UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

I have a few observations, for the VETERANS of this thread, about the thread's organization:

It's VERY IMPORTANT that we keep the first post of this huge multi-thread the most updated possible, so that we can point newcomers to it.

Now, seen that Dr.Arcannon cannot be active right now to do this frequently, and I'm a little tired to write the same replies to the same questions, again and again, since day one, I VOLUNTEER MYSELF to write the first post of the next thread, and I PROMISE to keep it always updated, on a day by day basis.

At a first glance, it could seem a huge work, but in reality, it's so much less than writing the same reply post a thousand time, every day. :D

I'm already organizing a couple of other huge threads about ED here in Italy, so I'm used to similar tasks.

PS: If it could be possible to switch this thread's first post property already now, I'd be happy to update it myself even now.

Im up for that cuz is painful to read 415 pages lol.

Seeing POIs from the ship only makes sense. Why else did I buy a gunship, if not to strafe the ground with lazors before leaving my ship?

Also its possible to have the POI appear from the ship, but skimmers not spawn until your boots are on the ground. Just an idea.

I think that sort of happens.

So far, I've seen that sentries are often buried beneath the sand, and are not "woken" by a ship. So I have been landing, tripping the exclusion zone with the SRV, then jumping back into the ship and blasting them.... Canons are stupidly satisfying when used on skimmers.... bit of a waste of ammo... but just very satisfying

I suspect the SRV turret is capable, but I haven't gained confidence in it, and when you're far from home.... well...

Hi Riz - or... When the next thread comes along (which is looking reasonably soon ;) ) make sure you get the second post in :D

Yaffle typically has contacted Arc directly when the next thread is nigh - so we just need to make sure you get 'the nod' when that happens.

You are definitely a great candidate for this job, and it'll be of huge benefit to everyone - thanks, Riz

I'm looking forward to this. The first page needs more CAPS and Bold to get the message across. :p

I'm just reading with interest hoping the Meta Alloys come "Out of the Darkness" soon :)

Agreed, I really wish I could get on and play at the moment, I think with enough people hunting down the Meta-Alloys mission and then going searching for them it would only be a matter of time before some are discovered which could answer the "What are the Barnacles" question once and for all.

However it seems some people have been looking and only one person has had any luck finding the mission, but I don't know how many people are actually looking for it and whether they are taking into account where the previous one was found (on the surface of a planet in a Hi-Tech Refinery system), but it might be an incredibly rare mission.

Thinking about the CG though it wouldn't surprise me if it went something like this:
1. gather resources to build research base
2. gather UA's to research
3. find that they are made with small amounts of Meta-Alloys, begin quest looking for more of this material elsewhere
---> leads to finding the Barnacles and then the Temple, leading to a big reveal of aliens.

Just a theory but it would make some sense.

Can't rep you anymore either. But great idea Rizal, and thanks for offering to update. You are 100% right. People will still keep asking things that feature in the first post, but at least we can just reply "check out the first post, please" instead which is much less writing.

Im considering wasting a massive chunk of my accumulated assets on a T9 space barge just for this CG...

The cargo space in my asp, while great for LR smuggling, is apparently woeful for moving commodities...

Anyone else out there hauling?

I've turned in some bounties as well.

I've been making runs in my T7. Planet landings take a lot more time than just docking with a station. Plus the planet station only seems to have one or two large pads, so I've spent a lot of time hovering outside while spamming the "request docking" button.

Okay, I know what my next course of investigation is. It may take some time though;

Once I'm home from work tonight (about 10pm) I am going to scour the ENTIRETY of the outside of Obsidian Orbital. My hypothesis is that if the UAs are causing station malfunction, and given WHAT a barnacle is, then I'm wondering if there will perhaps be a small barnacle-like growth on the outside of the station.

Now, in relation to station size, it will be tiny. So this will take a while to scour, but it's what I intend to do. I'll record the whole thing for posterity (making use of my youtube account if need be) but I won't upload anything unless there is actually something interesting to show.

Hope you all have a wonderful day while I'm working, waah! :)

I sold up everything and got a T9 for the CG. I took a short break to earn enough to replace my Asp Explorer but I'll be back on the CG tonight.

Yes this is a good start, i'm going to suspend my pursuit of Profitsss (hehe) and join the hunt...

It's no mystery why the ASP can jump so far...

So I'm off to retrace the flight of the Kishino to hopefully not meet with the same fate. Stay safe fellow hunters :)
