Missions are working as expected

Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here...

This may be an unpopular view, and is solely my own, but after playing the new mission system extensively for the past week, I think they are working better for me than in 1.4.

Initially, after installing 1.5, I wondered where all the missions had gone - and was disappointed to see the kill x pirate missions were reduced as these were the ones I liked doing the most. But after the initial shock of change, now that I've been flying around a few different stations in a few different systems, I've noticed I'm getting a steady stream of interesting missions in different flavours. A few assassinations, couple of militia contracts, some charity missions, couple of kill pirates... and I've just been picking off a few of these (missions) whilst I do other things in the game.

Perhaps if missions were my sole focus I would be peeved, but as I tend to do them as the mood strikes (i.e. whenever I spot one that's interesting enough), the new system seems to be working fine for that. And in the past couple of days I moved my federal rank by nearly 30% just nitpicking missions.

And now I quite like that only a handful of missions display each time, rather than the 20 or so in the previous release. It feels a little more realistic and generates a little more interest and excitement whenever I see one that takes my fancy.

Now, there are still some issues: Missions generating that I can't complete for instance, because I am currently playing on a Mac laptop with no access to planetary landings. But I wonder if this is because my commander has also played in Horizons (as that is what I have installed on the PC at home)? So perhaps somewhere in my account Horizons access is recorded. And there are still some awful bugs (a 'deserter' that I was meant to terminate suddenly became a 'pirate lord' in the mission alternative and then wouldn't complete).

I'd still like to see missions pay out a little more too. But now I see them as supplementary to other activities rather than being my sole activity in the game.

The only 'kill x pirate' missions I've seen since the 'nerf' are utterly ridiculous and I haven't bothered with them since. I don't see any value in a mission that wants me to kill 100 pirates for a million credits or less. Unless it happens to coincide with a CG, there's no real incentive to take it when there are other missions that pay better.

Another discovery: "Above and beyond" missions boost your naval rank percentage by 8% . Just took two of these suckers in short succession

I'm waiting for the hostage rescue missions to be fixed.

I have a ship specially kitted out for them. Now I'm just waiting for the day I can actually complete one.

Hopefully that day will be next week sometime.

Uhm you do realise its perfect when you are bounty hunting anyway?...reward + bounty is not something to sneeze at :p

I've found that when I've taken a "go kill 76 pirates next door" type mission, the game just keeps throwing low bounty Eagles, Cobra's and Sidewinders at me rather than the usual mix up of those and some FDL's, Anaconda's, Pythons etc... It's almost as if the game knows you're going to be killing a large number of pirates in a relatively short time and doesn't want you to make too much on bounties ;)

A smaller list is fine. But it would be better if what you were offered was rellevant to you in some way. e.g. your ship is kitted for trading, so you get offered more tradign missions. Or you have a reputation for killing innocents, so you get offered lots of killing innocents type missions.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I took one of those 'meet person X in system Y for further instructions' missions last night, despite my knowing it would probably not end well. Sure enough, I gave up after 15 minutes of searching for the NPC. :)

Mission grinding for rep is horrid. Will take months to get where I want to be with the empire rank system. Mission rep gameplay is horrid, and I find myself just logging into the game long enough to spam a few donation missions, then logging out for a while. I used to have great fun playing, but the changes to missions etc. was a slap in the face. I bought Horizons, now I feel obligated to at least get some of my investment back in the grind time sink.

Thanks for the Great Graphics FD, you need to fire your gameplay leader though.

Sometimes you have to wait up to an hour for the mission to update. Then it should give you more details like an exact time when they'll be in system.
It's not exactly clear that you have to wait for any amount of time which is frustrating a lot of players currently.

Might I suggest the title be "Missions are now more enjoyable" instead? It's very clear that missions are not "working as intended". They are very buggy, as you noted yourself.

I actually waited 2.5 hrs one time before the mission updated and showed me the time to meet the POC. That's one reason I don't take those missions anymore. Not many people have 2.5 hrs to wait around, and since we have NO indication of how long we might have to wait, it's just safer to avoid these missions...in addition to the POC not showing up of course. :(

Once I found the PoC in the system... but he just flew around, and didn't drop into a wake or anything. I interdicted him, he said something like "what gives?" and kept flying in a straight line. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Some of the new missions are genuniely really cool, but nearly all of them are broken in major (can't complete) or minor (bad timing or location info) ways. It's been very aggravating.

Doesn't the mission usually tell you the time to meet? The one last night said between 11:25 - 11:55 IIRC. and he was there at the appointed time. Is there perhaps some confusion about what the time indicated is meaning? Just asking. It is an absolute time I think - not a time before or how long to wait.

Agreed. I missed the 'for me' at the end of the title lol

Can't change it now though.

Not always. Sometimes it just says to go to a certain system and find the dude or dudette.

I would like to counter this. Try a few different types of missions.

The haulage missions (titled "Above and beyond" or something like that) give very good naval rank %. I went up by 50% in one day.
