Right then. So I've been thinking - and given that this is not a natural state of affairs for this correspondent you really should pay attention - that this here UA mystery-wotsit is turning into something of a farce.
Good old Frontier bless 'em, have laboured long into the wee small hours, burning no doubt copious quantities of that there midnight oil to bring us this, their fabulous vision of the galaxy in 330 - whatever the hell it is. And jolly glad we are that they bothered, too! Certainly I am. And that's from the perspective of a sad Muppet with the lack of foresight to have set off sooner and who now finds himself thrashing about in the black, miles from anywhere much, and trillions of miles from anywhere in particular. Who was it that said that A.I.'s had the capacity to be more intelligent than man?
Where was I?
Oh yes. The UA thingy.
Look people, the sad fact is that on the possibly erroneous assumption that Merope now stands centre stage, we nevertheless have a problem to wit: it's humungously, fantasmagorically gigantic.
I'd as lief search for a particular and singular flea on a specific rat in the depths of the Amazon rainforest back on Earth, back in the 21st Century - and I'd stand more chance of success, too!
Of course it doesn't help that certain members of the Frontier Development team- who am I trying to kid, that Michael Brookes - Executive Producer no less!- chooses occasionally to wade in with his size nines and 'help'. Muddy the waters still further that is.
So anyway, for those of you who have had the good grace (and not a little patience) to stick with me so far: this 'mystery' is effectively STALLED!
You read that right: STALLED.
Sure, sure, somebody might just stumble onto something, might just come up with something new, but honestly? If Frontier (are you reading this mister Brookes?) don't throw us a bone here, we might as well give up on this stuff and go back to our 'day jobs'. Me, I was having a nice career being a rather successful trader/explorer thank you very much.
To specifics on the mystery hunt: signal sources, signal sources, signal sources. To date they have been the only 'mechanic' that has gleaned us anything in the way of new data. GalNet? Schmalnet! Palin? Pah!
Frontier Michael Brookes, stop yanking our collective chain. Put up or shut up.
