Asking for advice on how to avoid the scans.
Prior to the new mission system - that would make it pre-Horizons - smuggling was pretty easy. You just evade or avoid the interdictions and then at the station go silent and run in - or if it was a platform then no scans happened and so you just went in as normal.
Now, however, it seems to be different. I tried my first smuggling mission last night and got scanned. No problem - it was just a fine and the payment well and truly covered it. But still, it was irksome and I hate paying fines (in RL too!). Here's how it unfolded (I'll try to be brief).
In SC heading towards station - intercept a comms call from the cops about smuggling operation detected - darn, they are on to me! OK - evasive maneuvers and I avoid an interdiction. Cool, I think, now as I drop from SC all I have to do is my usual modus operandi to enter station and I am done - what a cool dude I am! Um - not! As soon as I drop I get the "scan detected" message! Damn! And I am not even in the station's space yet so these are not the usual station cops. So I go silent thinking this will break the scan - but no! 11,000 credit fine.
So how do you break a scan? There must be a way because otherwise, in this scenario, there is no escape and that means, long term, you can really do nothing to avoid them and so being a successful smuggler becomes purely a matter of chance and there is no skill involved. To me, that breaks the concept of ED. Up to this point in my various careers I have always been able to get better at something by becoming more skilled at it. Is smuggling different?
