Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

The warning for this waypoint is worth heeding. I've only tried landing on low G places before, and this at "only" 1G felt very different. On final approach before touchdown I was really worried if I would bounce as the speed I built up going down took a long time for the thrusters to balance out! It looks like others were less lucky.

On my initial approach from orbit, I did see CMDR Rollo Rhadium near me. I had just targeted to ID, and while I turned away to look for the landing spot, I heard "target shields down". Sure enough there was a chunk of hull gone too. I didn't see what happened to cause that though.

I've sorted out some pics from the meetup and they're on my facebook page linked in my sig.

What's the story behind that recklessness?
From the look of it, I would say that he probably came in too fast and tried to boost to counter his downward momentum. Sadly, the sip did not pitch up quickly enough and crashed into the ground (and that poor other asp ...).

Disappointing evening, I was in Kamzel, landed at the waypoint and was the only one there, I stayed for an hour but nobody came. This instancing thing is getting on my nerves. Listening to the guys having fun on TS and all I see is dust. Not happy.

Had the same problem, was in open with 20+ people, then the instance crashed. I needed to restart the whole game a couple of times before I could see anyone in de different groups.

I need to join Discord! Every time I wing up now to chat my frame rate drops off a cliff and I'm worrying about crashing into a star and losing my 100%.

Ed is out to kill me 12% into the journey and 83% hull. :(

Also can I equip some device to give me warning of this.....

I know I wont make it or I will chicken out at 50% hull.

1g in a conda means it takes a long time to null out minus Vert speed. As I found out today. A few boosts were needed to make sure I did not hit the deck while flying around.

Be careful. As we have found out. It's easy to screw up!

With that landing skill, maybe its better he crashed.. just saying..
Cmon, its 1G, its not THAT hard.

Funny as hell though.. :D
I wasn't trying to land.
I had actually spent the last 30 minutes performing low altitude high speed passes over the landing and hit some really good pull outs, the best one being 45 m at 245m/s with my nose vertical.
Raptor has a high light I think.
The problem was that I forgot that my Asp has no wings and the planet has no atmosphere.
The only thing that went wrong was I blew another cmdr away and he has to go back to the bubble to repair.
Remember, do not do this at home and if you do make sure you have sensible people on TS who don't tell you to pull out 50 seconds after it is too late.

The one thing to remember is SLOW AND STEADY. The higher the G, the faster you go down (even with a low angle your speed gets increased by gravity), and the longer it takes to cancel that speed.
To get a good feel for that kind of things you should test how long it takes to cancel while still up high. For example at WP5 i tested that while going down at ~40° and 120m/s (half of it thrusters, half gravity) i would go down 500m more after getting back to horizontal. That tells you how aggressive you can be and at which altitude you should start to pay more attention.
Also don't start too cocky : if you see things are under control you can try to go down faster, but once you impact the ground you can't try to do is slower. For example don't even try a 45° full speed descent at the 9.77G planet :)

Agreed. As I was saying, on that 1g planet, it takes a long time to cancel out a negative vertical decent. And with the fact we are landing in mountains, its even harder to judge. Depending where you are determines your height above ground. Even doing cautious flybys like I was needs very careful consideration of v-speed and height. In a conda that is.

I was in Kamzel, and saw several Commanders in the system.
Unfortunately, Missusji arrived at the same time I did, so RL took precedence.
