UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Here is my theory (sorry if ninja'd)
I still think the barnacles are able to launch UA's. The structure looks like it can be opened and launch something. so we should observe them more. But what I mainly think the structure is used for is for mining. The Barnacle itself is a mining station. That explains why it makes rumble sounds because it is actually digging in the ground. The spikes are used only for alloy production which would probably take a really long time. That explains why there are so many spikes. When an alloy is ready it goes in the Barnacle and it gets ready for launch to the mothership. I think the UA's are used for locating systems for to scan the body if it has the materials for alloy production.

What do you think?

There is a strong possibility this is some sort of organic tech terraformer, with the meta-alloy production being a very useful by product.

Using the debug cam inside the barnacle and looking up the smoky emanations that, at first, appear to come out in pulses, actually come out all the time!

You can clearly see the effect in the pic below. Try looking next time you guys are on site.

If the anaconda picked these up and they are now closer to our bubble, imagine what one could do to an earth like, if it is a terraformer!

That is an interesting theory. If they are terraforming then maybe this whole scenario will get stretched out until we have landable atmospheric planets... dun dun dun!

Just cos I wanna post my cool piccy again...

Doesn't mean anything just something to get your imagination going...

I do find it odd that an alien civilisation would "mark" their stuff with a symbol, it only seems to make sense where multiple "symbols" are competing and to indicate ownership. I mean clearly the barnacle belongs the the aliens, it almost implies subgroups of aliens. And as such (although I don't necessarily think it's likely), barnacles with alternate symbols is a possibility.

Doesn't make much sense I know but why else stick an "ownership" symbol on something, unless there's some notion of "competition".

Umm....your faction logos are all wrong. First one is Empire, Second is Alliance, Third is Federation...

I don't think the logo is the LMC. Yes, there is a "C" shape in there, but if it's the C we're looking at it's got those three "connections" coming off it, which the LMC doesn't have. Also, why would it be described in negative space like that?

I'm more on the side that it's Barnard's loop plus two other nebulae as seen from the right location. Or it's something else entirely.

BUT

The fact that's getting ignored in favour of greed and general enthusiasm is - it's an artificial mark. These things are BRANDED. They BELONG to somebody.

Now, some Tinfoilery, brought to you by the Shard Broadcasting Corporation

Tinfoil 1: The UAs are a perimeter fence around the barnacle farm. Palin's research noted that they can broadcast over VAST distances. They encode a little drawing of whoever they see and send the data, reporting perimeter breach and by whom. Why morse, and why stellar data in HUMAN terms? - I dunno. Why ask me? Who are you anyway with your impertinent questions? Get out of my office, you punk, before I make a nice hatstand out of you!

Tinfoil 2: The UA's are part of the barnacle breeding cycle.

Tinfoil 3: The Anaconda has brought them here from wherever it has been collecting all those rare materials. Now they are here, they are breeding out of control.

Tinfoil 4: The barnacles and the UAs are part of a mycoid revenge plan by Thargoids, or maybe just some random alien bunch. UA's are noisy and attention grabbing - we get nosy, pick 'em up, get infected and start a nice new barnacle farm.

Tinfoil 5: The UAs are a part of the barnacle farm harvesting method - the barnacles do their thing, and the goodness is packaged into a UA, shot up into space where they can be conveniently collected with having to land at each and every barnacle ranch. They even make a loud noise and transmit where they are to make it easier.

Tinfoil 6: A combo of the above.

Tinfoil 7: The logo is very close to one of my preliminaries when I designed the Canonn logo, which was to be a C in a biscuit. Perhaps LAB69 have been digging through may old papers, and concocted this whole thing to justify their budgets.

Either way - these are not OURS. I'm not saying we should leave them alone completely, but we shouldn't go nicking them, and shooting them etc. Xenobiological study should be done in a more Attenborough style than a Darwin shoot 'em and eat 'em style.

That is what I think about the logo:

Rizal! I just wanted to thank you for your hard work in keeping that crowdish freakish dump an informative site!
I was so happy to see the first post updated with all that buiscuitacular news!

Fly (!) safe!

I have decided not to shoot barnacles. There are easier ways to make cash and I don't want to be on that list. :)

I have, yes. It hasn't seemed to cause them to spawn in Solo either.

I had the issue yesterday. Went to visit the first site in Mobius and it was there but re-logging stopped it appearing in any mode. It eventually spawned for me in solo when I left the system and travelled to the right co-ordinates again.

I don't know if this has already been reported or not. I had a mission to find meta-alloy for 400k credits. When I scooped one the mission disappeared and I had a notification mission to take it to Bokeili Landing in the Daraj system for the system authority instead. I accepted the mission and brought the meta-alloy to Bokeili Landing (Owned by Daraj Energy Corp.) for 900k credits. I then received a followup mission to go kill the people who gave me the first mission. I killed a type9 with 2 sidewinder escorts and just handed it in the mission for 4.6Mil. Total of 5.5mil for the entire run.

Is anyone else being directed to bring their meta-alloy to Daraj Energy Corp?

Same happened to someone else but that diversion was to Alexander Freeport HIP 18843

I think it's all in the 2nd post :)

Anyway we could get condensed info about the ship crash/cargo text (Destination?) on the canisters/the alternate mission someone in here was offered for the Meta-Alloys he harvested yesterday?

I think its in the first or second post
I had just looked but didn't see it.

I'll check again, must have missed it. Thanks.

EDIT: No, I didn't see any info on the alternate mission that one commander was claiming he was offered, or about the details on the cargo found at the Anaconda Crash hinted at in the Gal-Net post (which is linked).
