Just cos I wanna post my cool piccy again...

Doesn't mean anything just something to get your imagination going...

I do find it odd that an alien civilisation would "mark" their stuff with a symbol, it only seems to make sense where multiple "symbols" are competing and to indicate ownership. I mean clearly the barnacle belongs the the aliens, it almost implies subgroups of aliens. And as such (although I don't necessarily think it's likely), barnacles with alternate symbols is a possibility.

Doesn't make much sense I know but why else stick an "ownership" symbol on something, unless there's some notion of "competition".

ahem .... canonnblob.jpg maybe it is C for Canonn.. no its not the number 2....

Hey MB all your Barnacles are ours !!!!

Thanks, that's my current strategy more or less. I'm just in orion.

I'm in Orion too, any luck? I wished we get some clue on whether or not they really can be found in other nebulae. Going to keep searching either way, never been out this way so even if no barnacles appear, at least my explorer itch will be satiated.

Random musings but between bio reducing litchen, microbial furnaces and vacuum krill and other weird and wonderful alien life forms mention in the various rare goods entries the Barnacles as "plants" living on airless worlds feeding on metal a d mineral deposits and excreting meta alloys does seem all that our of the ordinary in game wise.

That is no need for them to be bio engineered or Thargoid in origin or from the LMC.

It could be just a cool new alien life form discovery with the meta alloy excretion bonus.

What about Barnards Loop? And anything lying between it and the Pleiades?

I'm halfway to Sagittarius A*, stopped in the Cat's Paw and NGC whatever, but I don't expect to see any.

I'm en route to Orion from ngc 1999. Nothing there except two extremely gray planets. Like as gray as they come. And an abandoned srv and two dead skimmers.

While looking for barnacles at known locations, I keep "landing" mid-air (OK mid-space, since there isn't any air). Is this something that happens only when there's barnacles nearby? Is this a real bug, or is it intended behavior a-la "technical malfunctions" caused by the barnacles? Happened to my wingman at the same times that it happened to me, even though he was several kilometers away.
Also saw a few skimmers wandering aimlessly... Same question.

Barnards is the end destination for me, thought on my way there i'd hit up orion, flame and running man nebulae.

Haha, FD introduced barnacles so they could just blame the game bugs on the barnacles causing equipment malfunctions. :p

Same happened to me tonight. Confused the heck out of me...landed 850m off the ground.
I had enough, turned towards the core and am now out in Deep Space 1000ly from the bubble.
Had enough of the endless searching!

cmdrs

i had very little time tonight to hop into the verse, however i just completed my first journey out to barnards loop. i know there are a few people saying that it smoehow relates to the barnacles tattoo or logo or whatever you would like to call it. if there is anything you can think of for me to look at in particular out here please feel free to give me some suggestions. i headed out th is way simply because iv never been out this far before and i felt it was time to break that 500 ly threshold.

A question for all:

does the binary code extracted from up and low tones on UAs mean something or not?
I found on 1st page that you found a morse code in the sound timings, but the up low sequences was useful or not?

Well this is a first for me, just a hole where the anaconda should be lol

Barney is there though, this is on mobius
I've spent the last 4h trying to find any barnacles near the anaconda and other listed confirmed places, guess how many I found: 1, and that wasn't even mine, I only noticed it because suddenly a material popped up on the radar from the player that actually found it.

And now the anaconda is gone too.

This game hates me so much and just gives me more reasons to hate it equally -_-

So in terms of expanding the search beyond the Pleiades I understand that Barnard's Loop is the favourite target. But when we are looking there is there anything we can look for to narrow the search?

I believe we are finding Barnacles close to ship crash sites, but anything else like planet type or stellar class? I appreciate that our current sample size maybe to small to draw any conclusions yet.

Also do we want to start an effort to record systems with landable planets in Barnard's Loop and the surrounding nebulae? I am happy to help collect the data, just not sure how best to organise and distribute it.

So after we discovered the barnacles - whats next? I mean, is there anything to discover already implemented in the game, or do we have to wait? Just for wasting-time-reasons.

Why would their symbol be their home when viewed from a particular point in our galaxy?

Any interpretation of the markings as a celestial structure will be the structure as they see if from their home, as opposed to the structure being their home

I mean, the LMC is technically a spiral galaxy. It would look about the same from the other side, and from the sides it would just be flat.

Wooooo floating barnacles!

2016-01-15_00005.jpg2016-01-15_00006.jpg

Here they look more like hair follicles than spikes of a larger organisms. The base of the stalks are a cool green though!

Seen lots of weird behavior around these things. Like some others, I kept landing in mid air, several hundred m. up. Then I tried to warp away, and landed mid charge. Resulted in a crash to desktop. And then there was this thing; hopped out of my ship and I was under the barnacles. Another CMDR happened to be there, and he told me that it just looked to him like I was right beside the spikes, not under them.

just been talking with fellow commanders about the meta-alloys, what if they are like stem cells, hear me out on this. The alloys are programmable, like stem cells, but when we take them to damaged stations like OO they repair it because theres no programing for them to follow and go back to default and start to repair mode, has anyone tired having UA's in with alloys in there cargo hold to see if the ship does still get damaged? could they could also be some sort of hidden virus, repairing the station to hide what it is doing in the back ground, sending out information about us? just my tinfoil theory

Brilliant.

Meta-alloys/barnacle seeds as metalic stem cells/progenitor cells.

I like this idea, it works.

It happens at the Anaconda site to.
