All explorers are equal, but some are more equal than others
I am shocked at how quickly this group has followed the normal clan/cliche downward spiral, I didn't think it would happen till well after Sag A. As usual it is not the leader at fault, but their lieutenants.
I might find the time to quote the original statements about 'no leader', being able to explore as we wish, and all are welcome.
It stinks.
The only problem I have with Akira's post was the rather heavy handed wording. While I appreciate that English is not his first language the message could have been better communicated.
I don't truly understand the problem here although I do take issue with the prospecting information being removed from the DW Trello site.
That information wasn't encouraging people to move too far ahead and this information is in the public domain from other sources anyway.
We had a heated discussion about this on TS last night because some people took this personally and were threatening to leave DW because of it. The whole fuss is a total storm in a teacup, everyone should just calm down and spend time growing up a little.
Distant Worlds is a group undertaking and some people are losing sight of this.
If you feel the need to leave because of something relatively unimportant then please do so but without causing a fuss.
If you are rushing ahead to Beagle Point then you are not actually taking part in Distant Worlds: DW is not just about getting to Beagle Point it is about getting to Beagle Point as a group and taking part in the Way Point events along the way.
What you do between those WP meetings is entirely up to you and no-one has said otherwise. But if you truly want to be a part of Distant Worlds and be a contributing member of it then you should remember that the WP meetings are where you should be, either at Landing or Takeoff and seriously stick around for the weekend.
As for "leaders and lieutenants"... what a load of tosh. There are a group of people who have slugged their guts out on their own time to make this happen. Because of that they naturally want DW to both succeed and be a memorable event for everyone who takes part. Unfortunately a minority of commanders have, after 15 days, lost sight of this and those organisers are making efforts to get them back into the DW fold.
Everyone involved in Distant Worlds, from Erimus, Dr Kaii, Akira, myself, you and everyone included are volunteers. As such we should pull together, cooperate and above all work as a group.
There is certainly no room nor place for unwarranted and unjustified complaining, it sours the atmosphere to no end.
