Hint?

Hah. I'd guess he/she means if you buy 1 million tickets across several draws. Obviously - as you say - if you buy a ticket for each possible combination for an individual draw, you win.

In that case the chance of winning at least once is only about 63%. I think most people would expect it to be much higher.

Hmmmm very sneaky I was trying to get to NGC 246 the skull nebula ... but ended up heading towards NGC 2467 Skull and Crossbones (still quite a ways away)... That whole measure twice axiom folks ...well im on my way anyway

NGC 246 (Skull Neb) is supposed to be centered on BD-12 134 but isnt ... doesnt look like i could reach it anyway :p

Eta Carinae is another where they've got either the nebula or the star in the wrong place. Unfortunately the Homunculus Nebula didn't get the hand-drawn treatment despite being the subject of one of the most iconic Hubble photos.

I think you are reading too much into it. ED really only has one mechanism for players to influence a story (outside of powerplay) and that's CGs. Of course in-story Palin doesn't need thousands of tons of meta-alloys to do his research. He also didn't really need thousands of evacuation shelters to build a new base (basically trying to build a house out of a bunch of tents). A good proportion of CGs don't really make sense in-story.

Palin needs thousands of tons of meta-alloys because that's what is required to engage the player-base. How much fun would it be if Palin only needed 10 tons of the stuff and only 5 people actually got to contribute? (I'm not going to debate whether or not grinding for CGs is actually fun at all, that's another issue.)

understand what you're saying, but to retain RP credibility FD need to explain in their storyline the number of evacuation shelters delivered .

BTW, in case anyone was curious (couldn't see anything about it on the first page), there's nothing unique about the destruction of meta alloys, blows up like just another cargo pod.

Also, surprisingly boring canister when jetted in space:

Also, be careful about where you sell Meta Alloys. I nearly clicked OK and then noticed this....

Following up on this; this was apparently a bug. I've now gone back to the same station, and they have a sell-price. Much lower than the galactic average as they aren't in demand (74k), but sellable nonetheless.

I am in interested in the technique used to find new barnacles. Is there a more effective way than flying at 2 km over a whole planet doing a visual search? I had problems doing that at Merope 5 C (-25.3417), (-158.4834) the other evening - couldn't find it even when I knew where (approximately) to look!
I did see quite a few POI blue circles- is there perhaps a link between barnacle sites & POIs being nearby?
I think someone (Edit-Iridium Nova on 21Jan #8526) posted that its possible to aurally detect from the SRV barnacles at long distance- can we triangulate for likely search areas?

Probably a stupid question, but the lat/long stuff is aching my head.

People say, "from the Anaconda wreck, go North/Northeast for barnacle [X]" but as far as I can see, the compass is set to 0-360 degrees with no directional markings. Am I blind? Are we using the convention that 0=North, 180=South, etc?

Any answer would be appreciated and quit me nibbling on my fingers in distress because I also seem to be affected by the missing barnacle thing :(

0 bearing = North = increasing latitide
90 bearing = East = increasing longitude
180 bearing = South = decreasing latitude
270 bearing = West = decreasing longitude

Perhaps. But it's still a justification purely to explain away how the game works. It's questionable to take one of those justifications and then come up with a theory based on that. E.g. I don't think "Palin can't have really needed that many evacuation shelters so there must be something more going on" is a strong theory because the requirement of gathering a large number of shelters was forced on the CG by the game, not the story. It's possible they might sometimes make the unreasonable CG requirement important to the story in some way, but since the same sort of thing is going to happen for almost every CG that isn't a simple construction/terraforming job, most of the time the strange CG requirement isn't going to significant.

Hi CMDR, try this for the site on Merope 5C https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=222049&page=581

It's a set of screenshots I took as a visual reference to easily spot it from 1000's of km away.

Aim for the heart!

I may make a similar post later on of the 3 barnacles together on P S JC-U B3-2 2.....That one is even easier to spot from space!

Yesterday, I fired my SRV guns at a couple of alloys lying around at the Merope 5C site.
They explode with a HUGE bang, which echoes through the canyon for seconds and seconds on end!
It pretty much sounds like the bang you hear, when you dismiss your ship.

I'm sure I'm not the 1st one who fires at one of the meta-alloys...but have you paid more attention to the echo this produces?
Is there a reason why this always sounds different, or is it just RNG stuff?

How far from the anaconda wreck do the barnacles spawn usually? Because I am not able to find any... Rejoined several times... Do I have to log out to fix the spawn bug or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Woo Hoo! I think I just found my first new barnacle! It's another one on Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 1 so no huge revelation I'm afraid but I've checked the spreadsheet and it doesn't seem to be on there. The co-ordinates are -21.2740, -85.6115. I'm not sure how to add to the spreadsheet so if someone can stick it on I'd appreciate it.

Finally got out of the sonic shower, ready to head out, Does anyone have a suggestion which areas to start surveying. Still not quite awake as I should be.

Nicely done! I entered your info for you. Credited your post too with a link. FYI if you find any more the entry form is here (it's dead easy):
