UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

I must admit this whole situation is rather frustrating. We are searching for a needle in a haystack that might not even be there. There comes a time when efforts start to seem fruitless.

Can I question why we can't land on Merope 3 A ?

Compared to all the other Rocky Bodys it looks some what different ? (On purpose?) but other than that what prevents us ?

I cant find any reason...

Is it covered in Meta Alloy ?

It has an atmosphere. It appeared not to have an atmosphere to me too at first, but once I got close and thrown out of cruise I noticed the detailed surface scanner had registered it as atmospheric. I believe it was a some type of carbon or sulphur based atmosphere.

Right...currently stuck in dry dock and going a bit stir-crazy not being able to get back out into the void right now so giving this all too much thought...I'm certain the meta alloys mission is a hint in the right direction; which one I'm not sure of.

"They are associated with"... (barnacles) aka UA... which are "common in certain parts of space" (UA shell or Merope)...

Adopting this mission and exploring these areas is my next objective...if I can only extricate myself from this station bar...

Great job! and beautiful shots!

I thought about dark nebulae, because they are much denser than others (at least I think so) and we've seen these barnacles grow on some dark misty surfaces. And the Coalsack Nebulae specifically, because it's the closest one iirc

Did you think same way?

PS: if you were inspired to go there by my post, then I must tell I never expected my backseat driving techniques were so good :p

I do not remember exactly which post caused me to do it (maybe yours indeed).
I tried to find foggy craters, but many of planets are very dark and there was nothing to be seen.

OK CMDRS.
I'm doing this just because far are the days when people did not get discomforted so easy, days where 100 and more hours of searching were needed to spot an UA Convoy for the first time.
So here you are: the Barnacles POI are in game 100% sure. I don't now where, obviously, but I know they are in game, and in many different configurations.
So please stop complaining and keep on searching :D
They will show up eventually, like any other thing in game so far.
And if we fail, hints will come in the form of cryptic Galnet posts. ;)

Indeed.

If you want to find them just keep looking, pretty simple really.

I've done a path following

Bubble
=> California Nebula
=> Barnard's Loop
=> Trifid of the North
=> Heart Nebula
=> Soul Nebula
=> NGC 281 Nebula
=> Star Wars
=> then heading to Jellyfish Nebula

Plenty of other places to look, Nebulas on the other side of the bubble, look around the edges of permitted off areas, up above, down below etc...

This is actual practical stuff you can do rather than theorizing, or even while theorizing.

Please if someone has a UA just try what I proposed it takes 2-3minutes only.
Land on planet
deploy UA with SRV
go back to ship and lift off
listen to UA if the morse shuts down for you as well. I guess it will and however it might not have huge significance at least let's learn the "modal switches" of our little friends.

I think that everyone should start combing their Nebula instead of a single system. Maybe then we will have more results.
I will not lie, I was pretty furious by the fact that we just do not know where we have to look for. So I just went and scanned the whole Coalsack nebula.

And Palin want a research base, and loads of evacuation shelters in Maia. B1BA, to be precise (Justin for short). Justin is tidally locked so always shows the same face to B1B. I've checked out Justin and so far found nothing of interest. I checked out B1B along Justin's line of orbit to look for observation stations etc. I found an Alliance data point, but nothing more. It does look like he wants to use a base there to observe the other moon up close but not too close. Also fishy why he doesn't want a base in Merope. Again, he's close but not too close. Fishy bloke, that Palin.

I was assuming "Palin" chose to build in Maia because that's where Obsidian Orbital is. In other words, it's a plot point FD is using to build out the newly inhabited system. That explanation works from an in-world perspective, too, because if you're going to conduct risky research on an airless world ~400 Ly from civilization, there are many reasons why you'd want to set up camp in the only inhabited system nearby. Merope is one jump away, but that's still several light-years.

Man o man, I haven't been able to try out Horizons yet and won't be until I'm back from the Christmas break in January. Looking forward to rejoin the madness when I'm back. Perhaps winging up with some other commanders and scour the dirt on one of the Meropian moons if there's anyone left that's not bored of doing it by then.

Good luck with the search and leave some barnacles for me commanders!

Ok, another crazy theory.

Let's grow this shi ... um ... UA!
We need to put UA in yellow canyons on Merope planets and leave it to lie for a few days.

Result: We will grow "the Temple".

Aye. He's got more fish than Captain Birds Eye.

Arrr.

Sorry, but why are we so certain?
Do we have confirmation from the devs?

Im not saying im going to quit looking :)

As an aside, how were the UAs announced?

I am pretty sure that there has been no announcements to say whether or not the barnacles are actually in the game or not yet except for those few seconds in the trailer video. So I would assume that they most likely already exist due to the fact that they were required to make said video.

Regarding the initial announcement of the UA's, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think they were "announced", I think they were found initially by the unusual conversation over the comms in the conveys, then seen when performing a cargo scan.

Actually seeing them for the first time was found by liberating a convey of the cargo.

I just came across a heavily armed convoy in Maia, near the black hole. 2 conda's and 3 vultures guarding a T9, all classified as system security with ant hill tag. Unfortunately no cargo scanner fitted, so no clue what they were transporting. Stayed around for a few minutes, but no interesting chatter.

Not 'we are'. I am.
First, the UA was announced indeed: in the wings trailer. Exactly like the barnacles shown in Horizon trailer.
Second: the missions already in game requiring Meta-Alloys.
And if not enough...
Third: a couple of other reasons that do not need any game hacking at all, but just opening a couple of folders, only to be sure that we are not wasting our time. For Science. Nothing more. ;)
