UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

The simple answer is that I missed it. The progression of story is primarily through things that we check via the server. I keep an eye on here as well to see what is being discussed as well, but that's not my primary source of information. I'm not going to comment on false avenues as that's for the player's to explore, but when I realised that you were following one that was because of a bug I let you know.

Michael

Thank you Mr. Brookes. I genuinely believe this is a sincere apology. I'm sorry I took a video game seriously enough to get mad about it over the internet. It's funny, how the internet let's you wear a mask and say things that you would never say I'm real life to some ones face because of how absurd it is.

Anyway, I think the most important thing we can take from this is that the devs are watching the server closer than they're watching this thread. Which means they must have a lot of ways to see what we've done.

This makes me really curious about what makes the system that Jmanis has been hoarding UA at so special. Any thoughts?

Ok, just experimenting with the disabled stations today. Had a look a carter port in Rhea. After cruising around the station for what feels like an hour and not seeint anything that points to some difference I really ask myself how to remedy this situation.

Are we really supposed to just wait around until our NPC friend Palin has built his base?

The only thing left to do in Carter port was to buy a ship really. Did somebody try to buy a ship in an affected station and then put a UA into it? Would be interesting to see if that changes the morse. I would try for myself but I'm not really knowledgeable in things like audio recording

'Watching the server' is an interesting thing for Mr Brookes to say. It gives me confidence that there may indeed be an actual 'trigger' that we can cause.

Even if that trigger is simply 'X has finally been discovered!'. This isn't just something we need to figure out. There is something we need to DO.

I agree that we need to do something. Just driving around Merope for me seems to yield only lots of frustration. We are probably missing some part of the puzzle

Exactly. Stay positive, keep the shine on your tinfoil hat, and remember that this mystery brought us together. We've high jacked a single game asset and turned it into a subculture. For that alone, the devs deserve thanks.

Lesson learned, bug report every aspect of the UA from now on. Keep the devs on their toes ;)

Professor Ishmael Palin.... For me he reminds the evil Professor on Star Trek:Generations, who had obsession to get back to nexus... rerouting nexus by exploding stars.

Few things:
-Palin is researching those UAs very long.... And has seen those thing in their natural environment.... Wings trailer: Why he is on the run? Who or what chasing him(before that clip)?
-Fed say no to his research and someone try to kill him(fed?). Someone know what he's doing..
-Palin refuses Cannonns help...
-Palin equip very strong shelter(fortress?) to middle to nowhere... Why? Some experimental test? Or just for him if something goes wrong... Against who or what? Or are something going to get UAs back to home and Palin goes to good cover...

Someone in this thread says(long time ago), that Merope may go supernova and AUs are here to tell us to :):):):) of there.... maybe. Or palin can convert UAs to very devastating weapon(trigger star to supernova), make some kind of stargate/portal to another dimension... who knows.

After all, BIG thumbs up to FD! You guys are amazing!!

Ordinary sounds of Morse.
On the scanner, like sound of the ship.

Yes, I've been wondering the same thing - Michael, is it a bug that Jmanis' test station sales experiment did not trigger station problems?

Ive been hesitant to ask, but do we know for CERTAIN that the UA's are supposed to point to Merope?

I bug reported it this morning. Thus far no reply...... (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=214935)

On one hand I really want to contribute to the CG, but on the other hand I've covered quite a lot of ground on merope 5A and I'd feel like it was a waste stopping now.

You receive special dispensation from the CG effort, CMDR - the work your doing is vital! And I hope you're having a good time too!

I'd just like to put a shout out to @jpaulwilson1982, a frequent and highly valued contributor to these threads - and leader of the Knights of the Black - who got a special mention in today's newsletter, and deservedly so.

Please join me in congratulating him on the effort he put into his writings and getting recognised by FD.

Well I was going to head out to the Crab Nebula (you know, Barnacles - crabs etc). But then I realised that I doubt FD would put meta-alloys common so far out where many could not access it.

I did a bit of a tour of the Taurus Dark region, but found nothing of note other than... tea....
buddy of mine had the same idea 2 nights ago. we went there and found ... nothing. the whole nebula has only like 4 or 5 landable planets, tiny icy moons. no ships or uss and so on either.

i can give you a complete list of landables later

Thanks.. glad you and your buddy went through that hard-ship rather than me :)

The mods will come in soon enough and strip a whole bunch of posts out of this thread in a second, no doubt - but before they do...

Last thing I'll say on this subject - it's not false outrage.

More and more new people coming into this now looking for good natured, light hearted cooperative banter, and they come along to find people kicking sand in everyone's eyes because of their outrage at an innocent mistake that was owned up to by the person in question... Honestly, how childish.

I have an aversion to irrational, ignorant cynicism, and while I could choose to add people to my ignore list, instead I choose to express my opinion to the contrary.

Personally insulting the development team, even via smart-alec '[redacted]' elements is out of order, and I will be vocal in dissociating myself from it, because I fundamentally disagree with it.

Equally, further insults at the rest of us (not from you, no) for 'sticking with FD' will not be taken by all in the off-hand way it's meant. Some will be personally offended - and no one person has the right to go around making others feel bad just because they're annoyed.

I believe I am in the majority in feeling this way. If not, then I'm sure people will say so.

Yeah - feel the rage; feel frustrated or whatever, but this forum is not a sounding board for everyone's inner dialogue. Sometimes it's best for everyone else if you just take a step back and keep it to yourself.
I understand the disillusion Clavian and Silent Pact are feeling at the UA, Elite, and FDev in general. I've been feeling some of that myself, I think we all have been somewhat disappointed with Horizons(the scope and depth of it is amazing, but I find it lacking in substance), even if some of us won't admit to it.

But I agree with you here, mostly. I'm sticking with FD. I'm not giving up on Elite, not any time soon.

That being said, the mud slinging that's being going on is a symptom of poor communication as a result of trying to be vague and esoteric. Frontier might not have slung any Mud, but the slinging that happened was their fault. Micheal pretty much admitted to this in his apology.

I wasn't there for the T-series bug, but I still feel that I had wasted some of time at other things in the UA mystery.
But, I'm not giving up though, and I feel that thoughts like Clavians and Silent Pacts need to be expressed, only in less aggressive ways.
FDev need to take in account the feedback on the story elements, like the UA, to better improve them.

On topic, all I will say is: Common in certain areas of space, eh?

Well here is a first atteempt at getting a map ... Just part of Merope 2C - used 3 distinct craters as reference points (took lat/longs) and used the radius as the semimajor axis of the spheroid - didnt have a semiminor axis so interpreted as sphere ...

From the size of the sphere that I projected ... I am suspecting this is not a sphere .... but oh well.

Re-reading the Meta-alloys description and it mentions that 'Large Barnacles' are common in 'certain parts of space'.

Now, assuming that they are not necessarily the artifact/temples we've seen, has anyone given much thought to what 'certain parts of space' could mean? Are we talking certain rare star-classes? Directly within a nebula?
If they really are 'living' then maybe a certain star type is what they need to thrive?

Also, given what a real barnacle is, perhaps getting them to attach to something is what the mystery is. More information on what the 'explorers' in the Meta-alloys description were doing when they found them would be handy, albeit unavailable it seems.

Would be interesting if certain parts of space have them latch onto your ships. Perhaps they attach in witchspace?
