pull an all-nighter making sure that the official trailer included a spooky 5 sec teaser of...space barnacles as an added incentive to get the general public to spend £30-£40 on their new season.

Thargoids, if they appear, seeing as nobody is interested here anymore, will no longer be rocking the whole organic technology vibe they were known for.

I had considered that the "possible thargoid base" was organic tech, given that it has a latticed external structure and what look like tall bio-tech structures surrounding it. But it's obviously barnacles.

Take my money FD, give us more barnacles and red herrings too while you're at it! ;)

Don't worry. The Thargoids will show up. I just don't think we are quite there yet.

In the comments FD have made about Thargoids, they describe them as quite dangerous to meet. When they show up, they will probably be angry.

For that to fit with the lore, we have to do something utterly stupid first. They will not attack unprovoked.

Creating a galactic scale environmental disaster, could be the trigger.

If we want angry Thargoids, we must act irresponsibly:D

I did this tonight and yes, you can.

Thanks, so i can scratch that;)

Act irresponsible?
On it!

Edit:
Will dropping toxic waste to bodies, creating junkyards and radiated waste deposits count?

I may have done something dumb. I'm at Merope (finally!), but having mismanaged my ship, I no longer possess a discovery scanner. (Biscuit crumbs apparently tend to short out the contacts). I can't buy exploration data, and I see no planets. What's the best course of action?

Perhaps see if you can purchase it from Maia?

Energy..........outposts, settlements.........generators..........energy depleted UA's......... Tinfoil Hat........

Hi folks, sorry for my long absence, however I have followed you crazy scientists with great enthusiasm daily for months. o7 to you all. And so many new people. Great to see. Now before I get the chance to fire up my DBE engines and head out to join you all again some thoughts I have had whilst reading pages upon pages of fantastic theories. It seems to be a rough consensus that the affected stations are due to sales of mass UA's being the cause. However is it also possible that the presence of so many UA's in one location are sending a signal back to their creators that triggers a second phase for the UA's. I for one plan to check if the stations affected by the UA's point in any certain direction out in the Galaxy that may be sending a trail for the persons/entities that made them.

Also something that seems rather suspicious in its absence is the lack of attention from the major powers to tracking down the truth behind the UA's. Surely there would be some sort of shift by a major power to want ownership and control of a mystery that the entire Galaxy is affected by. For example, bases or outposts cropping up in a certain system that would give one power the edge over all the others in the race for tech and science. Or even a shiny new station perhaps.

I believe we are searching for an outpost or settlement that has been taken over by nefarious means on a planets surface. Somewhere far from the main star of the system and on the dark side of the planet. And also knowing FD's love of leaving clues in their trailers the possibility that other clips in the trailer may have been intended as clues also.

Enough rambling, I am back with my Tinfoil Hat.

Fuel scooping with a small scoop is unbearable... Only managed 5 jumps during this time. I cant wait to get back to civillisation.

Edit:
I am there! I did it! Yay!

Please tell me we are not using Twitter now on top of nine hundred other ways of tracking UA information and theories? What happened to one place for all the information? Do we have a Facebook site yet? Pinterest?

It doesn't look very Thargoidy does it?

Thargoids usually go for the angular design with smooth flat surfaces.

Barnacles also have more than eight (or less than eight?) sides too, last time I checked. Been a while since I've been down at the wharf though at low tide.

Doesn't have outfitting - only restock/refuel/repair I think.

Aaah. Well in that case he's screwed (unless Maia has a shipyard in which case you could at least get a basic scanner with some leger de ship). I call forgetting your scanners "doing a Murp" IIRC. 150LY back to one of the non-affected usual suspects then to get an advanced scanner.

Alternative:
Just wing up with someone who has a d-scanner?
