UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

I don't know how long it's been since Eddy dropped his UA's off at Robigo Mines, Robigo, but the station was still up and running last night. Might be of interest.

I stopped immediately subsequent to the second drop. I erroneously mistook Robigo for a Pirate base, hence my attempts to close it down. That said, I'm good for 10+ a trip, unlimited supply, so if someone knows of a Pirate base that needs a lesson, let me know.

I see. I was wondering. Well, it looks like you didn't drop enough to shut it down, or Robigo is immune. Who knows which.

Regardless, it seems to be functioning like normal as of last night.

Quick info, we're playing with a UA at Maia A 2 A now.
Youtube livelink: https://gaming.youtube.com/channel/UCwyzwHIL_r8AuQIe7LJJ29A/live

We can hear it from a good distance, 1,5-2km almost, while on ground.
Well do 2 more tests now:
- UA on ground.
- Pilot in ship, when will he stop hearing it?
- Pilot in space, while looking at planet, any new special sounds coming from the planet and sensors
- Pilot checking system-map and sounds coming from the planet.

Feel free to watch.

nice data, can you explain to me how you get the surface type? i looked all over the system data and didn't find anything...
Sorry, I dont have a clue. It is a player construct invented by some of the other contributors, not anything in-game, and with my GPU I only get "flat", "bumpy" and "cliff". Doesn't seem to have an effect at the moment.

Foggy craters? I'm surprised I haven't come across any myself. I wonder if these are the volcanoes mentioned in the system map details...

Which strikes me as the ideal place to find life on a planet with no atmosphere. Like Pompeii worms thriving on volcanic hydrothermal vents in the ocean, the barnacles might only thrive within certain types of volcanic craters. This would also explain the 'dark sky' in the Horizons trailer. Is there a crater out there with a 'black' smoke? I'm certainly going to keep an eye out for something along those lines from now on.

I wonder if the barnacles spread from spores 'hitching a ride' on ships or from being blasted off world via meteor strikes (panspermia), and hope they end up in a suitable environment.

I'm tempted to abandon this CG and head off again in my exploring ship...

OK, I have still not managed to find a mission, I do have a target planet though, if anyone has the Alloy mission contact me in game - CMDR "Bloody Nutter"

Thanks

Anybody knows of deep and dark craters or canyons in the Merope/Maia area? Would like to check them out if there are any... Of the kind where no lights come in, not even the ambient daylight found on the dark side of planets...

Well 1 d near the pole ( north I think) it was incredibly dark. Found germanium vanadium and some zirconium, lots of tea, animal meat, gold. Found an interesting outpost with a private data node, in misty crater at the equator. No barnies i' m afraid.

I am asking you personaly if you could have a listen to the comms chatter you will hear when locked onto a base in the planet schematics map.
I don't know if anything will come of this but there is definitely something there.
I know you are the authority when it comes to morse code.
Please spend a few minutes and listen (full volume).

Have anyone built up the database of different sounds that the SRV scanner produce when it encounters different elements on the ground, perhaps their a clue in there. Unless I miss hurd and sensors don't make different sounds when they encounter different elements on the planet surface.

I'm interested, and I have the mission still active.
I'll contact you soon.

I already did it few days ago finding nothing relevant. I'll do it again. Do you have any particular base in mind?
Perhaps not everyone knows that also the planets have different sounds when zoomed in the system map. I always choose them for the sound they make ;)
Same thing for the systems in the Galaxy map. Everything has its sound in ED.

Hello Nutter. I have the alloy mission active. I'm parked in Merope. Looking for target planets, but running out of ideas. Was looking for deep dark craters or canyons, but unlucky so far. Will contact you in-game. My Cmdr name is "Dargo Losan".

It seems to be the same audio for every base.
Lock onto the base in the planetary schematics map and you will hear some garbled voices and a repeating pattern which sounds very much like morse code.
I may be nothing, but it is driving me mad.
I think it needs to be looked at by someone with the intelligence to rule it out/in (which is not me)

The audio changes when you lock onto a base.

I'm not sure what you are getting at here.
Yes, the SRV wave scanner does make different sounds and waveforms depending on the POI or material, but how would that help us?
An Unknown Artefact gives the standard cargo signal. To thin lines just above the midpoint on the wave scanner. So I suspect the Barnacles to give off a structure signal, one thin line near the top. I don't know that for sure so I should investigate all POIs just to be certain. Not to mention POIs on planets in deep space are rare, therefore you don't have to differentiate the wave forms, you'll only get one every few Kilometres.

Also the sound only really becomes discernible when you are close to the object.
Materials are slightly different.

That is what i am thinking.
These are the very rare and undisclosed rare materials( materials on the Wiki that have no rareness rating).

VERY RARE
Polonium
Yttrium
Zirconium

UNKNOWN RARITY
Antimony
Ruthenium
Tellurium

I think one or more of these my be what we are looking for.

I picked up some Antimony on Merope 1A - not much, mind you.

You're also currently in the lead for the Great UA Drop experiment by my reckoning ;)

Hey there, i think we can divide the SRV scaner by 4 layers being the inner most 1.

so what i know so far:

1's are Material Sources like outcrops .
(from what i remember a low pitch sound and a full layer 1 is a outcrop, a high pitch sound and 2 thin lines are Mesoderite and Metallic meteorite)

3's are Cargos.

4's are POIs.

right now i've yet to encounter a layer 2 signal.. maybe it's life forms?!

I'm pretty sure these just appear randomly. I have everything on that list except Polonium, but I did find it in the Beta.

Zirconium is common. Everything else is Very Rare.

You are drawing conclusions at this point.

I'm searching worlds like Antares B 3, 100% Metal, with an almost green ambient light. Next time, carry an UA to drop there.
