I dont mind. maybe not barnacles sorry that's my bad but didnt mb or db say that the answer is right under our noses. it was a while ago before horizons landed i think. just trying to thing outside the box a bit.
like i said earlier im desperately looking for something UA todo that doesn't involve landing on plants as i cant. and have 5 weeks off work due to broken hand.

Do it like i do (though i have Horizons, but i despise the SRV).
Grab yourself a combat ship, check out U.S.S.es Distress Calls, Salvage sites and S.S.S.es,
scan ships for cargo, note any distinct radio chatter and try to find new random events.

((If your health allows. Get well soon lad!))

I don't think the future of the UA story will be planetside only.

It's funny that the planet Obsidian Orbital orbits happens to tick a whole load of possible boxes for Barnacle activity.
1. It's HOT (1088K = 815 Celsius)
2. It's in Maia (one of the frequently suggested possible locations)
3. It's a 100% metal planet (though I don't think this is necessarily a habitat for them, a lot of people have been thinking along those lines)
4. It looks so alien:

The problem is I've searched it for hours and hours and found nothing at all, but that still doesn't mean they aren't there... I might have another look since it's one of my favorite planets anyway.

Very carefully chosen words. Didn't admit or deny he did a server side fix/tweak didn't admit anything.

We'll find out soon though. If someone finds some in the next week we'll know it was fixed.

Barnacles attach to ships, I've driven all round my Conda and I can cross that off the 'nope' list, think next is to search some ground bases to see if any are growing/forming there...

Well, technically speaking you can only say that at this time you have found no evidence of any barnacles attached to your ship. ;)

Not true, unless there was a release earlier this morning immediately prior to his post!

I really hate this kind of negative view, it is seriously disrespectful and straight up rude towards the creators of this game.
Why is it so hard to believe they are just hard to find?
And why is it if someone finds it in the next week it'll somehow prove there was a change made??

This amounts to nothing but complaining and is completely unwanted. Best keep the conspiracies in game.

Good morning everybody.

This is the first concrete thing I'm reading in the last 200 posts :D
The number of UA needed to shut down a station could be strongly linked to UA demand in that system, indeed.

Jmanis, you cannot check UA demand in your system, because it has no commodities market, right? ;)

That said, we must also remember that we sell UA to the Black Market, not the official market, so we don't know if the two are linked somehow. I doubt it. But who knows?

Wouldn't UA demand only show up at the black market anyway... and ony if you were carrying a UA.

I agree, it is a promising idea and I would check it out myself if I wasn't 9000ly away, and I don't think my second account (bought recently in the sale) has the credits to fund a trip to the UA shell atm (not for safely transporting a UA at least)

Which released version though? Vanilla or Horizons.

Presumably. Horizons. The alloy mission is a surface one after all.

It's just so nice to have a good and respectful debate here, there are so many other debates which are coloured by a poisonous language.
And I'm just happy that we're on the same page here all of us.

Thanks to all of you gents & ladies, we're a big warm happy family of nerds.

The Frontier forums are LITERALLY the only forum that I have encountered that is actually nice. Rather than being filled with immature little brats that only know how to insult people, for example: The Bungie.net forums (Destiny)

I wuv it here!

The intention of the 2nd question is to estimate the definition of "exceedingly rare". Considering we have billions of star systems and the UA only spawns in a few thousand of them I would call that exceedingly rare. But possibly it means even rarer than that, maybe on the same level with the UA convoys.

MB described the UA as "exceedingly rare" when UAs were only available through the Military Convoys : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141038&p=2179457&viewfull=1#post2179457 (back in May)

TBH I think now I would describe UAs as exceedingly common.

May RAXXLA smile upon you!
Good luck and reinforced bulkheads!

Oh and don't forget to keep some recording software ready,
if available, in case you want to vid-document some events.

Talked yesterday with Patau, maybe there soon is a bounty
on the "meta alloy" ;)

That feeling comes from the knowledge where to find 'em.
They still are not that common, as reflected by the black market price.

This it true.

And to be honest I have not grabbed any for a while so I do not really know (I still have one squirelled away from way back)

It was just the Galactic Intern thing where 30 odd UAs were exploded just for the hell that I thought, aye these things aren't hard to find anymore! =p

There was a time when the whole Canonn had only one, anything we did was a risk.

It is all relative though I suppose, I mean the meta-alloy description says they are common in certain parts so yeah, MB's comment can possibly be interpreted in lots of ways depending how you frame it. I should not make assumptions.

A few pages back (OK, maybe now it's more than a few o_O), someone was asking how the UA 'drew' the pictures, so I thought I'd add grid-lines to the old UA Morse drawing tool to make it a bit more self-explanatory.

I made the changes to the last version of RedWizzard's modifications to my initial tool I had on hand, and then got a bit carried away modifying the stylesheet...

Hopefully there haven't been any major changes since I last downloaded it, and I wonder if the pre-sets are the latest cleanest decodings. Also, I suspect there are new ships that need to be added? I recall the Cobra MkIV had the same drawing as the MkIII.

Anyway, I present the UA Morse drawing tool v0.3b: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/99992395/ua_draw3.html

Please PM me any additions/corrections/bugs.

What i can tell for sure,
is that the UA has a galactic average price of roughly 330k creds on the black market.
All the other rares speculated to "be necessary to build an ua" (Dark wheel distribution theory)
were about 120k creds, as is the new item "scientific samples".
I am not sure on the market price of "Hafnium" however.

I think we can take those market prices as a rule of thumb to determine the rarity,
and maybe relevance to the upcoming UA-story arc.

OMG!
I found a Barnacle!!!!!
It was right under my nose!
...TBH...
...it was "inside"...

Now it's "attached" under my desk...

Isn't that one a subspecies of the space-barnacle,
being based on silicon (silicium)?

You got the wrong alloy mate:D

That's AWESOME Anjin!
I have all the other ship drawings. I'll post them later, but if you search the thread you'll find a few of them already...

They don't want to give away too much. It isn't disrespectful. I'm still willing to bet there was some sort of error. No conspiracy.

Its the same as someone not confirming or denying anything. They don't want to spoil it by giving any information at all.

I'm still willing to bet he tweaked the numbers up or made some sort of adjustment.

Too many people are interested in this for him to allow all of us to waste our time.
