Just to clarify and hopefully end this debate once and for all. The way things have turned out is complete different to how it was planned. In the end, email and forum (and in a sense Twitter) have become the official communication channels between the organisers and the fleet. Skype, discord, TS, etc have all become social hubs. Nothing more than that. Each have their advantages and disadvantages and people have all settled on what they prefer. This is a reality we'd be arrogant to try and meddle with. People have preferences and that's that. I'm not going to force anyone anywhere at this point. Skype has a lovely conversation constantly happening and quite a few busy channels for organising. Discord has amazing chat features and a global system to it, and is easy to join and step into if you don't want an app on your PC. TS has a history, a method and a style a lot of people are used to and great friendships have been formed there.

At the end of the day, where we are now is that people have bonded and formed friendships and likings to certain chat modes. It's not going to change. We as organisers are not going to try to change it. People can come and try to start a movement from one to the other and I couldn't care less and won't encourage or discourage it. I will warn that it's a mostly futile attempt at this point as people have their preferences and might get a little annoyed being told what to do so I suggest we leave it and let it be now. No further use debating which is best as nobody really cares anymore

This is pretty much the way it is. Since giving Discord a go, it is my most strongly favoured method of comms, however, I still know a lot of people on Skype that don't use it, and I enjoy chatting to them too, so, I just keep them all running.Gives me something to do on those long SC trips to that Earth-like, WW or AW 200k LS from the main star...

I would fly back. A few hours a night this week and you'll be back to WP5 in no time if you do a fairly straight shot. Just be careful, because after another week, that distance is going to begin to be considerable.

Thanks, that sounds reasonable. Is there any downside to self-destructing other than losing credits? I have plenty of those, so would it save some time instead of doing the trip back? I know I lose some explored data, but it's really not much, as I hadn't learned to use the advanced scanner until two days ago.

Just the loss if exploration data(which means you won't get any rank increase) is all that I can think of. You'll also get to scan all the systems for the return trip home and then back out!

Sorry guys, I have been gone since my home got destroyed by a tornado a few weeks ago (the 9th of January). I just happened to have been in NGC 6357 before everything happened. So I have been floating around this Nebula for some time.

I don't know if we have a 'meeting' system in that nebula/WP, but if there is I recommend CL Pismis 3 there are 3 black holes in that system, as well as a high metal (last object on system map) which has stuff for jumponium.

I don't know if we have a 'meeting' system in that nebula/WP, but if there is I recommend CL Pismis 3 there are 3 black holes in that system, as well as a high metal (last object on system map) which has stuff for jumponium.

I kinda bummed I missed you guys. I've been in the Eagle Nebula for almost a week now. Wanted to join up with you all. I was in the right system, right planet/moon but had to log off to pick up my daughter. By the time I got back on, everyone was gone :-(

It's a long lonely trek. I would like to add some folks to my friends list since it doesn't look like I'll be able to make the normal meeting times too often (if it is 8:00 Eastern time USA). I've never winged up before and it sound like it could be a lot of fun.
Anyone going to be in the NGC 6357 nebula in the next couple of days - ahead of meeting point?

I arrived there last night after a quick trip back to the bubble. All the people I was hanging out with have moved on and I'm staying behind to finish prospecting some systems. I'm currently at CL PISMIS 13 in the Kamzel group.

Encountered an interesting bug today. Was departing Waypoint 4 and was about 2 or 3 km in the air when my ship came to a complete stop all of a sudden. My shields went down and my hull went to 75% instantly. I was able to carry on again after a few seconds. Has anyone else encountered anything like this before? I would go back to the bubble to repair, but I won't have much time for the next couple weeks and I may never catch back up. At the same time I don't know if I should risk continuing on and possibly encountering this bug again...

There's the post I was looking for. Similar thing happened to me twice yesterday, when leaving the base camp: Ship stopped all of a sudden and claimed it was landed ~2 km above ground. No damage though, and no noticeable shield loss, even though I was boosting at the time. Scared the hell out of me. (The dialog was funny, though. "Ship secure." - "Err, Insensitivity, we are 2,000 m above ground." - "So what?" - "And the landing gear isn't down." - "Well, we aren't on the ground, are we?")

Second time was two minutes later while counting down to supercruise, with a sudden mass lock which went away after immediately the "take off". Good thing the seatbelt sign was on.

Anyway, can confirm the bug, but not the damage. (To the ship, anyway. My heart, on the other hand...)

I happily announce: I am back! After finding my ship destroyed after leaving the keyboard for lunch a few days ago, I was disheartened and thought I'd never find the time and dedication to catch up with the fleet again. But yesterday I made 5000 LY and now am at Waypoint 2 in the Lagoon Nebula. I will try to close the gap even even further in the coming days, so perhaps I can meet you guys in time at Waypoint 5 on the weekend!
Last time I checked I saw CMDR Maia Posidana was kind of behind the main fleet, too. Perhaps I can catch up with her and we can fly a part of the way together, I am a big fan of her "Around the galaxy in 80 days (with any luck)" adventures.

Of all people it was my wife that convinced me that I shouldn't give up since I looked forward to this trip so much!

Me and Erimus will discuss letting the prospectors in on the waypoints as that is a good point. Will let you know any solutions we come up with as there are two good sides to this debate and wed like to satisfy both if possible

Whilst personally I prefer to go at my own pase (1.5 or so faster then now, so I can't wait till the fleet splits into 2) I understand why we're going so slow and not post the waypoints far ahead atm.. to keep the main together.
I don't get why the ppl in the rolles that fly out ahead don't get the waypoint s 1 or 2 weeks early tho. As it's kinda hard to stay ahead if you don't know the next area till everyone does.

Anyways I'll wait up for the fleet for the rest of the week at NGC. So I can work on a video.

On my way to the Eagle Nebula I decided to test out FSD boost and give EDSM a nice outlier. After a couple of standard and premium jumps and ended up 2180 ly below the Eagle Nebula. There was another star below me, just in reach, yet I would have to empty my fuel tank to get there and it was a neutron star. Instead of giving the fuel rats a difficult challenge I chose the more reasonable path, the long way tracing my steps back up.

On the way I found 2 ELW, one a moon of a HMC. It lined up quite nicely with the galaxy.

Today I visited the bonfire at Mt. Magellan to enjoy the demolition derby on show. One daredevil commander even jumped over the nose of my ship while I was hovering next to the mountain.

I'm currently on the way back to bubble before heading to NGC 6357 since I keep forgetting to turn the shields back on before landing. I should locate the landing gear deployed sound sample and replace it with, Raise your shields dumb-ass. Hopefully this will be the last trip back.

Had an unfortunate situation last night. But also fortunate, because I forgot to start recording beforehand, so I'm not obligated to show you guys.

Had my USB hub crap out while I was flying to land on a moon. Got it plugged in to a working port a few seconds too late, pulled up in time to save the ship, but not in time to save the 21% hull damage I took. No matter, I'm pressing on. Too stubborn to turn back now.

Also, I'm number 186 on the roster, but didn't sign up for a private group. Open Play is fine, but it's getting a tad lonely; any way I can get into one of the private groups? On US time.
