Oculus SDK 0.8 + Horizons 64bit + Win 7 64bit + SteamVR = Formula for success finally!

Hmm, didn't work for me. Even with a custom Nvidia Resolution setup for 1920x1080 75hz it doesn't show up as an option in the graphics options menu, still only goes to 60hz.

Wolfox, what is the purpose of using VorpX? Just curious. Isn't that for games that don't natively support VR or are you using it to be able to record?

I have win7 and VorpX, just testing. In this way I can leave the SDK0.8. I avoid swapping SDK's
It can work with does that support and don't support, in this case Elite doesn't support SDK0.8 and VorpX does what SteamVR is doing to play Elite.

No you are missing the point Cylon, this is a consolidated How-To thread with SPECIFIC details. Not 10,000 posts of bits and pieces that you have to read every post to get the instructions. This thread is all about ending those monster posts. It was formatted to be used a sticky until SDK1 sorts things out.

---

Besides, does text on a screen cost you money now? Don't click on the thread if you are not interesting.

Mods, can we tidy this thread up a bit to keep it on topic and keep the useless and un-wanted off-topic banter out of it?

Thanks

IMO, they're unlikely to sticky something that is considered to be unsupported and that could break at anytime and become useless. There is no new info in this thread just more duplication. If posted in any other sub forum here on Frontier this thread would have been merged, locked or deleted.

While I understand the good intentions when creating this thread there really is no excuse for this level of duplication and repeat topics on just one subject.... I understand the excitement but there is a search feature that should be getting some use.

Sifting through the thread list (at the time of my OP) to find any real news or interesting VR posts is very irritating when its littered with duplicate threads like this one.

Well I gotta admit, that was the first time I've had to use the "Ignore user" button on this forum but thank goodness for it.

How childish, get criticized for creating duplicate threads / content and then throw your toys out of the pram... No loss for me mind you, I am not in the market for a parrot or the mess one evidently leaves.

Hello guys,

first of thanks Thorvald for the tutorial. I couldn't get the DK2 running on Win 10 without your guide.

I'm using a R9 Nano, which is a smaller Version of the ATI Fury card. The Nano gives me wonderful performance in regular gameplay without the DK2. But it seems too weak for VR, since i can barely play on lowest settings without studder in stations and near to planet surfaces. I set my monitor and the ingame settings to 1024x768 and 75Hz.

My question is, what performance can I expect of a Nvidia 980Ti OC with the DK2? Would I be able to use 1,5 or even 2 times supersampling, and could I switch to high/ultra settings without studder in stations and on planets?

Edit: CPU is i7 6700K and 16 GB of 2400 MHz ram. OS is Win10 64 bit.

Do me a favour, and put me on your ignore list.

Thanks in advance

What for BIGDuke? Why would I want to ignore you? Surely if BIGDuke does not like my post(s) it would be BIGDuke putting me on BIGDuke's ignore list - no?

At present I have no need nor desire to do such a thing to BIGDuke, BIG buddy - old pal... I mean I love your avatar (who doesn't?) and the fact you are "Dangerous"... gets me every time... I'm all giddy now... Put it this way; It would be very inappropriate of me to stand up at present, let alone express my true thoughts.

NB. I think you just failed at trying to look big, clever or cool on the Interwebs... But I still like your avatar all the same.

Food for thought: DK is short for Duke.

Hello, your Nano is more than capable of running Elite with DK2 at high graphics preset. There's something wrong with your setup :/

THIS IS MY 3DMARK RESULT. Download the benchmark, run it. If your result are higher you won't have any problems, above 10000 in that test is a good playing RIG.
Bare in mind that now we are all trying configurations to bypass the fact that elite doesn't support the recent SDK0.8. if you install SDK0.5 you will be flying around without any issue, but then you might loose the possibility to Play 90% of the demos available.
SDK0.8 is Muuuuuuch more performing than the SDK0.5, if Elite will switch to 0.8 I think everything will be butter smooth!

Ok. Do you have an idea, what might be the Problem? I'm using the latest driver 16.1, because they finally fixed the supercuise bug.

Like i said, without DK2 everything in ED runs fine. I even get a very good 3DMark result.

Thanks for your 3D Mark results! When i run the test, I'm getting a score of 13732 (http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/10234496?).

I will try to roll back the SDK to 0.5. I tried 0.6 in the beginning, but i was getting an error during installation. Maybe a Windows 10 issue.

I can't get 0.5 or 0.6 working. During installation i get the following error:

oculus error.jpg

Any ideas what could be wrong with my 0.8 setup, that I'm getting such a poor performance in ED ?

I think this is a very valuable thread about .8 and steamvr

Please don't post about .5 or .6 in it though :p

NO please reread my comment in detail. SteamVR works VERY well when its aligned and running right, I have many hours of immersive ED now in .8 SteamVR Win7.
Please try the alignment check, redo the SteamVR config etc. I did PREVIOUSLY have your exact problem but it corrected when I sorted all this out.
Go through the steps I listed again and I think you'll be rewarded.

Thanks for the reply Telc. I did follow all your steps, but couldnt get to full immersion. What did the trick however - and I came across that just by accident - was to run the SteamVR tutorial and keep it in the background when starting ED. Doing so gets me into full immersion mode every time. I don't know why! As you noted recentering is then easy - I just pressed F12 and everything was fine! Happy Happy!!!

There are minor or no issues with SDK0.5, I would not worry, but at the same time, I would keep, gently , out win10 users, !!

Excellent! Elite in VR is so amazing when it works that its super frustrating when it doesn't.

A few things I didn't write that might help -

1. I click the SteamVR button in the top of the steam window to launch the SteamVR miniwindow before I do anything.

2. I note that both the headset and one of the tracking boxes should show green as the SteamVR sees the Oculus devices.

3. I launch via "run elite in steamvr mode" menu item.

4. I always exit the Elite Launcher when I'm done so that its a full launch when I start again.

Cheers
