I guess most people will not preorder but waiting for the announcement of the SteamVr and its price.
If the straw pool at http://strawpoll.me/6465775/r is anywhere close (small sample and internet based to boot), then you are correct in that a lot of people are waiting.
I think people have not pre-ordered because the price is higher than they were expecting, not because they are waiting i.e. for the Vive.
Our Canadian dollar is really crappy right now. 1.43CAD = 1USD right now
Facebook (and other major corps) like to put their payment transactions through Ireland for tax reasons. I'll bet they are distributed from the UK, when available.Like Granite said, there is quite a bit of a cynical market markup in price for the UK and Europe when it is being distributed from Ireland.
The official ISO 3166 codes for countries, list Canada as CA. The vast majority of the world support this standard. Only one country tends to ignore it for their own convenience.Oh, you meant Canada! I was thinking California. Doh!
The good news is that there may be 20% import duty/VAT when it lands in the UK also. Yay...... errrm, not.
But on the plus side, neither my DK1 or 2, got caught for VAT iirc, but I'd have to check that. My memory is a bit fuzzy.
Why are so many people surprised at the price tag for the CV1? This isn't a cardboard box you stick your phone in after all, this is all high tech toys, cutting edge high tech toys at that. The DK1 and DK2 were cheap as hell because they aren't consumer ready, they were developer kits after all, early prototypes, with a big difference between the 1 and 2 according to all the people who have both, so what did you expect with the actual final consumer version?
They've stated many times that the price wasn't going to be as low as they'd hoped, that it would be higher than the DKs, that it was going up, it was costing more than they wanted...no one noticed any of that? Hell, I don't have a DK and I was keeping up with all of that, why weren't you folks who are already invested keeping up with it?
And the Vive, cheaper than the CV1? Excuse me, I've got some GREAT stock investment advice for you, just send me your CC info, I'll get you all set up!
Whatever you folks are drinking/smoking/imbibing, stop, now, please. The Vive should be $200-400 USD more than the CV1, HTC has been pushing it as the PREMIUM VR set, not the cheap VR set. It ships with 2 position trackers, not 1, and it will include the 2 controllers, custom made for the Vive, as well. And lets not forget that super special high tech camera in the front that pushed back release for months! And some of you think it will be LESS than the CV1? The Premium VR set, yeah, I'm sure it'll be a lot cheaper than the CV1...uh huh....and yes, you can take that A spec'd combatConda with your stock Sidey, no problemo boss!
Can't speak for others, but I'm surprised for several reasons:Why are so many people surprised at the price tag for the CV1?
We have different definitions of 'should'.The Vive should be $200-400 USD more than the CV1
According to Palmer Luckey on Twitter the international prices are based on a direct currency conversion plus all applicable taxes, hence why the UK is 499 and not 410, I guess.

If it includes VAT/duty, then it's a pretty good price imho if it's £410 ex.
