Asp with turrets for robigo smuggling?

What were you flying? I (And most other people) can easily outrun ANY NPC Cop ship. I smuggle in an Asp boosting at around 390 or a Cobra boosting around 450! It's all about getting these first 2 boost in the picosecond the Mini interdiction game ends and getting to 1.5 ahead of the Cop. After that it is easy to get right ahead of him for either the 10 sec cool down or the full 40 sec FSD cool down. Unless you are flying a slow pig, there is no rhyme or reason you cannot out run any Cop Scan!

Agreed...but add 4 pips to engines. I fly around in SC in that configuration at all times when doing these missions. Never had an NPC that would keep up with me, even though some clearly could if they tried.

Does the 30-mil refer to a scan or loss of ship? There should be no reason to ever have a cop shoot at you! ;)

With 388m/s speed, you should be able to outrun any Cop, even if they spawn-in right beside you (seen that a number of times!).
394m/s even. Didn't bother the Viper that was able to go even faster than that. And if you look up ship speeds, you'll find that with the right outfit the Viper can reach 438m/s and indeed be faster than the fastest Asp.

It's all nice in theory, but when you end up against a Viper that's able to go even faster than you, you'll lose. It only started to fall behind after I boosted for the 3rd time, but as said before a split second later the scan got through.

My tip to smugglers: Be wary of system security in Vipers.

Btw, on my current trip from Robigo to my first drop off location, I was interdicted five times. Three system security Vipers, one police Viper & pirate Sidewinder combo, and one pirate Clipper & police Viper combo. Killed them all except for that last group for which I hauled ass, but not before tagging the police Viper with a bit of weapons fire. I think I should really give the mine launchers a go and see how that works.

PS:
I think I might throw in a couple more upgrades: http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/05A5A...f.Iw18WQ==.IwBj4z1Cg===?bn=Asp Safer Smuggler

Sorry, but been doing these Shadow mission from the day 1.5/2.0 was released, at leats twice a week when i want a buzz. NEVER EVER encountered an NPC Cop that can out run my 394 ASP! Plenty of NPC Pirates have encountered that can, but NEVER a Cop Ship! Besides if you do these missions correctly and Boost thrice after coming into Normal space , you can be out of a Cobra Scan range and gone to high wake before the distance starts to decrease!

An NPC Cop or Pirate never hits his Boost button first then scan button, so hitting 3 quick boost will get you beyond any scan range!

I use four small turretted pulse lasers on the underside hard points. If you pitch down slightly they will start to track most targets. They work really well for the second/third ship that likes to pop into the instance after you submit to/lose an interdiction. If the ship pops in over the top of you, you can roll over 180* and they will track and fire.

I'm not really concerned with accuracy. Just being targeted/a few wild laser shots in their general direction seems to put an end to any scans in progress.

The situation presented itself as a completely different one from how you describe it. At the 3rd boost I had managed to increase the distance from 800m to slightly above 1000m. For the initial two boosts the Viper stayed in the 800m range. Perhaps it's just a RNG thing.

This evening it's going crazy again. Not so many cops this time, but pirates are plenty. Killed another two.

Noooooooooooo! 99.9999999999999999999999% (recuring) of time when you get interdicted the NPC/Pirate/Security is behind you. Asp HP all face forward so will not track the target. If you want to turn and shoot, then Gimballed will be best (Fixed if you have the time and ability).

I have just one class 1 Gimballed Pulse on my Smuggler ASP. Primarily i don't bother turning and firing, i boost boost away until you are out of scanning range. tween 1.5 and 2.0 away, then keep boosting till your FSD is ready then simply jump away!

Turrets lock on targets much earlier than gimbals ever will, and you only need to hit them once to make them stop the scan. You don't want to shoot them down, unless you don't care about a week long bounty in that system.

your asp should have A rated thursters and power distributor. D rated everything else to save weight. You don't need any weapons or shield boosters, just get a single heat sink launcher and a single chaff.

you'll be able to boost to 395, which you let you outrun any cop before they can scan you.

Also the smallest A rated power plant that will work with the cargo hatch disabled. A rated PPs run a lot cooler than Ds, helping with fuel scooping.
