Aye, I am also of the opinion that the UA and Barnacle are one and the same thing.

I used to think there was a strong similarity between the two but I stuck a UA image next to the bit I thought shared the most in common. I thought the lit panel in the trailer screenshot (right) looked like the pod panels on the UA (left). I'm not so sure now.

I took one 1.5k ly away and still pointed to merope. Or away from it.
If I remember well someone took it to Sag A but i don't know when. The destination theory is rather easy to check as you only need a few hours to fly it.
Now with the ability of reloading our AFM on the fly you can take it for a very long trip if you so wish

Let's have a quick look at some assumptions

There's a lot of talk about tidally locked planets etc, barnacles preferring the dark, all because the thing in the trailer was in the dark, and the sky was very dark with little or no stars visible.

1. Many lifeforms on Earth prefer the dark. Some live in caves or deep in the ground or under the sea, and many just sleep through the day and are active at night - because the Earth is NOT tidally locked to the sun.

2. Just because it was dark in the few seconds of the trailer where the thingie is shown does not mean it is dark there ALL THE TIME

3. Just because it was dark in the few seconds of the trailer where the thingie is shown does not mean the thingie PREFERS the dark.
Excellent post and good thing to keep in mind when searching. Some barnacles are fully submerged (dark), but many species attach in inter-tidal zones where they are sometimes submerged to feed and sometimes exposed. The mysterious space barnacles associated with the meta-alloys could easily reside on a planet that has a day / night cycle and the trailer just showed them during the night.

Or they could be in deep craters that are perpetually dark. Nothing should be ruled out yet. Searching for them on a planet that has a permanent dark side is unnecessarily limiting at this point.

Re Barnacles while we wait to hear whether the bug with misspelling affects us. A couple of thoughts;

- If the Barnacles prefer the dark side, then they can only exist on a tidally locked body.
Hm, I think we need to digest this exclusive behaviour. This is a very special attribute if so, and it raises more questions.

How did the Barnacle come to be, regardless of them preferring the 'dark side' (tidal locked bodies only), or anywhere?
- Have they been seeded by someone?
- Was it us, galactic pilots spreading the seeds via the UA's?

Well, as soon as we start finding them or meta-alloys we may start getting a pattern to study.
.. back to checking planets & SSS.

PS, quick question
- Any related activities regarding the SSS 'medical convoy' and the NPC chatter?
It feels so much like the 'UA transport convoy' all over again. Any special events spotted with this new type(s) of convoys?

The medical convoy is the one thing I've been curious about but I didn't have a cargo scanner on me at the time. I found 4 of them last night. It is suspicious... like their are hauling precious cargo under false pretenses.

Found many many many dark craters .. AND planets that were NOT lit up by the nebula in Maia by the black hole. That greenish anomoly in the video definitely could be in the Maia system. I'm positive the black hole is in play in this story somehow. The Pavlou Landing etc has something to do with it as well. They put it there for a reason and its in a really cool area with a large planet/moon hovering over it.

Was interesting to explore the invisible rings around some of the planets. You couldn't see the ice rings at all until you were practically on top of them.

If the barnacles are involved somehow it makes me wonder if water has anything to do with this. It would make a purpose for searching ice rings. So far nothing other than some odd dark spots on some of the roids. Tried mining them without any luck.

Explored a few of my ideas last night but it is so time consuming.

After reading the incorrect filenames I'm thinking its definitely a POI that is randomly generated so there needs to be a trigger and a correct and very specific TYPE of moon.

I'd love to see a post recently where MB said that there actually IS something more to find involving the UA.. I haven't seen any evidence there is more really. The Barnacle thing could be completely separate but may be related later on in the story.

Also I think you guys are reading too much into the barnacle thing. I think the lack of spelling shows they didn't think it through too much. They just consider them to be round nautical like things that attach to ships and objects and have good properties for construction.

You shouldn't rule out asteroids aswell,
these rocks are affected by gravity aswell and rotate on their own.
I am doubtful we have seen the source of the "barnacles" in the trailer,
and i can still make no rhyme on why the UAs spread around the Pleiades or where the have come from
in the first place.

If they have have originated from a planetside source, how come they do not move on their own.
With their current behaviour i doubt a UA would be able to escape even low gravitational pull.

Currently i guess they are blind passengers, scanning stuff,
but what else?

I was starting to think the same thing - maybe the metal alloys ARE the UA - maybe you bring them back a UA and the mission is complete? Anyone tried this?

where have you found the medical convoys?

HIP 17561 , 150Ly far side of Merope (going away from the Bubble) almost as soon as I came out of Jump and lined up for my next...

Medi.jpg

Also cant help but wonder, as someone posted a few pages back, is the "shell" complete ? Is there a gap in it ? Or does it have an appendage of UA spawns leading off in a particular direction ?

With Palins new base and Obsidian Orbital as bases/launch points, retrieving things like Meta Alloys from the far side of the shell wouldn't be far...

Just thoughts. o7

SSS in misc systems near the Antares CG, can't remember whether it was one of the systems, or a mid jump.
At least inspected 4 of these convoys, didn't have a cargo scanner at the time, nor a wake scanner.

Found a crap load in Maia last night by the black hole.

This is the scenario we're talking about.
The size varies, this is with 3 escorts and a Python. Think I've seen 2 escorts and Type-7 or something as well.

I never said I claimed anything I simply suggested you guys to look somewhere else and make a roadmap with defined objectives but it's fine y'all can keep doing what you are doing best. I'm used to hotheads who just want to read what they want to hear.

I'm just here for the popcorn.

You are here to troll. Plain and simple, obvious troll is obvious.:D

Yep with all the comms chatter about "reporting in... I guess the cargo is secure..."

Anyone ripped them a new one to see what they are carrying ?

Yeah, it was just research materials or something similar to that.

Might be worth rechecking though, this was in beta, obviously all you need is a cargo scanner.

edit: yeah sole hunter = troll. Came in about 6-7 months ago pretending he knew the answer to the UA, claims he'd hacked the client, of course he was unable to deliver and in the end was more of a hindrance than a help due to some folk taking him on his word.

And as I remember it all started to get a bit heated when people in this forum were choosing not to follow his "theories" with a mod eventually stepping in (twice I think). Obviously none of this was helpful.

With the UA convoy, we probably had to go through 100 dud convoys before we found one with the proper content.
It may be the same thing here.

So let's start dropping them and see whether we can figure out what this one does.

Aye could well be the Painite/UA common/rare switch type of thing, though obviously in this instance with the medical convoy we have chatter on every sighting of it.

I'm more interested in checking their wake to see where they are going with it.. ?

Sat at Maia B. No SSS spawning. Just USS WSS and SW.....maybe its because I DO have a Cargo scanner. :)

Fly around to the planets .. I find they spawn close to the moons. I mean right close to orbit at times.
