Pedals... worth it?

There's lots of cool accessories to this game: sticks, throttles, peddles, head tracking, VR headsets, flight seats etc.

none of those accessories give you any real advantage however. If your good with mouse+keyboard, make custom bindings and a couple macros, your set up is just as combat effective as someone with HOTAS, head tracking and the whole nine yards.

basically what I'm saying is that you should only buy peripherals to the game if you have money to blow, and you think the extra equipment is going to enhance your fun.

If you are buying pedals because you think it'll make you better, you're most likely going to be disappointed. If you buy pedals because you think it would be cool and fun to use, then go for it.

i just twist the joystic. used to use pedals but now i find i twist the joystic automatically any way so peddals are just sending the same signal at the same time so its a bit supurfluous.

I started this game with the same HOTAS as the OP,
the twist is perfect for the yaw and you need that for pinpoint module sniping, especially with railguns.
Since i got my own simpit, i switched to a Warthog, now i use the pedals for yaw and it works aswell.

If you don't want to upgrade your stick (mine had the first defects after 6 months full of combat and piracy)
you shouldn't spend the money on the pedals in my opinion.
But whatever suits you.

Just got a pair of CH Pedals. I've got mine setup with the yaw controls and also thrust forwards/backwards on the toes. Works fine.
I used to use a button on my joystick and whilst this is better, it's not really justifiable for ED (IMO).

However, I also play DCS and am trying to learn to pilot a Huey in that and in for that purpose, the pedals are MASSIVELY better.

I find the standard Yaw axis on pedals (CH here) a bit 'clunky', so I end up blocking them and binding both Toe Brakes to one axis which I then use for Yaw. Although it sounds weird, I also use this same Toe-Brake Yaw axis for steering in the SRV, which allows me to use the Joystick for Pitch/Roll when driving and also turret control (so I can keep driving and turret-aiming with total control).

I use the micro-analogue stick on the CH Throttle for vertical and lateral thrusters.

This is how i got it to work mr.Gr3y:

- unbind the DX Axis A1 and A2 from your CM Device 1 to 'none'. ignoring this will result in conflicts. (pic 1)
- use formula in script: CMS.A1 = 128 + (JS1.A2/2) - (JS1.A1/2);
- Assign DX Axis in CMS Controls to virtual device for Axis 1 to Y Axis (pic2)
- Test Control Manager Device 1 in calibration: both pedals should move along the y axis now (pic3)
- Download to device, start game and assign lateral thrust axis

In principle, I agree that ship capabilities are clearly no different.
However, I'm conscious of the ease that a full setup makes things. For example, you're in combat, changing target, whilst disabling FA, changing velocity to say slow down to avoid running into the back of an enemy. Doing multiple actions very quickly really is easier (at least for me), with everything with dedicated buttons that are easy to hand.
I've even stopped using voiceattack, as whilst really good, wasn't 100% reliable, when compared to a HOTAS.

Finally it's working, thanks again! :)
Seems it's only showing the correct settings in test/calibrate when you load the map via CH Control center and not via Control Manager.
