Er, whats with all the screaming?

Did they have topless girls dancing around or something. :)

It doesnt look like it has much weight, sort of like a fps but with a cockpit background instead of a gun.

lol! that did cross my mind,

Technical problems aside, SC looks really interesting and can't wait to get my hands on the dogfight module. It's a childhood dream come true. I don't see it as a competitor with Elite because both games are so different in style and I feel that they have different emphasis etc.. I'm sure both games will be good.

There's only 2000 beta keys left in SC so if you are interested in early access you might want to hurry up.

Realistic doesn't mean it doesn't have arcade feel.
I blame it mostly on the excessive head movement, the same thing that plagues ED to some extent, also being forced to use a high FOV in ED just to see my instruments and the cockpit shake also doesn't help.

I personally didn't have problems with SC head movement - it just stops so suddenly and doesn't feel that it translates in any shape or form.

However, arcade feel was given by combat itself - guns, gun effects, etc.

Chris Roberts is also a great storyteller. Wing Commander 4 had one of the best narratives in a computer game to this date ..

Fully agreed there. WCIV is sadly overlooked and this is where CR qualities shine. His sense in game play feels very alien to me, but WCIV story was very very nicely done.

It looks like their isnt going to be very much difference between the too.

Maybe Elite is more old school and SC is more casual this gen gamer, I'm just guessing.

I think SC is going to be more storyline, and elite is more do what you like.

Both games will be a welcome edition to my collection, I'm just wondering if FD arent getting the copyright police to investigate :)

true, but with any story it comes to an end. can SC be deep enough to allow players to create their own story, Squadred 42 is the single player element of the game while Star Citizen is the open world, I don't know if its true but I read that SC changed from having a hundred star systems to being like elite with a generated galaxy.

It has great potential and will be a fantastic game, you don't have to fear anything though, just support both and play borh.

Difference is huge - in scale. SC at this point will be rooms connected by auto traveling system between POIs. ED will use supercruise, which won't be automatic at all. SC systems are small, within 1AU, ED systems are 1:1 with real Milky Way galaxy.

As a new ED Backer just jumping in: what did you fear OP?
That Star Citizen could be better than what you hope ED will be? :D

Now that I have backed both (and finally did with ED because PAX reminded me of it) I'm eager to see both gameplays even tho I love the space atmosphere and think SC will give me a better experience simply because of better looks.

Also I may be one that likes SC's cockpits more than ED's but I think some ppl of both sides should remember to embrace the years to come full of space sims instead of battling against their second favorite :)

They haven't changed that. They have put stretch goal for R&D team of doing some of "future iterations of SC" in PG.

Hundred star systems still will be there for first version of the game.

I'm kind of happy that Star Citizen isn't going for procedural generation, while at the same time I'm really happy that Elite IS going for procedural generation. Both fits its own style.

looking at the files in the launcher
C:\Users\d\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000\Win32\Shared\StellarForge\Galaxies\MilkyWay\StarSystems

there would appear to be a lot more than a hundred objects just for the Alpha. how that translates into star systems can only be shown in Alpha 4.

He's talking about SC's initial galaxy of 115+ star systems. I think the PG is for seamless transitions to planets, etc.

Sure, but I was referring to SC, not to ED - CIG only plans to invest in R&D for PG here, and first iteration of SC will have only a little bit more than hundred systems.

*insert standard comment about looking forward to seeing and playing both games in their finished state*

That's said for me the biggest difference between ED and SC is the community! It might just be the reserved, understated British way of doing things but if the ED community acted the way the SC one comes over I would have quietly walked away a long time ago. Just compare maturity of Lave radio / Lave con / The Baftas to what we saw in the DFM reveal event. Two very different worlds.

Same goes for FD's lack of marketing. Don't start hyping it until you have something amazing and polished to show off! First impressions and that are so important.

I'm actually please SC existed in parallel to ED because it split the space sim community into different cultural camps (both good in their own right) but I know which I would rather be in. Had there been no SC, ED may have had both camps trying to get Elite made to their preferred style of play and asphetic. Now DB would probably have just done his own thing, but it's certainly made the forums more bearable.

So thank to FD, the Lave Radio guys and this forum community for being so mature about ED, after all, it's only a game not a cult!
