UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

I have an observation.

I found the barnacles and the fallen conda on open, group and solo.

The thing is, only the conda was in the exact same location every time.

Barnacles seemed to have a few possible spawn locations around a general area of a few degrees squared (I can't convey the measurement in any other way).

Again, it seems I can find the barnacles in solo or private group but not in the exact same location. It's better to check with the SRV since the signal of the barnacles, both pattern and the sound, is pretty distinctive.

Here's another point:
3). The Thargoids were the bogeymen of the original game, they were a big part of what made it special. I say ED needs them to be bogeymen as well. Where is the fun in an alien race that we have peaceful relations with? (Don't anyone say "someone new to trade with!" I'd have more fun shooting myself.)

So I say shoot away.

Hear, hear. +1 rep agreed.

Nah, it's got a big hole in top so the vacuum will get in! :D

Capital ships also have big holes in the middle, so what?

The first few info posts seem to be getting a bit unwieldy now - I can't seem to find the list of confirmed barnacle locations.

That big spreadsheet doesn't seem to have a barnacle list.

You should look better then;)
There's a big bolded link to them. Everything is underlined, is a link.
On the big spreadsheet, the tab is called 'form response 1'. I agree a better naming is needed:)
Panzertand?

Sorry, still don't see it. Navigating a big spreadsheet on the iPad is a bit of a nightmare though. :(

I think, if there are crew, they sit in that cream coloured inner core that some people think is filled with UA.

That's, if there are actual crew. They could be sentient ships, like the Cylon raiders.

Given that MB said our first actions with the Thargoids will determine the future relationship with them, I don't think we'll encounter them straight away.

I think that is why we have this massive clue of the crashed anaconda with barnacles around it. There is a very human element involved with the UA (morse!) and barnacles. This also allows us to have a bridge, storywise, slowly bringing in the Thargoids. The anaconda looks like it was some sort of dodgy scientific research vessel. The writing on the crate says "The Hexagonal Tech (something indecipherable)"

MB looks like he is building a very good and interesting, conspiracy based, sci-fi story into Elite now, with plenty of twists. I'm just going sit back and watch how it unfolds now

I can see based on how some players are, first encounter will be, Explora "hi thargoid lovely to meet you hope we can be friends" Posts on Forum. Wow everyone is going. Griefer comes shoots the crap out of it and we are all screwed

Additional info on the conda.

The red boxes around the conda says 'caution' on it with the weight of the shipment given in detail.

Each box contains about 54 tonnes of something according to the total weight and tare printed on them.

I got that far but I'm not seeing a barnacle list in there.

It's on the fourth tab from the left. It's called "Form responses 1".

well this game needs war or something :D

To expand on this I thought that maybe the Thargoids/Aliens of mysterious origin are in cahoots with the corporation that owned the yellow crates on the crashed anacondas and may have picked a symbol of something that is meaningful to the aliens (that particular nebula) in a way that is recognisable for earthlings.

Anyone else also think that maybe Frontier are reading this thread and picking out the best conspiracy theory and using that for the story going forward :)

That's what I'd do. It's the 'Lost' formula. Although I'm of the opinion that there's a bigger plan - hence MB's comments re the Nebula origins and not being able to talk about it...

I'm wracking my brains to figure out which of the enhancements coming in the next year could tie in with imminent alien (or 'nonhuman') contact. Multicrew could be the one.

I would give you rep, but apparently I did it before, or I would!
Interesting! Those guys were up to no good in that anaconda.

I think the Thargoids may want all their stuff back. Don't you? :D

I remember a galnet post in the early days where they said that Federation knew more about Unknown Artefacts but they wouldn't tell to the public yet. I haven't heard anything about that since then. I can't find the post.

There was also a human element involved in trying to silence research into the UA and other sabotage. This was months ago though.

Hmmmm looking back at horizons release vid
Elite 6.09.33].jpg

so the shot with the crashed T9.
the blue bit is an Anaconda
the green bit is a building
and the red bit looks like another anaconda.
So a t9 and 2 Anaconda's sounds like a crashed UA convoy to me.
is this a shot of the origin of the barnacles?
Just so you can see the clean version.

Edit : do love the way the engines are still going.

Oh yeah, that wasn't so long ago, I remember it clearly. Dr. Palin got a grant to research the UA's shortly after they were discovered, but it was shut down very quickly, I think the story was that the UA was damaging the systems in the space station and therefore removed, but it was definitely very shady. Also there was an attack on dr. palin's lab by an unknown faction, the attack failed though. I don't remember so much about that though.
