Hey guys. If this has been answered already then I apologise.

Whats the closest station to Obsidian orbital that provides outfitting?

Thanks in advance

Goood morning Elephant's Trunk. Although its more of a pain in the ass to fly into a sunrise :(

One thing I noticed in the trailer, assuming this is a clue, we definitely have mist, but look at the sky... Dark. In Pleiades no matter what I'm on the sky is bright and colourful
Either we didn't have sky in the shot or the sky is dark. In s nebula that would be something like a dark region or coalsack?

Pleione 5A has good hidey-holes

Needed a break from the Pleione 4 green blobs and checked out pleione 5A. It has lots of what look like very good hidey-holes. I'm gonna spend some time checking out these misty canyons.

Distant Worlds Expedition

Good Morning CMDRs

I wanted to quickly take the opportunity to wish all those about to embark on the Distant Worlds Expedition godspeed and safe flying.

Many of the Canonn's most beloved compatriots and contributors will be risking life and credits to ensure our galaxy is better known and safer, and I for one am grateful and wish them well.

It's also been amazing to see some of Elite's most, erm, elite explorers and navigators joining the thread and the search recently, it's been a real honour. Sorry if it's been frustrating and overwhelming at times (those damned obstinate barnacles!) but watching you guys at work has been a real pleasure.

Good luck one and all.

Oh, one last thing for those CMDRs choosing to abbreviate the mission name- you might want to pick a different acronym as I'm afraid that the internet has already taken DWE (warning - language). Might well prove appropriate though :)

Just a little postcard I picked up at Obsidian Orbital to remember my "vacation" in the Pleiades....

Should have gotten a shot with Maia B in the background :p

There's some pretty good views of it on, uh, I forget the exact designation, but there's a moon of a gas giant around Maia B that also has a moon of its own. Might be able to get an interesting shot with a moon, of a moon, with a gas giant in the background, which orbits a black hole that is also in the background.

DAMN now I want to go take a picture myself o.o

Well my efforts towards distinguishing any patterns in planetary noise seem to have taught me nothing, and scouring the surface has proved fruitless, so for now I'm headed back to the bubble to search for clues in BB missions and local news. Maybe if I'm lucky enough to find a meta-alloy mission I'll return to this god forsaken nebula!

Good luck to all who remain on the surface and in the air!

Barnacle fatigue

So after about a week's searching I'm borderline giving up. Our "official" clues don't seem to be getting us anywhere, and the fact that no one has just stumbled upon one means the conditions must be quite specific - and that we're missing one very significant piece of information at least.

You are guaranteed to find them if you are in the right location
I did indeed say they are exceedingly rare - much rarer than UAs. ALthough unlike the UAs there are some that have been physically placed by us, although they are generated in certain areas of space.

You're guaranteed to find them, if you're in the right place. Yet they're exceedingly rare.
Are we to take from this that the specific conditions which will yield a barnacle spawn are exceedingly rare? If that's the case, our scouring of planets with no forethought beyond our assumptions/hunches is a waste of time.
What conditions within the Pleiades aren't common/are noteworthy? Are any of them remarkable enough (knowing what we know) to give us the confidence to linger for time x waiting/searching one?

Using Maia as an example (since it has a good variety of planet/moon types/surface temps/volcanism et cetera) using the planetary detail itself has yielded nothing, from A7 (2G, 1700K, High Metal (60/40), Silicate Vapour, tidally locked to star), to A2 A/B (0.3G, 1000K, Metal Rich, Silicate Magma, tidally locked to A2) - the areas to consider are just too vast.

And what's the significance of the recently unlocked systems (HR-W D1-79, DL-Y D65, HR-W D1-74)? Are we to assume that they were locked whilst they were being worked on (Barnacles being placed?) and that at least one of them (assuming FD are smart enough to throw in some red herrings) has the conditions required for a barnacle?

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggh!

Has anyone got a still shot of the barnacle area in the trailer at its widest frame. What clues could be gained from the light and rock surface

There's a list of systems for the trailer(s) in this post: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=222049&p=3416698
None of the system identified are in a nebula. Plus the mist forming at dawn.

So, my unexplained death on Taygeta 4 has me a little perplexed.

It's a nice looking world - Metal Rich with a ring, 3.15g, silicate volcanism, shades of purple.
Didn't take screenshots or coordinates but I think a previous poster has of the same area.
There is a large yellow rectangular area which aligns with a short side on the edge of a large crater with 2 more large craters almost perfectly aligned - the middle crater has what appears to be a collapsed volcano, with what may be lava flows on one side.

I'm aware of the hazards of High-G worlds so I fly very carefully, take it easy with banked turns, don't pitch too much, and use vertical thrust in small doses.
I investigated the volcano, a few random POIs without spotting what they were and then cruised on.
I've recently been using the debug cam to get better views, making sure I'm at a reasonable height, and exactly level - cruised many planets quite nicely without problems.

Then I spot a POI that doesn't look quite like one I've seen before but by then I've already flown over it.
Banking a little more than usual I turn around, losing altitude but I stabilize and come to an absolute halt - no lateral, vertical, or forward motion - completely level.

Switch to the debug cam again to spot the POI, I'm looking for maybe a minute but I can't seem to spot it.
So I turn off the camera, and suddenly I'm in a wildly spinning ship and the controls are completely unresponsive.
Inevitably I start losing altitude, bounce 3 times and explode.
Disappointing because the only other time I've claimed insurance was also slightly buggy but at least I could explain it - don't dock with silent running still on!

A-rated Asp Explorer with no power management issues.
I don't mind losing my ship if I know why but I can't really explain this one.

Questions:
- has anyone else experienced unexplained loss of control?
- is it exclusively on high-G worlds?
- any issues using the debug cam?
- other related weirdness

The debug cam always makes me nervous. It's also unsupported (I think it still is anyway), which, as a game designer, always has undertones of "DANGER DANGER" to it for me. Usually a developer won't label something "unsupported" unless it has the potential to kill you, crash your game, cause mental disorders, launch nuclear missiles, or anything else dire.

i use debug cam regularly. it works great for finding poi.. but obviously no barnacles yet.
I dont believe there is a lack of control as much as we are now under the control of gravity where we would not other wise be. I also believe the higher G planet you go to , the more this will be the case.

EDIT: If you learn the patterns of what the planets G force is going to do you can manage it fairly well.

I was there today also i must stay it's quite stunning place best i have seen so far and worth the trip even if i never see a Barnacle :)
It's also incredibly big, if we knew their was 1 barnacle poi on this planet someplace i can't imagine how long it would take to find if ever, just flying over 1 crater can take 35 or more minutes 1 small pass we are like fruit flies in the cow field...

I went back to maia 7 the south pole has mist so thick you cant see the nose of your ship sometimes So i'm a fruit-fly in a fog storm awesome...

good idea - unfortunately was all they had at the newsstand ...

I am writing up a huge post for the /r/lovecraft subreddit and another Lovecraft community to see if they can see anything that might help us.

As we all know there have been several connections with Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos since the beginning of the UA hunt.

* People even posted "its in the Pleiades because of Cthulhu" even so far back as the first UA thread. - Anyone have a link? I have found a few posts people have made but does anything pop out to you?

* The prize for figuring out the UA X,Y,Z graph was a leather bound notebook with Cthulhu on the front. - Does anyone have the pic of the notebook?

* MB is admittedly a big fan of Lovecraft going so far as to collect things and has Cthulhu stationary on his desk.

* The Pleiades is mentioned several times in Lovecraft's writings. Many of the "Elders" come from there - Anyone know names or details?

* There was a post from MB in reply to a Cthulhu comment. - I need help finding this... something about street corners.

Could someone PM me or reply to this post with every single Lovecraft connection you can think of so I can compile a Elite/Lovecraft mega post for their respective communities to mull over. I am trying to find what I can but I do not want to miss anything.

P.S. I am aware that this is probably a rabbit trail but it won't hurt and they will eat this stuff up I'm sure.
