UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Ladies and gentlemen, and we have here again.... Sole Hunter!
Fortunately I have a very good memory...

I must say that all the UA mystery have been already solved completely, in a top secret Italian forum here, but I can't talk about that, or I'll be killed immediately.
Seemed everybody was ganging up on this guy I was almost about to defend him, but apparently he has a reputation.

Now that Maia is inhabited, I wonder if that has changed the "demographics" of the surrounding space.
If things are weighted to appear or not appear based on the distance from the nearest human settlement...

Just had a thought. I need to pull up RedWizard's page/app but are there any major holes in the MEROPE shell? Maybe that would be a clue to where to find the barnacles. Shell systems where you can't find any UA. Perhaps there are a cluster of such systems in a region of space.

There are big holes but I think they are just due to a lack of looking. We've only actually checked a few hundred systems out of thousands in the shell; it's a big volume of space.

Russians, Italians... You have all once again just danced the puppet dance for Spain. Muwahahahaha! While you've all been chasing your tails we have solved the UA riddle and weaponised an ancient, terrible alien technology. You days are now counted! NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INTERDICTION!!!

Meanwhile, Australia's down here like ":):):) mate?" (Caution: swears in the link :p)

EDIT: Oh,, that acronym is censored....

Been wondering if the meta-alloys missions are required to trigger your ability to find them...

If you do get the mission - head directly to the Pleades.

But like others have said - there is zero evidence so far that this is in any way related to UA's.

9-pages later, sorry.

I would assume 'yes', but not as in 'required', but to increase the odds enough.
Keep in mind FD's design regarding mission events & RNG:
- As with SSS/USS/WSS, early testing showed that when you picked a mission to search for Xyz-item, the chance of you finding them in xSS increases many times when you have a mission looking for said item.
- Same goes for transport/smuggling missions, the chance of interception or scanning goes up. The RNG range is being increased by some mission parameter, increasing your chances.
One should assume the same rules apply for the Meta-alloy mission as well.

It's probably possible to find it without missions, but then we need to be at the right place & the right time for RNG to bless us.

The question is then: "Should I find a mission to increase my chances for a few hours, or should I just search randomly?"
Personally I think I'll try both. Dock now & then to find the mission - while flying about doing studies at planets POI.

In the local game files under POI, the folder and .OVL file are misspelled. The file is spelled "Barnicle" (the I should be an A; Barnacle).

Re Barnacles while we wait to hear whether the bug with misspelling affects us. A couple of thoughts;
... I have searched quite a lot even on the night side in case the barnacles perfer darkness ...
- If the Barnacles prefer the dark side, then they can only exist on a tidally locked body.
Hm, I think we need to digest this exclusive behaviour. This is a very special attribute if so, and it raises more questions.

How did the Barnacle come to be, regardless of them preferring the 'dark side' (tidal locked bodies only), or anywhere?
- Have they been seeded by someone?
- Was it us, galactic pilots spreading the seeds via the UA's?

Well, as soon as we start finding them or meta-alloys we may start getting a pattern to study.
.. back to checking planets & SSS.

PS, quick question
- Any related activities regarding the SSS 'medical convoy' and the NPC chatter?
It feels so much like the 'UA transport convoy' all over again. Any special events spotted with this new type(s) of convoys?

I've tried Nelson Works in Dahan, as well as Shriver Platform in Ovid, can't get the meta alloy mission to appear, even with endless switching between Open, Solo, and Mobius. Wondering what the secret password is to get into this club...

maybe delivering a load of evacuation shelters for the CG might spawn the meta alloys mission?

But do UAs prefer the darK? Should be testable-was looking at the Merope-pointing retest video yesterday & to me the blue spores on the side nearest the ship seemed to be moving towards the ship more than the spores on the other side, so still think the spores are the infection mechanism. But it struck me we have only seen UAs in lit conditions (obviously!) - on a planet surface or in space; I think someone posted that they had tried in a planet shadow, but presumably that situation still has light from space.

A quick(ish) experiment for someone with a UA- could you please drop it at the bottom of a dark crater or canyon on a tidally-locked moon. Leave it for a few minutes, then switch on your SRV lights first illuminating off to just one side of the UA & observe (video) the behaviour of the spores . If my hypothesis is correct the spores should try to avoid the light; & possibly on the dark side they would be heading towards the moon surface (think they are self-luminescent so should be able to observe their behaviour in the dark).

To satisfy my own curiosity, would someone please be so kind as to point me to a link/evidence where a clear distinction was drawn between Barnacles on the one hand and UA's on the other.

For all I know, they are one and the same thing, just a designation/name given to the said 'unknown' artifact. That would be too funny :D

Well, that a good question. Barnacles, I think everyone assumes is what was spotted in the trailer, at 00:58 seconds:

UA's could just happen to be baby-Barnacles .... or eggs not hatced yet.
If there was any evidence, it would have been on the front page of this thread / wiki / canonn.science. And we wouldn't been having these speculations :)

PS, bud, you happen to notice the Canonn TS? I just wanted to say Happy New Year to you :)

Soul hunter does indeed have "History" and seems to enjoy spreading his own brand of Bovine Extract around the site, He went away for a while as most of us long time Tin Foil forum mad hatters ;-) have him on the ignore list, With all the new and keen UA hunters around he seems to have re appeared. Every one is entitled to an Opinion, Theory or Idea, however claiming to "Know" all the answers and claiming to have either hacked the game files or know someone who has is a good way to discredit yourself on this thread. Who anyone pays attention to is up to the individual, but some people on here have better pedigrees than other :).. Fly safe & Fly Informed ! o7

Well the UA do glow in the dark. This on is on the ground.

I think they stopped missions regenerating on leaving the game. You should be seeing the same missions each time.

Im running the Evac Shelter CG (top 5%) and I check the bulletin board every time I dock. (I got three stations I use). An empire and two fed. Ones planetary.

Im a baron and a warrant officer. Friendly to both empire and fed (barely known by the alliance)

Ive got no elite rankings, I'm in a T9

Ive never seen a meta-alloy mission yet.
