I wouldn't say that. I made fifty million in two months. If he doubled the exploration time in comparison to my own, he would have lost upwards of a hundred million or more in an instant. A horrible blow in time and money.

But of course we all know the explorers favorite meme of all time, " I don't do it for the credits". A statement always worth a laugh.

Well you could easily make that with an average trading ship in a week.

Sucks for you man. Ditch open and join us in Mobius. You get all the good things of multiplayer, like peaceful interactions and none of the lame ones, like you being murdered for no reason.

I've always traded and explored in Mobius. Go to open when you're looking for a fight.

Though I deeply sympathise with OP, being in open you deliberately take the risk of being killed for no reason. That's also why I enjoy open; solo or mobius are kinda like god-modes to me. Once you get to a cobra, you can't be killed in solo unless you're stupid, drunk, or both. (Yeah, I got myself killed a couple times because of one of those). The chance of getting killed in open makes
the game a lot more exciting for me.
Anyway, I only went on relatively short exploration trips, 5k ly out or something. And when I returned, I did it in Open. But not before taking a moment, and asking myself if I really want to risk the data I had gathered. I made the conscious decision the thrill made it worth it for me.
Now, if I were to go out and explore for 4 months like you, I think I'd make the switch to solo to turn in my exploration data. I'd feel a bit like a coward (again, just my sentiment about it) but that much time and data? I'd rather not take the risk.
Having said that; if you let the other guy know you just came back from a long exploration trip, and him shooting you nonetheless is a real douchy move.
