I wonder if the Barnacle hunt is actually a sort of dry-run. Firstly, to check the level of interest in such a hunt (and it's high!). And secondly, to check our search-rate. Assuming we find something, the length of time it takes will give them a rough indication of how long it takes us to scan (even randomly) a given number of planets.

Which they can put to use in any future alieny search.

Well, I thought about this "Section PR5, row 2, seats 5 and 6" and ended up going to "Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-5" and "Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-6" I thought this would be it because PR5 = "Pleiades SectoR" with the 5 being the V, C2 = row 2, etc. I also noted that if you look at the Pleiades nebula from Earth these systems are in a perfect position above it to view all of the nebula.

Barnacles found = 0.

Hi guys, as a reminder - please use imgur.com and embed with the IMG bbcode or use the inline attachments system for attaching images/media. (edit: you could also use the [imgur]AlbumID[/imgur] to embed that sort of media as well!)

Images that are clicked and dragged into the WYSIWYG text editor will cause the media to be malformed, and causes vBulletin to default the encoding to base64 to nearly all of the post content. Which isn't pretty to look at, and does cause issues with loading pages.

Thanks for understanding and happy hunting. ;)

It finally just happened. I was on my to a couple of blinking lights (containers) in Pleione 6 and my SRV just out of nowhere exploded. I don't think I was low on fuel it just up and exploded for no reason.... Are some of these places mined? I thought I remember reading mines are in game now.

Also how do I get another SRV first one that goes boom on me.

I blew up and my game crashed on Pleione 6 earlier and there are many people reporting stuff on that planet on reddit as well like crashing when inside of a POI's.

This is the clue we've been looking for. The answer is in here somewhere....

Just on MB's recent comment :

I'm no astronomer so am theorizing here about something I know very little about..

Is MB's stated association of nebula and barnacles actually direct, or is it indirect?

The Pleiades nebula has a bunch of blue (b class) stars.

As in, is the occurrence of these types of stars correlated with nebula, meaning the barnacles could be more to do with the properties of the star (and hence the planets) than the nebula as such, the nebula just being a likely side-effect of the type of star?

Been googling to see if b class stars and nebula are correlated, found this not sure if it's actually true though. =p

So perhaps.... Some older blue star have ejected rich elements, often this will result in a nebula.
IRL nebula and Pleiades are not linked directly. Pleiades just fly through this nebula. It is reflection nebula, not a star remnant nebula. However we are not irl.

The article you have found is about Wolf-Rayet stars.
These rich elements are used by barnacles in the production of meta-alloy.

Blue stars + nebula being an indicator of an environment suitable for placing a meta-alloy production facility?
It's very hard to extract material from nebula because it's very sparse. Material probably will not fall to planets because of strong solar wind from B-type star. You need a big spacecarft to collect material. It's much more easy to extract needed materials from a planet.

Why nebulas? They attract explorers and give you light at nighttime. You can hide something very big and bright in big and bright nebula. What else?

Alright lunch break over, heading back to work.

Careful at Obsidian.. not sure what is going on with the system but it is pretty much a warzone. I got interdicted twice on the way over to the station, once the creeper threw me into the star right after jumping in the system. There are also active firefights going on within the no-fire zone between commanders and really pesky NPCs who officially declared open season on all the explorers.

If you're unarmed you better be good on the controls.

out.

I have spent all day searching Maia B1 BA. I have gone through at least 5 SRV fuel refills. I haven't found :):):):), but what does happen is the game will randomly crash to desktop for no apparent reason. With the amount that I have been searching I feel as if the crash is related to barnacles. As if there is some sort of bug that makes you ctd when RNGesus comes up with a barnacle POI. Basically, with the crashes, and the sheer amount of area we need to cover with no real clues. I pretty much want to give up.

Can someone please direct me to the origin of that Sector PR 5 Seat 5 and 6 hint?
Where does it come from and why is it important?
