General / Off-Topic Call for a system or planet to be called 'ZIGGY' as a memorial to David Bowie.

David Bowie was a legend, a music icon who inspired and motivated others. He brought joy and happiness with his music. He challenged the boundries of what was socially acceptable as far as your image goes. I could type out words for a hundred years and still not pay enough tribute to the man. I was am a fan of him and his music and I am shocked at his passing.

+1 from me, I think a tribute/memorial would be well deserved and I would have to go pay my respects no matter where it was.

Please do it FD!

Well I am probably going to regret saying this but personally apart from one song, not going to miss the guy at all. Wall to wall coverage on BBC and SKY news seems a gross overreaction to someone who was hardly main stream and hardly in the top tier of public acceptance.
Do you not think that the reaction Bowie's death has received from so many diverse quarters invalidates your apparent annoyance at the amount of air time it is currently taking up?! For anyone who cares about music today is a big deal. Today we found out that one of the greats has passed on. Scrapheap Challenge or whatever it is will just have to take a backseat for awhile.

Always sad when someone dies but I think his elevation to the saint hood is premature.

The fact that this artist was a large influence on the music scene, as well as increasing awareness for gender diversity at a time when it could have destroyed lesser artists careers...speaks volumes about the type of person that David Bowie strove to be.

It is ok that you feel no sense of loss...and I do not wish to belittle you, or your lack of empathy and/or understanding. Just realize that there are some people that have been influential to others, offering those that have been marginalized a hope for a brighter future and for so many others some fantastic music and memories.

Major Tom. Starman. Ziggy Stardust. Life on Mars. Loving the Alien. Blackstar. I think he thought about space and isolation a fair bit.

Amazing man/artist/musician/muse. I go to bed tonight a sadder person than last night. :(

+1 for a station in his name.

Just leaving this here...fly safe everyone!

David Bowie deserves a big, huge and beatifull station named after him... "Space Station David Bowie", with NO FACTION controlling it... independent... as it should be.

And... to be absolutely perfect: the station should be playing "As the world falls down" :)

If the planet the station orbits has a moon, can we call it "Serious"?

"Let's dance to the song they're playin' on the radio

Let's sway you could look into my eyes
Let's sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight."

Couldn't agreed more to this petition.
PLEASE Frontier, Let us give some honorable place for David in this immense universe!!
VOTE, YES!

Given the variety of names that any memorial could be based on ... why not an entire system of bodies and stations. Do it with flamboyance, as he often did :) .

Not sure I agree that he doesn't warrant reverence for his musical, cultural and artistic accomplishments. However, I do agree that the level of coverage is absurd; the BBC in particular will decide that a story like this warrants wall to wall coverage when really it should be a prominent but limited news item and a separate programme in homage.

I think this is a good idea as a way for us Elite players to pay respect to David Bowie. I would suggest that it be in the form of a space station called David Bowie though. Much like Leonard Nimoy space station.

Seconded, the least they can do, remembering Pratchett and Nimoy (that I am aware of) and now Bowie too.

Well much to my surprise my heads not in my hands yet, although I do appear to be in a minority of one. The responses on the whole have been measured and sensible and the fact we don’t agree on Bowie's merits is just life.

I do think the coverage was disproportionate but that is quite common now as the 24hr news networks need to fill their day up with something.

As to the level of coverage being in some way commensurate with his value or loss. No you’ll not convince me of that, see above.

Also call me a cynic but I wonder often if the usual suspects actually got on social media to say something or is it their handlers are actually doing the job for them. Because they recognise its good publicity and the thing you need to do these days.

Anyway that’s my last word on the subject there are NPC’s to melt and I am looking forward to meeting Maj Tom.

I think the coverage, is calming down a bit. Like Princess Diana, the press etc, has gone OTT, but at the same time, David Bowie was an international icon. To some; a Rock-God and a major influence within the international music industry, for the past 50 years, kind of explains the coverage we have witnessed over the last two days. As I said, it is calming down and so two days is not a lot really.
