UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

someone is about to receive a warning from a moderator.

I don't think MB need to help us or clarify anything in any manner.

This search is taking long by design. You are complaining about days, this could take weeks or even months. Not for the faint of heart.

Wondering why CMDR H**** :):):):):):):)** is shooting down harmless ASP Explorers while camping in front of Obsidian Orbital....

Not naming or shaming.. but yeah from personal experience any offers of assistance from that particular individual should be promptly ran away from. As me and two science defenders learned the hard way.

Very interesting. I heard strange things on Merope 1B, not exactly the same though. I'm not convinced mine weren't some sort of "exploration music", even though I have all music turned off in options.

I'm exploring Merope 2A around the same area, and I'm hearing this faint but noticeable chirp sound that almost sounds like a query. With headphones on, if I turn my character head, the sound actually moves from ear to ear depending on where I'm looking and where my ship is oriented, so I don't think it's something in ship. Got close to the coordinates posted of 33.335, 161.685 and... CTD.

Let's do some science shall we, and figure out a bit for ourselves.
MB stated that they are pretty hard to ignore if you happen to come across one.
Let's not have everything written up in a FAQ for us.

One statement that has stuck with me (since Im venturing out into Nebulae outside Pleiades) is:

Nebulae are good places to look, especially the one with the seven sisters in it.

Michael

To me, I think it would also help if we figure out why the seven sisters is special for this.
1) Is it due to the UAs? Part of me wants to say yes, but part of me also wants to say that its just a coincidence the UAs point there (to merope), even more so since MB commented on that as well:
But the fact that these barnacles can be found in other nebulae, that more than one location has been hand placed, etc. proves that the UAs are not pointing at Merope because of the barnacles. The barnacles are another clue in the big puzzle, not the end of the puzzle. There is still no logical reason to focus the barnacle search in Merope. Every landable planet in the Pleiades has just as much chance of containing the hand placed fixed POI as the planets in Merope, and Merope has already been searched the most.
This is good thinking.
Michael
2) Or is it due to some special structure or presence within Pleiades? Amount of stars / type of stars? Specific planets found there not present in most other Nebulae? Location within the galaxy near to something else? Personally I'm now primarily scanning systems with Class B stars, which seem to be a bit more rare in the Nebulae I've visited versus K and Gs

We could even go as far as questioning why he mentioned the 7 sisters here, rather than just naming the Nebulae. Is it because theres mythology behind it, or he wants us to link it to something else we know / should know?

I've been at this for 4 days now and yeah.. I had some sort of hope we'd stumble upon it but not anymore.

Location being nebulaes/pleiades makes it impossible/highly improbable even with thousands looking for it every day for months.

This thread has turned into a theory/assumption fapping clusterfk and MB keeps coming in to clarify things that don't help at all.

We don't know what a barnacle really is.
We don't know what it looks like.
We have no clue on how to find it other than this massive region.

F this.
They don't ''want'' us to find it right now.
Once we have an ACTUAL clue, the efforts will be worth it.

GL guys.

Check out the ED: Horizons trailer - I believe there you can see what we are looking for in one of the scenes. I have just been flying around planets looking for stuff on the surface. So far it has just been small bases (blue lights) or a couple canisters of what I can only assume is tea. I imagine the barnacles will appear in the same way just more of a rare occurrence. Of course I don't know for sure but I'd say just keep your eyes peeled for anything that looks like a structure and has a green glow (since in the trailer there was a nice green glow on what I have been calling the "barnacles"). I definitely notice when something is on the planets surface too so I do not think it'll be a problem identifying a barnacle when we run into one.

How long did it take this lot to find the first UA, let alone work out what it even was or what to do with it? ;)

Staples center is a sports arena. that is why the CQC. It relates to this thread because a lot of people think it does. Whether they are correct or not is irrelevant.

Well, landed ship near these coordinates and got out in SRV, no chirping anymore. Must be something in ship that's picking something up, I guess.

You mean hope someone randomly happens across one, since the RNG ones are different from the static ones? Not sure how you equate luck to science. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time someone got lucky for a scientific discovery.

As per the "You're guarenteed to find one if you're in the right place", sure if you're at the place where one of the static ones are, I'm sure you'll find it. I'm asking about the RNG ones though.

I would like to think so, given the wave scanner points us to raw resource harvesting, I imagine Barnacles in the near future wont be so different with Meta-Alloys. If there's anything thats going to reflect or appear on our wave scanner, barnacles better bloody well.

Right, but that's an assumption. It would also explain why nobody has found one yet if they only drive to the various hits on the wave scanner in a POI. Maybe I missed it but are we sure they even show up as a purple/blue POI circle? Looking back at MB's responses everyone is assuming they will since he mentioned POI and that's how RNG POIs normally work, doesn't mean they all have to work the same way, hence the question.

Hi colleagues explorers. I think it would be justified if we point out to Frontier that it is impossible that we in 2016 have termo vision, night vision, photo Lens from which we can see a candle on the moon, but in 1000 year's from now we dont have any of theese and have to Look things Just by our own eyes. It is just unrealistic. If I think of searching for specific thing on the planet in 1000 year's from now i would geas that i do a scan of the planet and the AI is processing it and show me some interesting places. I dont know how it shield be implemented into the game but for 100 percent the future explorers wont be looking interesting stuff just by diving the car on the planet.
