UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Its from the Lovecraft mythos, the elder god that lives in Pleiades:

Stellar regions where the star Celaeno is located. The Pleiades are also mentioned as the stellar abode of the Great Old One Gtuhanai, and the mysterious alien race, known as the Aartna, as well

Celaeno is one of the seven stars of the Pleiades. On its fourth planet is the Great Library of Celaeno, which houses stone tablets containing secrets stolen from the Great Old Ones and Elder Gods. Professor Laban Shrewsbury spent some time here, transcribing the library's knowledge in his notebook—a manuscript that would later be known as the Celaeno Fragments.

One day this thread will be extensively studied by scientists researching Apophenia

:D

Definately a good source of material - and thanks for educating, I learned a new word for the phenomenon I've known for a long time ;)

He also said if you were at their coordinates you'd definitely see them (a where). He didn't say that it would have to be dark (a when).

We're taking a lot from the trailer, and let's face it if you were putting a scene together like that you'd want it dark and spooky. Doesn't mean they're always in the dark though.

This is exactly what I think about the trailer. Too much interpretation. The trailer is for potential new costumers and surely not meant to be a hidden message for a few players. They put some real effort in placing the suns for example.

But where to continue? The thing that bugs me is MB quote "And to those asking why nebulae - it's quite logical if you think about it :)". And I ask myself: Why is this so logical????!?!?

I feel to silly - the UA ate parts of my brain.

Bumping my original post as I dont think it was seen =)

Hello all, I have been lurking around this thread as well as the Pleiades and have a couple of thoughts, Given that MB has said we can check nebulae for these, has anyone given much thought to checking a different kind of nebula as the Pleiades is a planetary nebula and right in the galactic backyard is Barnards loop which is a star forming nebula. Heavier Elements should be formed in the pleiades and really basic elements are formed in star forming nebulas. In short what I'm thinking is can the barnicles metabolise the lighter material into heavier materials? Just a couple of thoughts from an amateur astronomer.

Out of everything he's said I do think we're missing something there (stating that nebulae are a logical location if we think about it), unless he's simply pointing out that it's a good place for such an lifeform to feed as there is all the gas and space dust knocking about. The rest is all going a bit nuts with ice rinks, specific Gs for worlds, fog, darkness, tidally locked planets, biscuits and the Tea-Squirrel entity that seems to be hoarding its snacks all over the galaxy.

I've read it, but it's hard to reply always to the same questions... ;)
Did you read the FrontPage? There are STRONG reasons why we are searching in the Pleiades Nebula, first.

It's the only place where we are sure some Barnacles have been manually placed by FD. Searching other nebulas will leave you with the RNG generated only.

That said, some are already being scoured however.

Definitely worth a look, go for it!

MB has said there are some placed in the Pleiades though which is why so much time is being spent there.

Everything here gets read, don't worry :)

the short answer to your question is yes, a number of different nebula have been looked at. All though none as thoroughly as the Pleiades area. The focus has also been around teh Maia area due to the station there, the UAs being in the area, and becaue MB used the word "Especially"

The long answer is feel free to go look yourself.

Edit: NINJADDDD

Sorry I'm rather keen guys, Spending quite some time on it. Currently on my way to the witch head, gonna have a quick scout around there then onto orion as well. Orion is another one of interest to me as he persued the pleiades in greek mythos. Will also check for a Shell.

Edit : Then onto the loop.
