I was absolutely sure I would buy an OR for Elite Dangerous.
After Facebook happened I am a bit unsure. I will wait and see. If the OR can be used without being forced into anything having to do with Facebook I am still in, otherwise I am out. I do not want anything to do with Facebook.
I loathe social media in general and I will not be forced into it. Google Plus (or Google Pus as I call it) destroyed youtube for me and Facebook could spoil OR. I will stoically accept whatever will happen next.

I am sure a competitor will come along if FB spoils the fun.

I find it quite shameful what happen t here.
just unbelievable how they could sell a crowd funded company before the first release.

It's very coercive too, as I've got two different accounts, and it always tries to bully me into using the one with my real name. It will even surreptitiously sign me out of one and into the other...

Since Google Pus I never sign in anymore, I never comment anymore, I never vote anymore, I do not upload anymore. I only use it passively.

That is a good point.
I wouldn't buy too soon anyway.
After watching the Valve dev vid about VR it is clear that the first truly worthwhile units will not be produced before perhaps 2015 and most likely 2016.

So more than enough time to observe the early adopters struggling with the teething problems. I will only buy a finished consumer model. I have no stomach for unfinished products.

Metanoia, you could have been a bit better with the wording of your options. "I'm mad and don't want one" makes it sound like the chooser of that option would have to be mentally unstable. "I'm angry at the Facebook buyout" might have sounded more balanced and gotten more people voting on your poll.

I did vote. I'm getting the DK2. Kerrash was good enough to let me try the DK1 at the Manchester meet. Knowing that the 2nd development kit was going to be an even better experience was good enough for me.

I do believe that Facebook's involvement will make the hardware for commercial release even better still. I don't think that such a unit will be available for a long time. More money and commercial clout doesn't always equate to quicker development cycles.

There have been categorical denials of Facebook log-in requirements. I want to see how that promise pans out when the commercial version comes out.

Didn't bother with DK1, have a DK2 on pre-order and will most likely buy a CK1 when it's released, providing it is a significant improvement over DK2 (higher resolution wouldn't be sufficient).

I'm not a backer but I have been watching some youtube videos in my DK1 of Elite that were recorded in O.R mode. Those cockpits, that scale and immersion is going to be amazing.

I've ummed and arrred about getting the Dev kit 2, but have maybe unwisely decided to hold off for the consumer model.

Yep, I am getting DK2. I will probably skip CV1 and then get the refreshed version of it (my feeling is the next few years will see a number of tweaks and improvements).

I dont like FB, but I think it has just got a bit fashionable to hate them at the moment. They are no worse than google (and I use google devices daily) or MS (I have a windows phone and pc) and at least unlike apple they are not going to rip us of with the hardware prices by the looks of it.

I suspect they will probably deliver in batches to regions. They set up some sort of distribution network for DK1 - mine was delivered from within the UK (nicely avoiding import taxes and VAT; they've added that on in advance this time.) So anyway, it's fairly likely we'll get them all at the same time, from the same batch.

Just having a nose around in anticipation for my OR turning up in July (fingers crossed.)

I was curious on how the OR would work with 3D films and found a bit of software called VRplayer.
