UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Ok, probably totally nonsense and just an inattention from the devs, but... maybe not?

I'm currently doing the CG for Palin, already delivered a few thousand of these evacuation shelters, when I just thought "What the hell does Palin want to do with all these shelters?"
I mean, he is actually demanding millions of these things, for a small science outpost! Does this make any sense?

Sooo.. what if Palin is not the good guy here, maybe he is even controlled by Thargoids? And they need all these shelters for some kind of construction.
Maybe each shelter will bring one Thargoid to us and the CG is just a trap?
Has anyone tried to "combine" a shelter with an UA?
Do i just need some more sleep? or less?

1 shelter per UA?

Hm. What was the exact text for that foam-metal description that mentioned barnacles? Iirc it had something like "certain regions of space", and we do have a bunch of "xyz Dark Region" areas. Maybe some of them were even permit-locked before horizons, and could be opened now. I'm now thinking, perhaps the description is a sort of a riddle that tells the sector name at least? Which might fit with the dev's remark about the barnacle answer being "in front of [our] eyes"..

Should we demand to lower tier goals for CGs?
Take Antares Wreckage CG:
View attachment 89473
There's already 440 commanders who on average brought 32 canisters each. That's about 7 visits to wreckage signal, scooping all 2-6 containers each time, spending about 45 minutes to do so.
Why make CG about grinding challenge? The goal meter to first tier haven't even appeared yet!

At least it's a 2 week thing - plenty of time for it to be fixed.

I think the biggest problem now is so many CGs all happening at once. I'm assuming as many CMDRs who want to help the Dahan one also want to do the Antares one - although I guess most of us flit in and out of them at will anyway.

Makes sense, though, get some stuff set up for the holiday period so that the game has content while many of FDs staff are (presumably) on hols!

Google is your friend ;)

It says "parts", not "regions"...

I don't know... it's really a yellow/brown bubble very round, and it should be closer than California, because I was not seeing it, when I was far away. Should be very small.
I'll try to target the nebulas you told me, to see if they match. Shame I didn't take a picture, but I will. News will follow later.
Thanks!

PS:
I found this very interesting collection image of all the nebulas here:

I don't think it's in that region, but what you are talking about reminds me of the Pencil Nebula. I went there in the beta but haven't been back since 2.0. I think there are a lot of small nebulae like that which aren't in that document you shared. This was where I was headed when I jumped into an SSS with a small wing talking about completing a mission with some weird text.

The main CG thread MB has said the Antares CG tiers have been set a bit high and they're going to tweak them down a bit.

PSA:

I'm sure this is known to many, but I'm worried that I've been missing some things.

I believe your "inbox" in the upper left corner is where on-the-fly missions will pop up. I think this is a new feature, right? I always ignore that little notification because that's where stupid reminders about your power play faction go. It struck me though, that this is also where the new instancing/scenario based missions would pop up. Don't ignore them! I was previously checking the transactions box when hoping something would pop up, but I think that's wrong and the inbox should be checked.

just a thought..
has anyone tried to pair somehow the UA with AI Relic ? Is there any list of materials tried to be put in front of UA ?
I wonder if it'll behave differently.

I love that Antares CG... I really do.. let's go on a S.A.R. mission AND let's make any of the findings ILLICIT CARGO, because that makes total sense /Rant.

Shoulda stayed in the Pleiades.

Yeah, they really need to do something about the "illicit cargo" classification of EVERYTHING you find floating in space. Sometimes it doesn't make any sense. At the very least you should get the option to either sell things in the black market for a price or legally return them to their rightful owner for a reward. Specially weird is when you find occupied escape pods:
"Hey guy in the pod, I'd really like to help you, but I don't want to be fined by security forces. Also, if I pick you up I can only sell you as a slave because reasons".

No joke! FD are you listening? please stop treating real salvage like a snicker's bar at the bottom of a swimming pool!

Many times.
And
All the in-game commodities until 1.4 has been tried. And all the Rares. And one time, even all the commodities together, by me. The Huge commodities test, was called.

There are new commodities now, in 2.0, if someone wants to try them. Personally I think it's not an in game mechanic.
But, who knows...

The same old song;)
If it is cool, it most likely is illegal.

The exception here is that this is an advertised search and rescue/recovery mission. Why would found remains be deemed illegal and cause fine if scanned? This is bad design on FD's part.

The tinfoil hat suggests to me that maybe it is illegal because a local government has a vested interest in the truth not coming to light.

Without my tinfoil, though, it's likely just a gameplay oversight.

It's the elephant nebula I think. It kept catching my eye too from a similar location. The Nebulau itself is actually quite a long distance out if I'm correct, well beyond the California nebula. Hopefully you do find something out there though if you go looking for it. I actually shared the same idea at first, thinking it was close, but when I noticed both Elephant and Cave back there I wrote it off as one of those since the colors were similar. Now, I'm beginning to question that. It did stick out to me as unusual on first sight.

Ok I found someone else who has accepted the Meta-Alloys mission (zombieapocolypse), he also says the mission was accepted from a surface base, but doesn't remember too much about where he accepted it or what ranks were required, however he thought it could have been Cartmill's Folly in Sowiio.

I also found someone else who had accepted one but haven't had a response from them yet, so that makes 3 people who have discovered the mission. I'd suggest if you're looking for it to look at surface bases but it doesn't really advance us yet, and there are a few people asking about Meta-Alloys around the forums but no one has actually found any yet.

I'd be willing to bet this is the next big thing to look for, and that finding some may be nearly as significant as finding the UA's. But really the people looking in to them outside of the Canonn are just as in the dark about them for the moment.

Oh and I failed to read the whole thread properly and it seems some one else came across the mission in LHS-215 at the Laveykin Observatory.

It would probably be useful to narrow down the economy of those systems that are requesting meta-alloys. I have a feeling that you'd be more likely to find that request from High-Tech and Industrial systems than say... agriculture but I could be wrong. Perhaps this should be one of the key parameters to take note of when looking for the mission.

I had found some cargo on planet at a wreckage site (cobra I think it was).
Drove off in my SRV and saw in communications screen that I if I returned them to the rightful owner (certain system & certain port) a reward was offered. They were 2 canisters of non-lethal weapons. The reward was worth more than the the galactic average, and it noted them as stolen in my inventory tab.

However, the amount of time that I had to return it was 0H 0M. I'm guessing that is a bug :)

I'm guessing that FD is going to do more of this.
