UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

There were some posts from other members that went beyond that, and I think that is what Yaffle was likely to be referring to here.

i would imagine so. hacking and renaming the files to load them was suggested i think and would be bad in my opinion.

Although discussing if it could be a bug or oversight during xmas festivities at FD ;) worth investigating after some folk found in logs missing files to load etc, that got me very curious about the POI's that have been spawning.

I've put planet exploring on hold as in its current state it seems hollow and all the same random generated POI's with no relation to the planet youre on.
If some POI's are missing or not loading it may explain the large number of POI's i've found totally empty.
i know on some larger wrecks the cargo can roll off nearby but this was a massive signal i followed across flat plains to what was 2 metal ship structure parts. Nothing there no cargo nothing but a massive wave signal which seemed odd for the wreck.

Seems to be little difference in what is found from in the bubble to the borderlands and far out into deep space. No difference apart from what materials can be found with the variety of planet types.

So far , random Data intel sites, 5k-20k. different probes or instalations but for the time to find or do anything the reward seems low.
i guess some are used for a mission to download the data if you are near to starports but far outside the bubble and deep space, you would think more value would be had for some long lost probe data.

Destroyed SRV or some structural part of ships with a few cargo about. Always the same, Consumer goods/Animal meat/Narcotics/Battleweapons/Gold or the famous TEA!.

No matter how far out i've gone from the bubble exploring planets, theres always Tea.

Once i did get exited far far out when i was following a strong wave signal for a few kms and over the horizon seeing a large structure!. From afar not barnacle looking but interesting, zooming over the ground down the hillside eager to see what i had found i approached to find a guarded installation .... that made all the tea i think.!

Only thing that was interesting i found on my journey. vid uploaded

Apart from that i feel like many hours wasted driving around planets with little content.

My search for the trailer system with the nebula i decided to leave. Seems little chance it would be a direct clue and would be a futile search. No starports on planets or anywhere nearby to the nebula area.
I'd believe it if the trailer wasnt generated from a 3rd person perspective ,and was in cockpit or SRV seat then maybe could be found in game.

Now i await for some story to be kicked along as that base for Pallin and search for Antares i hope may give new leads.

there's this one but the main star must be named so I can't find the system:
http://universalcartographics.org/records/closest-wolf-rayet-star-to-sol/
will fly to sol in a bit should be able to locate it with the distance provided
edit: ah its lawd 26

edit2: this one is 750Ly from sol http://universalcartographics.org/records/wolf-rayet-star-with-the-most-bodies/ it has lots of planets

this one is 730ly but less planets http://universalcartographics.org/records/hottest-wolf-rayet-star/

Don't forget to update/correct the content in your first link 283B <-> 293B
Yellow main entry is wrong! (And system: LAWD 26 would also help ...)
Keep up your great work!

What program do you use for overlapping the layers?

Whitch parts of the skybox don't want to match? Did you make multiple screenshots along your journey and could you share some of them?

Indeed.
LAWD 26 is the first that comes to mind, being a few Ly from Sol, then Shapley 1 is another.
I'll be going in both of them soon, with the Alloys mission still active.

High Temperature Stars, with close landable planets, could be a good way to go, IMHO.
Thunderbird System was really close to this description, but I found nothing relevant in the Metal Planet that is very close to the hot main star.

HIP 16753 1 is a 100% metal world, no atmosphere, orbiting pretty close to its parent star. IIRC, it's only 20-30LY from Merope and the planet surface temp is ~1000K.

I was running around on it a lot yesterday and didn't see anything other than the regular POI spawns. A few outposts with data points, one or two downed satellites with data to recover, gold being guarded by some drones, etc. I didn't have any missions, though - just hunting for good metals.

Lead #651 - I ended up near Polaris today. Jumped around at the neighboring systems, checking a few planets out. First thing I find was a very, very small POI, was actually almost a dot on my screen. First time I found such a small POI I've got a screen if anyone is interested. It contained active Mining Extractors. First I ever found, but probably something other have seen before. Destroyed them all and got some nice metals from that. (No Meta-Alloy though) :(
After that I went to Wredguia WT-I d9-51 . Nothing to see, but flew around anyway. After two minutes I found a distress call. Decided to jump in since pirates don;t come this far out. Found destroyed ship. But weird thing was, System Authority Vessel was already there. What the . is he doing there? Not a inhabited system in sight, but mister authority starts brandishing the hardpoints on his Viper mkIII and acts like he owns the place. Don't think that encounter is something significant and just a NPC out of his place... A now dead npc...

I am now actually contemplating of traversing the distance of just over 5 ly in SC towards Polaris to circumvent the permit. Or is it actually impossible to get to other systems that way?

So basically: still fishing around without any result. Maybe time for a hint Mister Braben?

You'll never get into a locked system by SC running...you HAVE to jump to get there, because the hyperjump is a form of loading screen for the game :( So, no epic SC runs from system to system that make Hutton look like a 20ls run from the nav point to a station....

Too bad. I enjoyed the Hutton CG and was hoping to get to Polaris by leaving my computer on for a day, leisurely checking forums now and then... Looks like I'll be off to go for lead #652

Large POI & very strong signal suggests something is there but we can't see it. Just a thought, but how about
1) trying the same place on a new instance, just in case the cargo hasn't spawned, & if ntohing shows then...
2) trying prospecting Limpets to check meta-alloys&/or other goodies aren't under the surface (I did point out the energy spike from a dying UA results in a green cloud about 2 meteres behind the UA which I suggest could be a seeding mechanims to get the larvae/spores underground)

What program do you use for overlapping the layers?

Whitch parts of the skybox don't want to match? Did you make multiple screenshots along your journey and could you share some of them?

Ive been Using the photoshop.

The best way to do is :

1- get the trailer image by printscreen

2- the get a sample of the nebula on you cockpit.

3- scale the trailer image by using the 2 galaxies (since they are "infite" away, anywhere in the vincinity will show the same distance and orientation)

now you have a galaxy on your cockpit scale, the next screen shots you just need to paste the cockpit image overlaping the trailer one and see the results.

Since i already have this i make it downloadble here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx3YTyruzUN9WEgwLVRlU0FtcXc/view?usp=sharing

Quick tip for allingment of the screenshot.

Alling one of the nebula:

Crtl + T will get you on the free form mode.

then ctrl + click on the nebula you allinged.

now you will rotate the image around that point.

alling the second nebula and you are done.

i'd like to have the SRV wake scaner image of the mineral extractor fields if you have one :)

Well there is one possibility that hasn't been checked from what I have seen. Are we certain the UA's themselves are not the Meta Alloys everyone is looking for. Considering that from what we have seen they are the only object in the Galaxy that come close to the description. Also another possibility is that there is a way of making Meta alloys in the SRV that hasn't been discovered yet. The reference to "parts of the Galaxy may also mean a reference to a place that spaceships go to die, eg salvage missions or shipwrecks that are as yet undiscovered. If say a floating UA was to have entangled with a wrecked ship in space, is it possible that they are then able to spawn into a new form consuming the debris field.

So many possibilities so little time. o7

Well the in game description says that meta-alloys are associated with 'large barnacles' https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=214256
Maybe the in game description is a typo and it should read barnicles. Like you I'm thinking wrecks and barnicles similar to shipwrecks and rusticles on earth. Is it coincidence that the trailer shows a large wreck right before the barnacles? Find a large wreck POI in the right place(s) and maybe there are barnicles. I don't know if any large wreck POI have actually spawned anywhere yet though. Do they spawn or are they placed by FD? Maybe someone knows the answer and the absence of both could explain much.

Thanks for sharing! You spared me 1000Ly trip! ;D
@rizal72 you seem to have a lot of experience in exploration ... Can you help me how to reach the elite rank in exploration ? ( we're gonna call it investigation ;) just for science

But I do wanna test a theory , to see if the meta alloys are related to our ranks in exploration trading and combat so there is that ...

The Meta Alloys commodity mkt description says "...certain parts of space...". Plural.
I've been studying the galaxy map trying to find some kind of commonality in various areas around 300 - 2000LY out from the bubble. Nothing remarkable so far.
I've searched in many of the dark regions, including various different planet types. Nothing so far.

Also tried various far out planets (20,000LS +) thinking the 'parts' may possibly relate to distinct parts of systems, rather than the galaxy in general. Again - zip.
Different star types.
Planets orbiting ammonia worlds.
Water worlds. Gas giants with water and ammonia based life as well as most of the nebulae.
Even homed in on a high density L, T and Y type dwarf star area... you guessed it... zip.

Even had a dream about an invasion of rabid flesh-eating barnacles invading down town Houston - "Attack of the Large Space Barnacles!" (certificate PG). No clues there either :(

Only have 15 hours left on the mission timer so looks like they're not going to get their sample from me.

Wherever they are, they're well hidden.

Or not implemented :/ ... See guys that's why I say we need clues and that's one of the reasons silent pact left us ( not being mad just saying ) i also finished my investigation on the Orion Nebula and VY CANIS MAJORIS :) I'm in Turir now taking a break

Can anyone who got the meta alloys mission remember what faction is was for, and who they were aligned to?

Been camping at Ovid for a week, and it hasn't come up, wondered if being allied to the right faction made a difference

Meta-Alloys are implemented. There would not be missions if ther weren't. I suspect we will find them in regular POIs.

Going by the spawn rate of UA convoys and 1.3 free floaters, I think we can rule out the central Pleiades region.
No other region can be ruled out yet.

What we need is a lucky roll of the rng dice, like with the free floaters.

AhAhAhAhAh! It looks like that? :D I'm not an exploration expert AT ALL, really :D
On the contrary, I am elite in Combat, because I always liked PvP and Combat in general, before all this UA madness started, and I was doomed forever :D
So I must admit, it's an UA fault if I'm now involved in some kind of real, true exploration :D
The Unknown Artefact changed my game-play-style forever. I didn't know anything about morse as well, before this: and now someone calls me an expert about MORSE :D The true is that I've LEARNED to decode it because of the UA! ;)

So, in short, if you want to become Elite in Exploration: don't do like me! :D

That said, I don't think that the Meta-Alloys require any rank: in fact the related mission DO NOT require any rank. I know of Mostly Harmless CMDRs who accepted it.
So, if the mission requires no rank, the Meta-Alloys MUST be the same.
