Shoot it you should get a data package
It just exploded. I did not receive anything.

A couple of thoughts regarding the Distress Signals that appear like *SS in supercruise.
Has anyone seen/checked Distress Signals in Merope?
Even on Maia indicate Merope? What about on the air at 10 km in a planet?Edit: @Bigskill
The UA deployed in Merope system points to the exact center of the star, from wherever in the system. Try it yourself
Welcome to the madness.
Strange things afoot!
UA related or just space fever?

Speaking of Merope, I've been exploring the moons there. I've had some troubling issues on Merope 2D.
Some gold i picked up off a random pirate cache seems to have caused various system failures while on the surface without module damage. Namely my thrusters shut themselves off during takeoff and later my shields kept cycling off. It lasted until I got off the moon.
There's also a periodic, split second. aurora like lightshow in the sky that I've yet to screencap. Or it could be my graphics drivers wigging out. One of those.

Not really.. if had to be launched there somehow... so its more academic, if we search for the target or the launching point...EDIT: And to those suggesting they are pointing AWAY from Merope, not towards, it's not -impossible- but it would mean they were all launched from the star itself.
My feeling is that given that they orientate SPECIFICALLY to Merope, not to the nearest star that shares Merope's type, then they have specific interest in THIS system. All the evidence we have shows that Merope is important. The UA's facing the opposite way tells us that Merope is less important and that we don't know what/where IS important. That is bad for a search, lol.
Merope. Even on the ground it tries to point to Merope, if the terrain allows it.

Please may I just check, they point to the exact center of the star ? not a planet in Merope system if dropped near the Merope Star ?
Thankyou.
What if you bring the UA further away more than 200 LY , still indicate Merope? Can be that you have to drop it and follow the directions step by step?
With more UA maybe can indicate a course to follow.... like a person that throw rocks in the bush to be able to come back.... maybe?
I'd be curious to see if you can make one stand up on it's end![]()
Random 1am thought before I go to bed. Was wondering about why the UAs point to Merope which got me thinking....
What's a Compass do? It points to magnetic North (or South, depending on your school of thought). If you've got a compass in your hand, does that mean there's something at North that you want to look at? No. You've got a compass because you want to navigate somewhere, and by knowing where North is you can find your way around (kinda).
But you don't *need* a Compass to know where North is, you could do it by looking at the stars (or if you're Australian like me, you find where South is, with the Southern Cross, and go from there). So why do you need a Compass?
When you can't see the stars, or, perhaps more topically, when you look at the stars, and you can't recognise where you are. Maybe the UA is just letting you know where Merope is, if you have no idea what direction it's in.
EDIT: Now I want to visit the stars of the southern cross...

They point exactly to Merope's main star, yes.
I'm not sure if this has been done already but this is a nice idea. Perhaps they point to Merope because Merope is being used to boost a comms or data signal. Perhaps if taken closer to the ''HQ'' than Merope it will reorientate? Or perhaps indicate other things?
I suspect this has already been tested but don't quote me on that.
