UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

First a few tests I performed:

1) I have been literally sitting AND DOCKED over a barnacle a couple of times with my ASP. No damage to my internal subsystems happened. That may either mean that the damage other commanders experienced may be either done on a random basis, or that simply the ASP is immune.
2) I have checked that the Barnacles seem to expel materials and alloys on regular basis. No real need to shoot them to get some rewards then.

So, my thoughs about the barnacles:

1) If this didn´t happen to be a game, I would think that the Barnacles only spawn materials and alloys when interacting with humans. Otherwise, the area would be absolutelly filled with materials, and that's not the case. Of course, this may simply be game mechanics. But if the first option is right, does that mean that the barnacle is trying to interact with the humans? Why? Is it testing us?
2) Obviously this organic structures do some kind of refining process. I bet they do produce the UAs.
3) Heavily bombing the central barnacle doesn´t seem to have any effect.

My theory about this things:

I strongly believe that the Barnacles may be the start of a heavy colonisation process. If you think about it they are perfect: You land the barnacle on a planet, it uses the minerls to self grow and, potentially, build a colony in due time. And my second theory is that the Unknown Artifacts are, in fact, "seeds" from these proto colonies searching for new places to expand.

I would advise to start searching for more barnacles within the AU bubble. If my theory is right, we may start observing barnacles in a much larger area of space.

I'm at the correct coordinates and I'm less than 1km in the air. I've found one at the same coordinates in Open so I know where it's supposed to be, it's just not there. I know how to look for them, they just are not SPAWNING for me in Solo/Private.

Obsidian Ant said the crashed Anaconda on Orrere would occasionally not be there. Have you tried logging in and out a few times?

Have you tried turning it off and on again? If you're near one, try bouncing between all three modes and see if that helps?

I'm trying that now. I am DEFINITELY at the right place in Open but if I switch to Solo I can literally see the spot where the Barnacle *should* be and it is not there. Switching back to 'Open' surrounds me with players all staring at it. I CAN see it Open.

I understand. I didn't clarify that the blue circle POIs comment was just a test on the spawn timer. I wasn't expecting it to be a barnacle cluster. It just seems to take a bit of time for the regular POIs to spawn in, and I was wondering if that characteristic was the same for the barnacles. If you're flying within visual range (or better at 200 - 400m), I would hope they would appear as I approach, and not spawn in after I've passed them.

Yes they were visible while I flew towards them

I think people are making too much out of this. We just happened to find one the day after the server happened to crash. The subsequent barnacle's we've found have been a result of finding the first one.

YES! For the love yes, I get so tired of scrolling past all the insinuating posts. We found one barnacle and the others fell in our lap thanks to galnet.

Some people have difficulty spawning it in solo, others have not. Not much to do about that now I am afraid...

That's an answer I can get behind. If it is unknown why *some* people cannot spawn them in solo then that is frustrating but I get it.

I don't react well to the answers ''Well I can see it so you can too'' lol

Bronacles!

Ah, rats. Just as I thought I was getting somewhere in finding the source of that garbled message in the Galnet article, my Hotas decides to break and I have no vertical thrusters. Not a great thing when you have to land and take off. Seems I've been flying a bit too hard!

Has anyone actually solved that one yet? I was in one of the binary planets in JC-U B3-2 and I found a downed satellite around Lat: 27.xx Long: 95.xx, but it was pretty normal so I doubt that's what the message was about.

Same boat here I can see it in open and 2 out of 4 of my private groups. No dice in solo no matter how much log in and out.

Pretty frustrating that there isn't much consistency here but at least a couple of avenues are still good (Canonn/Mobius) in case it turns into Turkey Shoot II if that is what you were wondering. I think FD has some work to do here... I can't help but wonder if all this time I've potentially run across some of these things and they just don't show up due to network / server issues. What else is that way? Almost makes me want to give ED a rest for a long while until it is sorted.

2 SURFACE stations show up like no buy or sell price , and no demand or stock...

but you can still sell them... strange? hell yeah

maybe it's because they want us to sell to the space stations?

PROBLEM SOLVED:

Apparently I just had to KEEP qutting to desktop, reloading the game, going into solo, quit again, reload again, solo again, quit again again etc etc

I have finally got a Barnacle spawn in Solo. Thanks guys!

Weird. Which barnacle you visiting?

I'd put in a bug report.

On the first page it is the one listed as Barnacle #1

I will bug report it though. Thank you :)
