Make sure you get enough materials before you jump for the jump there and back. From my experience your best bet is to find a metal planet and just grind until you get the materials needed. Good luck
Hello. Maybe someone can lend me a hand.
I have the meta-alloys mission active, with 4 days expiration timer. On the search for possible star candidates where I could find the barnacles/meta-alloys, I headed out towards Orion, as I have a good feeling about the area as it has a special connection with the Pleiades, specifically to Merope, in greek mythology.
The star I'm trying to reach is Epsilon Orionis, also well known as Alnilam. It's the middle star in the Orion's belt, and is a blue super giant with a black hole as well. It is one of the brightest stars in our sky, and it has served as anchor point to classify most of the other stars in our sky.
Approaching the system, I have found myself stuck on trying to reach it. I'm about 160ly away from the star, and can't find any approach vector to reach it. It seems to be inside a hole without stars. I'm in an Asp capable of doing 31.27ly jumps, but I'm seeing that to reach the star I need to perform several jumps of 40 to 50ly's. I'm going to need quite a bit of FSD injections to reach it. And even if I do, I'll have the problem of getting back out. At the moment I don't have enough materials for even a basic injection, and I'm having trouble finding the needed materials. I already had to backtrack a bit to find a system with planets, but I'm finding only ice rocks. If anybody can give me a hint on how to or where to find the needed materials, that would be great.
Also, if anybody in an Anaconda happens to be nearby, maybe they can reach it. I find this star fulfills all the needed criteria for barnacles: blue super giant, important star, right quadrant, and connection to the Pleiades in mythology. But most suspicious for me is the fact that the star is so difficult to reach... You can't get to this star by chance, you have to be trying to reach it on purpose to get to it...
So if anybody can help me, or someone want's to try... I'm going to keep looking for materials for the FSD injector, but I'm a bit worried that even if I manage to reach it, that I might not be able to come back at all...
Oh... And a happy new year to all!!!
[EDIT]: Link to Alnilam in Wikipedia
Thanks Dinsy. The problem is that I think I will need at least two basic, and one standard injections to get there alone... Thanks for the tip on the high metal content planet though, will search for one nearby. Mostly ice rocks around here...

Thanks a lot for that link! I'll try to reach the entry star they are talking about there, but it means I could reach it with just one basic FSD boost. That looks like more manageable, although I might need other boosts to get to the entry star. They where using Asp's with more range there than me. Had to upgrade the thrusters to survive high G planets, and also equip a shield to avoid taking damage on landing...I just want to say that Alnilam is a very interesting sytem.
It has more or less everything.
Check this thred for suggestions: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=143781&highlight=Alnilam
You will need boost.
Alnilam, Epsilon Orionis (AEO).

From the angle I'm approaching, the next star is 41ly, but for the one after that it looks like it's even more. I'll try to find another route in, although I have to backtrack to surround this area. I'm still 150ly out of the star. What is the jump needed? 38? 39? how many?

remember that exist a lighter hangar with more power output, seems like a fair trade for a explorer..
Thanks Cmdr!
Will for the moment assume the same applies to the other two stations so
UA infecting stations theory appears still to be valid.
ok, i'm adding you and striping down my asp and going for a look
Sure. But be aware that there might be nothing there! But it sure looks like an interesting system...
I'm at the main menu now and overrun by kids, so not sure when I'll be able to get in game again. Will tell you my actual position as soon as I can
If you mean Arietis sector ID-H a-11 3, 6 Then I've had a look. Not found any Barn(I)acles but I did find some Polonium.
Found a lot of rare materials but no BarniesDuno where to point now.

I run the light one. The other one is heavy as hell. I still manage fine with a D-Class power suply, even with A-Class FDS, Thrusters and distributor.
