UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

The good news: if I remember well, and I do, no one ever tried what you did, I mean overlapping the two faces of the UA's head. So, kudos to you for the idea.
The bad news: unfortunately there's nothing coming out of it.

We like to think they are bull's heads, not birds :D

I always look at them with the other side up, and think they look like little sandmen from Tatooine.

Yep, we discussed it a few pages ago: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=222049&page=491&p=3440760#post3440760

But also what was discussed:

Some people headed off to do a little investigation though.
Not sure of any results, been away for a few days and skipped a few pages.

Well, if the Taurus Dark Area is part of the symbol, it's not the place to look.
It's the area where the TDA and Pleiades line up to vaguely resemble the symbol.

Somewhere on the edge of the synuefe sector I think

It's as good a theory as any and also not that far so I'll pursue it along with extending the barnacle line outwards.

I think if the developers are smart they'll not let a first-contact scenario (I don't consider the UA or barnacles first contact because they seem far from sentient) be decided by one commander. Looking at what they've done in the past they'll let a CG or something similar determine the course of the story.]

Hm... CG's are often bugged and the current one relies on harvesting Meta Alloys which is subject to a bug that makes it difficult for commanders to find barnacle sites...

Sounds like making a major story arc dependent on bugged functionality. Not a good idea.

updated:
Confirmed barnacles in green.
Speculated candidate planets in red.

disabled the forced (0,0) intercept

Did you compare this with the distance/star temperature relationship that applies on the whole population of planets (not just those with barnacles)? Just to make sure your findings are not just a result of the distribution FD uses for random planet generation...

Don't think anyone has a problem finding Meta-Alloys with all the coordinates we have now.

The biggest issue I have with this is that you can log off/on to get a frech barny. That is silly. It should be easy to store the state and have a timer on respawn.

Been away, lots of travelling, so just checking back in.... jeez you've all been busy...

Didn't spot this anywhere, but am curious if anyone has established if carrying meta-alloys prevents ship damage from UA?

Question: Has anyone figured out what these barnacles grow from?

The idea occured to me that its where a UA lands on a planet suitable for growth... so we plant a UA somewhere and wait.....

Bill

<<currently kicking about the Merope system looking for barnacles/UAs/Aliens and trouble ;)

Does not. The problem is that as soon as you scoop it, it's stuffed into a regular cargo canister.

"If it aint a problem for me; then it aint a problem...."

How about all those commanders who had to turn back from the Distant Worlds Exped. because their SRV's spontaneously combusted. "If it aint a problem for me; then it aint a problem...."
I spent over an hour last night looking & logging within .02 decimal places of the exact coordinates of one of the Pleone Barni's and found turd. "If it aint a problem for me; then it aint a problem...."
The guys who work at FD and play on their test servers: it works for me so: "If it aint a problem for me; then it aint a problem...."

Great, just Fing great.

For Solo, or Open as well? Not sure how that'd work in Solo or Group.

Yes (well, not the WHOLE population obviously, hunting takes time). Only the green dots in my last image are confirmed barnacle planets. Red dots are other planets that fall within the same 194-379K surface-temperature range that barnacles seem to like (so far). This whole thing is based on the logical assumption that barnacles prefer a certain surface temperature range.

That´s very interesting. I´ll try to search for candidate planets to confirm or deny your speculations.

More data would be fantastic :)

You should make that into a T-shirt.

Hi all, first off good effort to you all that have participated in all of this since the start, and to the Cmdr that first discovered the Barnacles!

Im participating in the Meta alloy CG and yesterday was my first trip to find the one on Merope 5C. This one: -26.3515 -156.4056

I soon learnt how to spot the site from 1000's of km away, so if i may ill put these pics here as a reference as how to spot the site, for those who haven't been yet or struggle to find it.

Ok the pics are in order from an approach.....

In this first one as you approach head for the yellowish mark below the arrow, note the darker area just above and to the right.

ok next one closer in, and look for the 'Devil' see it? (Kinda reminds me of the Man UTD Devil on their logo) Head for the heart!

Head for the bottom left of heart.

This next one was taken with my phone yesterday for reference, please excuse quality :p

Hope it helps!

Keep up the good work fellas! o7

Fly safe

J.

Thanks Cmdr. That may come in handy when I head over to Merope later tonight.

can somebody tell me - how ua should point to merope?

1 - head to merope (>>>O merope) or
2 - tail to merope (O<<< merope)

before I never check how they are pointing

it seems pointing head to merope (>>>O merope)
this one I've found was pointing head out of merope (O<<< merope)

Great, just Fing great.

It is anoying, but FD are working to solve the issues.
I'm sometimes affected my self, but I don't want the game to stop and wait for me.

Yes, I've been wondering bout this. Could mean there are 7 planets in the pleiades hosting barnacles (that the UAs 'know' of)?

I think it means that the UA is perfectly symetrical. :)
