Not sure if it's been done before, forum search only comes up with people asking for someone to do it, so i just took 4 retributors a.k.a tea-kettle-cannons to Merope 5c to test their effects on the barnacles. To keep it short, no results whatsoever.
I did:
- heat up/shoot smaller spires with 'normal' resources, targeted the structure itself and the resource "blossoms" individually
- heat up/shoot bigger spires containing meta alloys, targeted the structure itself and the resource "blossoms" individually
- heat up/shoot the central structure - top structure with and without symbols - top middle structure - the middle greenish lit parts between the central spires
All "shots" at least 2mins with 2 retributors, NONE of the structures where even damaged. No light or sound reaction other than the usual very small animation with small floating black fragments on a hit - no difference to an ordinary rock there.
I then tested alternating between normal beam weapons and the retributors, to see if there's maybe a reaction to the resources the spires (both kinds) drop.
Since the info text for the alloys mentioned their heat resistance and reaction when heated beyond a certain point, i also did shoot the dropped alloys in order to heat them up and possibly force a reaction, again zilch.
The weapon spread on the Asp-E unfortunately doesn't allow more than 2 beams to hit the target, even given the long time i kept them on each target, the heat might not have been enough - it's still possible that more commanders shooting at the same time might produce a different result. There is also no way to tell if the heat even propagates, and if so, how hot a given target actually is. I also couldn't test hitting various points of interest around the site simultaneously - especially the four symbols on the central structure.
So, more testing might be needed, but it feels more like a dead end to me if i'm honest. It's not even clear if the beams effect ("dumps heat into the targets cooling system"*tool-tip), is even working against anything non-mechanic/without said cooling system.
Sorry fo my grammar and such, it's late and english isn't my 1st language
