SO Occulus Rift sales start tomorrow 6th of januar: who is getting one?

You dont as it breaks Immersion! All VR games Need specific VR Controllers.. in the case of Elite you use HOTAS as in the game th epilots Hands are on the HOTAS as well and mimic all your moves for total Immersion!

I keep hearing about HOTAS but I also have no idea what that is. Lol
I'm probably far from the best experience for ED. I'm sat on the floor, with my keyboard on my lap, usually sliding off, using and Xbox-pc gamepad in front of a TV. It's about as un-immersive as possible.
Lol I miss owning a desk.

Nice, explain why I'm an idiot.
Use small words, in case you're correct.
Best to ignore.

The choice to not purchase something because of your reservations regarding the parent company is totally valid and not stupid.

I may disagree with you, but I'm sure you have your reasons.

I did not even know it was this soon Oo

Will probably end up getting them but, the consumer ones, wherever I see someone testing them they have those awfull looking headphones on them, I haven't spent as much as I have liking good quality sound to have those in the way, and whilst probably removable, they look quite solid ><

Will also probably end up getting the vive as well, used to own the Oculus DK 1 and it was quite the experience, aside of getting ill and the lower resolution.

They've stated those are fully removable.

I think people should be careful as Obsidian stated. If you are getting the Oculus primarily for ED, they may not be supporting their current SDK at this time. Check the newer adverts for ED and at the end you see vive support and no mention of Oculus.

HOTAS is the flight stick and throttle combos. (Hands On Throttle And Stick)

Thanks for sharing, I will probably wait until I can see the specs (no pun intended). Then I'll wait until the second production run once many of the inevitable issues have been addressed.

apart from it probably not working with ED? It's enough for me to hold off until that warm spud is sorted out, or go looking elsewhere.

I have Dk1 and not impressed. The release rift isn't going to be much better. Nvidia said gaming pc needs to be 7 times more powerful than currently to play vr games with good resoultion and acceptable frame rates and i agree.

I have a question about VR headsets.

Does using one mean you'd have to up your system-specs' a bit, versus someone who's just playing on a single monitor like myself?

I'm curious.

Keep telling yourself that. It will be better but not anywhere close to acceptable. Lots of users are going to be miserable using it. Most will toss it in the closet after getting nauseous due to the low framerate the other will hate the terrible resolution. Computing power in gaming pc just isnt there yet. If you think otherwise tell Nvidia they don't know what they are talking about.

I might get one, but won't be first in the pre-order queue.
I pre-ordered the DK2 and was impressed - though not to the extent some were.
I was not at all happy with the Facebook takeover and I think after almost two years we can see that it did not stimulate this influx of super high tech components and genius developers. It has improved in a predictable, slightly underwhelming way over a longer period of time than we expected back then. Meanwhile it has been matched by at least one other product - so there's either a lot more cash and geniuses out there than I thought, or we aren't seeing the benefits.

Anyway that probably sounds a bit more negative than it's intended. I will certainly by one of the release VR headsets. I will probably by a Vive. I might buy both. So that leaves a reasonably chance that I'll buy a rift. Whatever I get, it won't be on release but when nVidia release their next generation cards, at which point I will build a new machine for VR.

I certainly recommend anyone who hasn't tried it but who does have the freedom to play with a headset do so. It's a whole new level for Elite and other games that support it well.

Well with VR you are Rendering the game on two Screens.. basically leaving you with half the Performance of your Card...

SLI VR will make it so that if you have two Cards in your PC one renders one Screen exclusively... making SLI more powerful than currently when they both work on Rendering one Screen together...

So best to get a second Card of whatever you are sporting now...

It is alreadyy amazing on DK2!! So I dont believe anything you say... CV1 is way better than DK2 so all the reasons for me to get it! Oh and I have two 980s one for each Screen - fps will be fine!

This anti-zucker/facebook is just so utterly stupid. Palmer told me that deal meant no longer having to search for old scraps. Custom made parts throughout. Facebook is a powerful global brand to help deliver Oculus to the masses.

But the internet is full of utterly pointless crusades and this is just another example of ill-informed people jumping to conclusions and jumping on a bandwagon just to look cool.
