1. DPE

I have calculated this as follows, using the original DPE v shields stats from Cmdr StarLightBreaker’s thread (c2 Plasma Accelerator being the only update). Thanks to Cmdr VoidDancer for helping.

I am not aware of corresponding data for purely kinetic weapons such as Multi-Cannons, Frag Cannons or Cannons, although they do vary; Cannons appear to cause less capacitor drain than Multis, for example.

2. Absence of c2 Bursts / c2 gimballed & turreted Frag Cannons

When Cmdrs StarLightBreaker and Pale Night conducted their research, the c2 Burst Laser (in any variant) did not yet exist in game. This gap was filled subsequently.

Because my table derives from their data, I don't have anything on the c2 Burst Laser. I'm not aware of any subsequent structured testing but you could extrapolate a little from the c1/c2/c3 pulse/beam data.

The original thread does not say why the c2 gimballed and turreted Frag Cannons were omitted.


3. Presentation

A member of my player group has been preparing bar charts and I may edit these in if/when finalised. I would welcome any other visuals / more sophisticated tables and will gladly consider editing them in to this opener. Here are two for starters:-

Have some rep, though I believe that simple calculation factors from shield DPS to hull DPS are not telling the full truth here:

Kornelius has put up a nice video showing, that Burst lasers have the best hull DPE. If Kornelius testing was accurate, the hull DPS of a fixed Burst is 1,4 times that of a fixed pulse and your numbers are much closer together. Burst might have some extra damage vs. hulls.

Are we sure that all "medium" hulls have the same damage modifier for small/medium/large weapons? I'd gotten the impression that it was more granular.

What ship was this actually tested against?

EDIT: Just realized you didn't do direct testing, but basically cross-correlated some other tests. That's great, but I think it would be worth at least some in-game tests to verify that the numbers match up as expected.

Nice work. But yes, also missing Advanced Plasma Accelerators. Otherwise, the document has lots of good data.

The burst laser damage represented there is a little misleading. While burst lasers are practically better for taking down hulls (as demonstrated in that video), it's not because they intrinsically do more damage to hull than the other lasers. Burst lasers have relatively poor penetration. In that video, the target was rotating / moving around, so many of the shots fired would inadvertently been lined up with modules. Since the pulse and beam lasers have pretty good penetration, several of their shots would have penetrated the hull and hit modules (thus doing very little hull damage, and instead damaged the module hit). Since the burst laser has worse penetration, less of the shots penetrate through and do their damage to modules, and thus a greater percentage of their damage output gets applied to the hull instead.
 
Not sure I believe the rail gun info. My understanding was that rail guns did little hull damage, but penetrated fully for very good module damage.
